So the Washington Metro 7000 series have cars that should have drivers cab, but the driver's cab was removed because it was deemed unnecessary, so in my opinion the Washington Metro might have plans for driverless rapid transit PS: ¡¡the WMATA 7000 series sure are blabbermouths!!
Pointless to have prerecorded announcements for line, direction, and next when the whole "doors opening" spiel comes before it. Would make sense if they just did it like the R142s.
This comment didnt age well. The 7000 announcements are far superior to the previous rolling stock because they clearly enunciate the next stop unlike the train operators who say the next stop so quickly and in the most monotone voice i have ever heard.
*DINGDONG* Doors Opening. This is a Silver Line Train to Ashburn. When boarding, move toward the center of the car. The Next Station is Washington Dulles International Airport. *DINGDONG* Step back. Doors closing.
There's only one set (7000-7007) on WMATA property right now. They've been "burn testing" this set between Twinbrook and Shady Grove the last few days. I saw it idling at Shady Grove on Monday afternoon.
Twinbrook, definately! I like how at 0:32, a customer tries to enter the new car, but is prevented by some crowd control net! Oh no, poor guy! They have a beautiful new vehicle, but guess what? You're not invited. That's so inefficient and dystopian!
Josh Edgar The Red Line has been fully upgraded for ATO. Tests with passengers supposedly started months ago during non-peak times. I think they had mentioned ATO would become the standard on the RL by March, but as far as I know, no updates have been made public on that.
SuperWorldFan7000 Do you recall the length of the train? Since I posted this comment, Metro did announce that ATO was restored in revenue operation on RL, but ONLY for 8-car trains. 6-car trains remain in manual full-time. Of course, 8-car trains may still be run in manual for one reason or another.
Very nice catch =) Can't wait for these to enter service XD
Shout me out or youre gay
I really wish these things could be rolled out faster, so many other trains are breaking down in the middle of service

Why can't they open the doora on the opposite side when testing, just like nyc, they test their train doors by opening the doors on the opposite side
because they are testing how the train operates on the live line
The guy thought the he could go on but he can't

Sus
R they going to replace any rail cars for the WMATA Fleet?
The 1000 series will be replaced.
robbieraeful 1000 and 4000 Series are being replaced by these.
Khemistry And the 5000 series.
When the 8000 series comes the 2 and 3000 series will retired
I don't like them.
Mr.Jay-Morris That's what people say about the R160. That didn't stop the cars from being placed on the rails.
sonicboy678 but R160 are cancerous
AnkleBrEaker GOD You think replacing old beat up cars with newer more reliable and technologically advanced cars is cancerous?
@@TheRailLeaguerWell, sometimes.
@@mrcalc-xc5ke How?
It sounds like Singapore's Kawasaki C151 in operation
Nice. Do you know when they will run the next one?

It could've been a woman though.

Metro Brutalism Admiration It's not any vehicle- a train...THE 7000 SERIES!
Stephanie Dickey Okay, this is epic.
Lol step back !
I bin on there
So what exactly do they test on the test train? 🤔🤔🤔
Traction equipment performance, weight limit, electricals, speed limit, etc.
@@NSE465 I See. Thanks.

This train must be in automatic train operation since the train started immediately once the doors closed.
Good catch! I know WMATA is testing bringing that back once they repair some wayside equipment, so maybe they're killing two tests with one train.

Kevin M Combes I was on the Red line today, and it was still Manual Train Operation.
