Sarasota Police Underwater Search & Recovery Diver Tryouts

Recently, the #SarasotaPolice Department Underwater Search & Recovery Team held tryouts for new divers. Officer Jessica Sullivan tried out and successfully made the team!
The Underwater Search & Recovery Team is critical to evidence recovery and victim recovery. Anything that happens in or under the water, the team is called out to due to their expertise in the field.
Tryouts are important because public safety diving is completely different than recreational diving. Officers on the team are often asked to do tasks underwater including diving at night as well as diving in inclement weather, contaminated water and confined environments.
For the tryouts, Officer Sullivan completed an underwater obstacle course, with a blacked out mask, so she could get the feel of what it's like to dive in dark or murky water. She also completed a swim test and a bridge jump successfully!
