  • In this video I am reacting to one of the most prominent figures in the metal drumming community, George Kollias. George is most famous for his incredible drumming in the band, Nile. It is my hope that this can be a recurring segment where each week we take a look at incredibly fast drummers that are cornerstones in their respective fields.

    George is an Amazing and innovative drummer. Nile is one of the all time Great Death Metal bands.. He is just so calm and chill behind the kit... After watching George, it has brought the drummer David Diepold to mind. Obscura fulltime member as of 2020.. He is another drummer that has a top notch composer behind the kit Very relaxed..

    When I lived in Greenville, South Carolina (early 2000's), the band I was in rented rehearsal space at the same facility that Nile was using. I can't recall the name, but they had climate controlled storage units of differing sizes and kinda catered to bands (8pm to 8am were the hours when noise was not a concern). The band I was in would normally start practice at 9:30-10:00 and continue to 2-ish. I'd often stay later, by myself, to work on parts at my leisure. One evening whilst my bandmates and I were standing outside taking a quick breather, we saw a line of nice(r) vehicles roll through the gate (of course) pique-ing our interest. One of us noticed several Nile stickers adorning a few of the vehicles which left little doubt as to who it was that had arrived. The 4 of us eased over as they were unloading and quickly made their acquaintances. We didn't fanboy out or act crazy, just said "hi, dig your music, stay heavy"...that kinda thing. But you have to remember, this is George Kollias here...so I inquired as to whether, or not, I might sit in on a song or two...you know? To observe the master from close range. My request was unceremoniously denied (there were no hard feelings, I completely understood), so I stood outside the door and listened for a bit before returning to my own matters. Even though I'm not especially into that type of extreme metal, George Kollias has always been a drumming icon in my eyes 🤘

      Dude, this is one hell of a story! The fact that you even were there in the first place with them is a rare moment for sure. Thanks so much for sharing this. And now you have piqued my interest into what other stories you may have. Oh and I have family in Aiken and Beech Island South Carolina, so I am definitely in SC often.

    George has always been one of my favorite metal drummers. His single strokes on the kick drum are absolutely bonkers. He also makes things look effortless even at insanely high speeds and changes. Might be typical cause of their popularity now, but I'd love you to do Austin archey from lorna shore on your next one. Gotta go with my nj boys!

    • @DrumlionMusic
      @DrumlionMusic  2 года назад +1

      I remember early on when I first started listening to metal, George Kollias and Derek Roddy were two guys that I absolutely looked up to in the extreme genre. And I hear you on Archey. I already silently had an episode in mind for him. Ideally I want to look out for live drum performances because Century Media Records is pretty aggressive about using their material in terms of copyright. Even my Lorna Shore Cursed to Die reaction, and Austin playthrough of King Ov Deception got partially blocked.

      @builtonstruggle1 2 года назад

      @@DrumlionMusic dude derek Roddy is insane too. One of my early metal influences on drums when I really got serious. He's nuts. Damn though yeah this copyright bs has to stop. Like I love watching reactions and commentary on my favorite bands, but stuff gets blocked sometimes and it blows. Well whatever drummer you do next I'm sure it will be a fire video

      @@builtonstruggle1 yeah sadly music is tough to have a channel to make any type of revenue off of. I think ive made like 30 bucks so far on my channel to put it into perspective. Fortunately out of the numerous copyright claims ive gotten i haven't received a STRIKE, which 3 of those will get your channel deleted. I figured as long as i do content that people will want to see ill forsake any chance to make any kind of money here. I tried to push my original drumming compositions but those don't gain much traction without HEAVY promo because my channel is so small. I love drumming but im just not in a position to do it for a living. Its one hell of a feedback loop lol.

      @builtonstruggle1 2 года назад

      @@DrumlionMusic damn. Well I do hope your channel grows because I love your content. I'm glad you haven't gotten any strikes at least. I mean if you do original content I'll definitely watch.
