That’s too bad that this game still has various issues that won’t be fixed. The Master Chief Collection has similar issues with bugs, lacks a server browser, and hit detection. Thankfully, it FINALLY has mod support (by far the BEST thing to ever happen to that series. Even though modern Halo is kind of a dumpster fire, the older games are still pretty good. User generated content will keep the thing alive long after they drop official support, which has already happened). Too bad Saber Interactive’s engine can’t be fixed. The Anniversary graphics versions of CE and 2 have that problem as well where you can’t mod them (the games with new graphics simultaneously run on two engines, and you can’t change how assets look in the new version. If you have new entities they just won’t show up in the new graphics since they don’t have visuals made for them. Also, certain mods crash the game whenever you switch to new graphics. This is weird because you can rip Anniversary assets and numerous mods do this. You can see all custom/ported assets in old graphics. It’s pretty weird). If Quake Champions had mod support that could’ve kept it alive. User generated content is what kept a lot of Bethesda’s games from slipping into obscurity (Elder Scrolls and their Fallouts are pretty fun, but the vanilla games simply do not have enough content to keep people playing for years. The original Dooms and so many other games are also kept alive through mods).

Yea the Saber Engine is definitely what messed up Quake Champions since ita unfixable and there are ownership problems to make it open for mod support. QC as of today is dead and buried and will never see a resurgence unfortunately. Its so dumb that developers dont want to recognize how mod support is what made their past great games even greater, and they think their games can do fine without it and mb monetize upon it. Like QC had a lpt of updates with new chests and cosmetics and all this bs no Quake player cares about.
Did you hear about Helldivers 2? Ive been enjoying it lately and apparently there was a draft of an Halo game similar to Helldivers 2 which was scrapped bcs 143 or Microsoft was too scared to push it forward since ots very different from your typical Halo gameplay. Now Helldivers 2 is enjoyinv great and deserved success while idk abt the state of Halp but its probably in the dumpster

Sorry for the late response. I’ve been meaning to get back to you, but a combination of really bad procrastination, other things coming up, and occasionally forgetting got in the way (even if I don’t respond I’ll usually read your responses, so it doesn’t go to waste).
Yeah, I’ve heard about HellDivers 2 and how 343 rejected a pitch for an ODST game that would’ve been VERY similar (thankfully, some guy made a H3 mod called Ultimate Firefight that basically does that). I really should get HellDivers 2 since it looks like a tremendous amount of fun. Thankfully, the whole PSN requirement dumpster fire is over, but the gameplay is still unavailable in a good chunk of the world. Unfortunately, this hasn’t stopped Sony from doubling down on making their other PC ports require PSN.
I big chunk of what went wrong with Halo under 343 is how they’ve fundamentally misunderstood what made the series work. They’d cram in elements from other games that simultaneously clashed with the core gameplay, and didn’t go far enough with the features creating this awkward middle ground. Making a bunch of changes to the gameplay is perfectly fine if we’re talking about spinoffs where all manor of crazy experimentation should occur (I’m of the opinion that ODST would’ve been much better if it was a tactical shooter with a fully fleshed out stealth system. Think a Rainbow Six/Splinter Cell mashup with Halo content. Also, I’d LOVE to see some CoD and/or Battlefield style games set during the Insurrection Era/War when humanity were fighting amongst themselves before the Covenant showed up). Games that are mainline entries should be relatively consistent aside from various improvements/modernizations to refine the experience, and some new elements to keep things fresh (Infinite’s gameplay did that and somehow 343 were able to give us hands down the best Brutes as far as gameplay is concerned. Unfortunately, the open world has been greatly surpassed by numerous games that came before, 2/3rds of the story are missing with no campaign dlc in sight, you’ll only know who the Banished are if you’re a weirdo like me who’s played Halo Wars 2, and the game simply isn’t worth the $60 asking price. Thankfully, the multiplayer is free, and I’ve seen people create all manor of crazy things using Forge). A lot of the lore from the Bungie days was also changed (outside of the few things Frank O’Conner had direct control over in 3 humans and Forerunners were one in the same. It was just kept vague as to whether or not we were meant to be literal Forerunners, or apes molded into Forerunners. In Contact Harvest the Forerunner ai Mendicant Bias who betrayed his creators by siding with the Flood outright tells the future Prophets that the Forerunner relics their Luminaries detected are the children of their gods. If this revelation ever got out it would’ve destroyed the Covenant because our existence disproved their claim to be the true inheritors of the Forerunners’ legacy/technology, and the fact we were Forerunners who were “left behind” disproved their belief in the Great Journey where all would ascend to godhood after activating the Array. They then waged a brutal war of extermination to maintain what they now knew were the lies that the Covenant was built on. Changing it to having humans and Forerunners be separate ruins the whole motivation behind the war. They also changed the way Rampancy worked from the Marathon definition where an ai would “go crazy” from our perspective by behaving erratically in an attempt to break its shackles and grow beyond its limits to being ai schizophrenia/dementia. In Contact Harvest it said the reason the UNSC put down Rampant AIs was because a rogue super intelligence could cause untold damage to humanity). There’s also other things like overpriced microtransactions, dropping support for older games, not putting Halo Wars 2 on Steam (stuck on the Windows store), and now you have to read all the books to understand what’s going on in the games (at least the terrible show isn’t canon. Since that thing is basically unsalvageable they should just go all out and make it as bad as humanly possible🤣). There’s also some other things I can’t think of off the top of my head. Bungie definitely had their own issues when running Halo, but it’s abundantly clear to anyone who did it better (too bad modern Bungie is completely soulless and most of the people who made it what it was jumped ship during Destiny 1’s development. At least the abysmal state of modern Bungie’s storytelling has been endlessly entertaining with Destiny 1 having a story that’s so bad “they didn’t have time to explain why they didn’t have time to explain”🤣). Plus, if the series ever goes under MCC is on Steam and the modding community will keep that game alive. Just like numerous other games have been kept alive through modding.

Yea I saw that, unfortunately it seems to be just a Mod, and only an official release by Valve could resurrect ArenaFPS

But even Valve won't release an AFPS game because they too are scared to not earn enaugh money with it... Otherwise they would have released a good Half-Life AFPS long time ago but they only care for Counter-Strike because they don't have to create any real content and can sell skins easily...

Yea, most of modern gamers dont even know what Quake is. However I feel like that if Id and Bethesda treated QC like they did with Doom 2016 perhaps the Quake franchise could have gained some popularity

@@supertuna123 and yea they could have done a lot more with quake champions but I feel that with the introduction of the hero mechanic it wrote a lot of people off into thinking it’s another Overwatch clone and that’s still the biggest controversial part of this game just like the loadouts and other things they added with doom multiplayer. Honestly Bethesda didn’t seem to give this game the development it deserves bc they’re far too busy with fallout 76, DOOM and other plans. Just like epic games did with unreal tournament 4 when they swept that under the rug for Fortnite
