I used to do nothing with a lot of beats that I made on MPC Live 2 but my new routine is to make beats on FL and upload practically everything to SoundCloud. I figure: someone might like it even if I don't like it much.
I have been watching your videos for 2 years now, even signed up for better beat maker. I appreciate your content Navie. I learned more from you than any other channel or class. You never claim to have "secret" answers or step by step formulas for "success". Just solid advice and thought processes for anyone committed to honing this craft of ours. I finally feel confident as a beat maker but still find myself taking something away from every video you drop. About to cook up using that beat restriction list rn
Great advice! I'd also say breaking out of your genre will help you understand your DAW more. I never really listen to House music, but I've learned a ton just by watching house music producers do their thing.
Before I get too far into your video, I just wanna say, I've come up with my own set of tricks within my own methodology. Latest one to date is automating 2 different EQs on the master bus. One kicks in during the Intro and Verses and then another one during the Hooks. Makes my beats SLAP so much harder. An older trick I came up with is that I use as many stock plugins as possible. I don't have the best PC, so that's one reason, but also, I utilize sound design tricks and simple FX (eq, comp, chorus, verb and delay) to turn patches in stock instruments into better sounding instruments. I'm finally getting confident enough to start working with artists. This comes after practicing improperly for 5 solid years, not knowing anything about mixing or sequencing/arrangement (sound not balanced right, sections too long and/or repetitive, etc). I've been practicing for a year and a half utilizing my new found methodologies, and I've improved way more than I did in those five years. Just wanted to share what has worked for me LOL.
thanks for these tips.Everything you touch just sounds so good. Also I just found my Navie D Alien Kit from a few years ago, so I'm using those in this week's beat.
please PLEASE make some advanced low end tutorial about "huge sounding" kick & bass like D'Angelo or Large Professor, for example "The Line" by D'Angelo or "Represent" by Nas. we love you navie!
I believe it has more to do than patterns! When I finish a beat, I always feel like there is something off balance, but that’s just me either the low frequencies are too muddy or the high frequencies has too much scratch. How could I practice that correctly?
First step stop thinking your beats suck.some one out there will feel them second step stop copying people be original therd step learn the equipment you have inside out.
Btw, while I understand "beats" is some "modern" word for making music, it's really quite misleading as a term, because "beats" usually means drums, when we really should call it "song production" instead of "beats" which sounds like a lazy way to say "producing music". Sorry, over the last few videos I've seen from many other channels, the word "beats" is starting to get on my nerves as I see it's starting to confuse new music composers/song writers because of how the terminology is used. :P You may want to consider rewording titles of videos to clarify if there is a difference between making "beats" and making "songs" and defining if they are the same or not. Something to think about explaining some time soon. :)
This man inspired me to inhale and exhale
I saved your life
And I'll thank you by making good music.
My beats suck? ah man :( Sad times!
I still think you're a pretty cool dude
@@NavieD Thank you, And I you
The sheer amount of beats I've discarded by deciding to stick to general rules and guidelines rather than practice/experimenting is astounding

The Kanye west stop sign method and beat tutorials helped me become a better producer
what would it be stop sign method?

Very good advice, I recommend everyone to try out some different genres! If you like trap beats, why not try out a Boom Bap beat or and EDM beat
I learned so much from when I had to do that video game soundtrack and make dance music

Your videos are always great man.... so true as far as breaking away from ones norm. when I occasionally do so the outcome is satisfying.

Sound diversity is great advice! Sometimes I open FL Studio and click a random sound, then just try to build off of that to find good complements.
Yo! Thanks for the shout out and the support of my drum packs man. I'm honored
Man, I haven't been around in a bit. Your plant has grown is much!!

dude this video is GUD !
Not a big fan of the AI art but your tutorials are still goated. It's not even a moral thing or whatever I just think they look bad lol
Same dude, I HATE when artists put AI "art" as thier album cover, It looks so soulless and dumb
Somehow I always follow few of these. It's like my inside knowledge just told me to do that.
The link in the description gives the old checklist on download, not the restriction list.
why are you a better producer than 99& of the super famous ones
I started with the melody cuz I’m one of those aliens that start with drums 89% of the time. Thx bro
Guess we aliens together 🙏
NAVIE DO A VIDEO ON THE PEGGY ALBUM AND MY LIFE IS YOURS🙏🙏🙏🙏
Maybe it's just me, but when I use your link I get "the beat design checklist" and not this restriction list 😢

No
Im a music producer and beatmaker, and no, we dont really care what its called. Its "type beat" not "type of musical production"
@@prodsxmmit well you should because it's incorrect and bad lazy confusing English on top of that.
