This is one of Vivaldi best wind concertos,surely at the level of the celebrated and delightful 6 flute concertos op.10.
This performance by Brüggen and Harnoncourt is in my opinion still unsurpassed. I never heard such a perfect balance between rhythmic precision and freedom ...it's just magic!!!

This is clearly better than later performances that seem to have the recorder competing with the strings for dominance. Here there is such harmony with each instrument blending seamlessly into this remarkable Vivaldi masterpiece. Like the voice of heaven.
These are the true pioneers of the Early Music movement (Bruggen and Harnoncourt).
They not only performed on period instruments but also studied the early aesthetics of the baroque style.

I'm so glad that the late Frans got to work with Harnoncourt back in the day when Nikolaus was just about the best Barock Musik Person on our whole planet! I asked my mom to buy me a copy of this record instead of the STOOOPYD Fourth of July fireworks she was proposing one equally STOOOPYD year. Thank goodness she could understand why Frans and Nikolau mattered, while repetitive and monotonous holiday entertainments did not.

Wunderschöne und detaillierte Interpretation dieses perfekt komponierten Konzers mit mildem und gut phrasiertem Ton der unvergleichlichen Soloblockflöte sowie gut harmonisierten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Originalinstrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt lyrisch. Der ebenso unvergleichliche Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Kammerorchester im gut betrachteten Tempo und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wunderbar!
Makellose Technik, herrlicher Flötenton, wundervolle Verzierungen im Mittelsatz!!! Heute hört man öfter als "große Blockflötensolisten" bezeichnete Musiker, die schnelle Passagen unsauber spielen und ihre Fehler durch "Willkürliche Veränderungen" zu kaschieren versuchen!!!

Als je soms even denkt dat Brüggen wat gedateerd kan zijn als blokfluitist en je hoort deze opname dan weet je dat er mss nog nooit iemand beter is geweest tot nu toe, hoezeer ook de huidige school uitblinkt in absoluut fabuleuze techniek... Maar luister naar zijn articulatie❤

Tout la virtuosité et la musicalité de Franz Bruggen dans ce concerto.Pour l'époque c'était la révélation des possibilités de cet instrument sous estimé.Combien de jeunes virtuoses ont su depuis , au travers les transcriptions de JS Bach par exemple , développer une vrai tradition de qualité et d'exemplarité.
La facture y est aussi pour quelque chose , garantissant une parfaite justesse au sein des ensembles.
