Shorter then 2 but actually longer then 1 by a couple hours or so (pretty close though, 1 takes me around 12 hours each new playthough but that might be becasue I know where to get everything in the game as I have played it like 12 time across 3 console platforms). If you are a completionist/achievement hunter then I bet 3 would be much shorter though as the achievements are no where near as hard as some on 1 and 2... or if you plow through the game without searching every most side areas it would be much shorter as well (if you only follow the compass and never explore).
I too finished it recently and liked it (playing again now as I played the first time on easy mode to get the story and get used to the new counter system as well as know which sockets and upgrades to do on my more serious playthrough). Really good considering it was made on a very tight budget by a very small team. Also the neat thing is if you pay close attention it follows 1's story beat almost note for note (like falling to Earth with a Watcher, getting traversal power from a new key figure in the lore (Samael/Hollow Lord), meeting Ulthane, fighting on broken overpasses, getting to the next area by dropping a piece stone through the floor of a cathedral, and so on). All in all I am impressed and happy for this addition... and it seems sales are good enough to warrant another already if what the CEO said about the budget is true (they budgeted it to only need to sell 100,000 copies... for comparison old THQ budgeted and expected 4 million sales from Darksiders 2).

STRONGLY disagree about the lack of a map. I think it hinders exploration. I'm working on my third playthrough and because I have no map I still am unsure if I have seen everything. Also I would have liked a manual save option. Mostly so I could have saved prior to entering the final rift to face Pride... but... thats a quibble.

Darksiders III took a while to grow on me, but after a while I got in love with the combat. The dodging feels so SATISFYING, especialy with the added slow motion to signal you got it right. And similar to Bayonetta, it's also very rewarding, while the later rewards youy with a slow-motion moment where even large bosses are vulnerable to Crowd Control (using the Whip in Bayonetta II in Witch Time is completely bonkers) Darksiders III rewards the dodge with the ultimate "FUCK OFF!" attack possible in any weapon you're using. I only though the size, map and level design was a bit lackluster since DS I and II had places we could trully call DUNGEONS, with all the puzzles to solve, with DSIII being scarce, although the Void DLC was where the devs heard these criticism and gave us a really fun, long-run dungeon to unlock throughout the game, burn our braincells on the puzzles and keep us on our toes with challenging bossfights that perfectly blend all 3 games's styles.
Also, I got this game on Switch back in 2020 and it's a PERFECT port!

A late comment reply, but i have seen you around on a lot of Darksiders videos like Whitelight's three-hour analysis or MayorHairBear's great review series, and as a random stranger on the internet and fellow Darksiders fan, it's heartening to see people be so positive about 3.
I don't know what i would think of it myself yet, as i haven't played it, but Darksiders 3 thus far seems the most divisive out of all the Darksiders games. The entire series as a whole appears to be divisive between titles, with people loving, disliking or being in-between between *any* of the entries.
Another person i keep coming across on Darksiders videos is a user by name of Hynotama. He articulates himself well on why he loves Darksiders 2 most of all, but seems to have a *vehement* hatred for Darksiders 3, with some well-argumented points, but sometimes with the way he expresses himself about DS3... i think it seems he ironically has most in common with Fury out of all the Horsemen in how he lashes out at the game and puts DS2 on a pedestal.
You are quite the opposite of his case. Like i said, i know how contentious Darksiders 3 is and there's stuff in that game i do not agree with or think could have been done better. Even more so after learning about Fury's original depiction in the comics.
But on the other hand, seeing people speaking fondly of Darksiders 3, and it for some others being their entry into the series, even if others might disagree (but hopefully in a sober, respectful manner) is a thing that brings a smile to one's face to witness.

One game’s combat that I like the most was castlevania lord of shadows. I really like how combo heavy it was and you had to make sure that you don’t get hit and also how important your magic abilities. I my opinion castlevania lord of shadows combat was one of the best I’ve played. But this game did a very good job with its and the whole doge counter was pretty well done.

Loved the first game, second game kinda lost me with the loot system. For me having 1 weapon known is kinda badass, the chaoseater, armagedon blade and such. Death not having a signature weapon is kind of wierd for me, the whole Deaths schyte thing, while you can find a random ass schyte in a chest or a mob drop and they are better than what you had. Do not like that, much prefer the way first and third game handle the loot system. Also War is by far my favorite of the 4. His voice acting, story and progression are amazing. Problem I had with second game is no matter what difficulity you play as you do not feel op. War has 10 health bars late game. YOU FEEL OP AS SHIT. Now death has amazing monemts in cuts scenes as well. But I just prefer War.

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 Год назад +2

Random person on the internet here, but that's surprising to read in regards to not feeling overpowered as Death. It's the first time i've ever come across that-- most people around say that the Possessed Weapon system in Darksiders 2 can trivialize enemy encounters thanks to the customizability in said Possessed weapons.
For example, if you can create a Possessed Weapon with a high Crit chance, as well as some sort of Elemental Effect (Fire, Lightning, Frost, Freeze) or Wrath or Health regeneration/steal, then you can:
      1. Quite often hit quite hard thanks to the high Crit chance
      2. Utilize Wrath abilities like the Teleport Slash often, or just tank hits, without needing to resort to potions.
The second option works well with armor that offers resistance against some sort of hitstun from enemies, too.
It can be said that making a proper equipment build is half of what makes the combat system in Darksiders 2, since normal equipment has passive effects that may lend itself well to different builds depending on the player's preference
I do get what you mean with finding it strange that Death does not really have a weapon to call his own as such, though.
I think that can be explained by the fact that he is not on a Council-approved mission and thus is denied his full power-- including his actual scythe(s) and thus has to make do with other weapons.
In a Darksiders comic, this was a plot point for a mission to earth where the mission *was* approved by the Council, but Death wasn't allowed to use Harvester. So he had to barter with Vulgrim for a replacement weapon.
From what i know of the lore, Harvester's true form does appear in DS2, but only when Death accesses his Reaper Form . He's not allowed his full power, like i said earlier, so he can only maintain that form for a short while.
On the other hand, it could be argued that all the secondary weapons are a way to show Death's skill and proficiency with weapons, as both a Nephilim and Horseman.
The Nephilim have history of naught but warfare and conflict. But arrogant and flashy as they sometimes may be, and even have fun in what they do, i don't think the Horsemen would look a gift Ruin in the mouth, and thus gladly get tools that help them in their goal.
In any case, i'm glad to see a Darksiders (and specifically War) fan and one with unique feedback like this.
Apologies if this long comment was annoying, but if you took the time to read through it all and consider it-- thank you for doing so.
Wish you a good rest of your day/week, and take care.

@@jurtheorc8117 i read the entire comment and it's bot as long to read as it must have been to write. Here is the deal. You may notice my comment wqs posted a month ago. And after that i had tine to revisit ds2 and i change my mind a bit. For example Last time i beat ds2 was 2013 or 14. And back then i barely knew English and how the game works. I had other times i revisited it but never gotten to late game content. My opinion is altered but not changed possesd weapons are quite unique. But this does not change my opinion that in comics death has wars sword literally Peirce his chest. And he cuts his arm off(the reason why war has a prosthetic instead of his left arm) and in moments heals completely. We do not get to feel that op in game.

@@Strahinja_Djordjevic Oh wow, that was a fast reply! Thank you for taking the time to be reading and writing a reply to the comment.
Those are all fair points. Extra context on things can go very far in clearing up things, so thank you for that.
Does sound like your opinion has shifted towards a positive direction, so that does make me glad. Fair point too in regards to absolutely tanking being stabbed by Chaoseater.
I haven't experimented with it yet, but i think with a high Resistance stat you can perform combos without being interrupted or put into hitstun while being hit. That is as close as i can imagine to acquiring that feeling of just not giving a crud to whatever hits you.
To a lesser extent, Buckler type secondary weapons may be of aid in this. Their unique charge attack is Death blocking like War does (bucklers are the only way to actually block in the entire game). But if you pull up the Buckler *right* as an enemy is about to hit you, and you immediately press the Secondary Attack button, Death returns either a large portion of the total amount of the damage that would have been dealt.
It's cool how the secondary weapons have some unique stuff like that!
Oh, and aforementioned Possessed Weapons can also help in healing immediately. Achidna's Fangs are great for that, if i recall correctly.
In any case, seeing what effect a Resistance and Healing-based leads to would be an experiment for me to have a look at.
And as it is now, preferences differ and as such, you don't have to do anything else with this information.
But i am grateful that you so quickly took the time to reply, explain and give further context! I hope that future Darksiders ventures may be more fun again for you and many others.

Each Darksiders game is decent to great, but they have progressively got worse.
They ruined the combat in 3, its far to dodge heavy, and to take way too much damage. The new navigation system(or lack of) is terrible, it actually discourages me to explore.
It looks like a Darksiders game, but 3 doesn't feel like a Darksiders game. It feels like a dumbed down dark souls with a Darksiders skin.
IMO the 1st game is the best, and most memorable. Before 3 came out I replayed 1 and 2 and realised I had forgot so much about 2, and remembered so much about 1. And I can't see 3 being all the memorable, well in a positive way at least.

I guess that can be kind of a drawback for a franchise that does something different for each game. well the executions are in the game, but instead of pressing a button when the enemy is low on health, you just need to have their health on Zero. We still have a cinematic, badass and gruesome way Fury delivers the final blow. If they had REALLY removed executions, the bosses would just keel over and die on the last blow. But I did miss the small monsters having a small chance of allowing you to insta-kill them.

  • @Brentor14

    I like them all but it’s 1,2,3
First has the best story combat was great and fun and it had solid visuals that hold up I really liked the heavy GoW Zelda inspiration super fun gameplay and I just connect with War as a character I feel like he actually care about his quest t
Two had the best world but horrible pacing and I feel like they kinda lost focus land of the dead dragged on way too long where as twilight cathedral and shadows edge were over super quick and you do so much other shit and you have to remind yourself that oh ya Death actually has a main quest and that’s to help clear War but when he’s talking about it all he seems very bleh about it all
and idk about the loot stuff I prefer the old get weapons from bosses or dungeons collect souls buy moves and power up weapons like DMC or GoW and it felt very MMOish rather than hack n slash action adventure, and the micro transactions and DLC is bullshit
Don’t get me wrong tho still great visuals and combat is still awesome and I really respect some of the things they tried to do but it just didn’t have that same spark as the first
The Third I’m not gonna shit on much I looks beautiful if a little generic combats fun I like the difficulty bump story is shallow but enjoyable enough I like how aspects of 1&2 come together alil in it I’m honestly just happy to get a third one Fury gets some good characters development too I didn’t like her much to start but as she’s grew into her own I started coming around with her
I could literally talk about these games forever I think they’re great but I’m not sold on Strife character design looks dope but the fact that his weapons are guns and we’ve used them in 1&2 idk they just do chip damage it’s going to be interesting to see what they do with him

just started playing. about 20 mins into the game and i felt like something was off.
from your video i now understand. 1 was awesome. 2 added even more. open world elements, loot and level system. and now 3 is "we almost had nothing to give you so take what we have". no levels or loot or stats or open world. hell not even a map. it hardly plays like a darksiders game. you can hide it under the smoke of "it plays different because of this horseman" all you like. the sad truth is we have been handed a game that is 40% complete or made by lazy men and women looking for a payday. hell they even got rid of the horse.
so again either way, someone said "fuck the horse" or someone said "no time for the horse, ditch it".

Hey look MassiveG made this video in such a way that DarkSiders 3 seems la and awesome triple AAA title .... oh & guess what"?" it really is but somehow made with a limited budget & dedication and love for the franchise, 60% percent of the reviewers out there are extremely wrong about this game & i'm telling you MassiveG & a few others i found on youtube tell the truth & after investing 17 hours in this game i can concur with everything that is said in this video & that the game is truly great in deepest meaning of the word + 3 endings & you chose the order that you kill the SINS therefore the gameplay will be different each time you play ! P.S. @AaronTheSlayer, even the new God of War borrowed ideas from DarkSouls but nobody mentioned that as complaint & it worked for GoW & it works for Darksiders 3 & don't worry by only taking inspiration the game became its own animal. & 2nd P.S. everybody complains about the compass in this game & no map well that's for the good because the enviroments are memorable the compass works as an breadcrumb trail or a rope that guides you from corner to corner, but then again i guess the "PROFFESIONAL REVIEWERS" need an MIT DIPLOMA to figure that out & the most laughable thing i heard from one reviewer is that THE GRAPHICS ARE NOT REALISTIC ... oh really, realistic graphics in a DARKSIDERS GAME, that guy should EAT A ROTTEN APPLE ALONE ON MOUNT EVEREST! ... Getting to play Darksider 3 for the first time and honestly, not a fan of the gameplay, I don't know if the Switch version has all of the updates that have been released for PC but the dodging SUCKS!!! I don't mind games which rely on dodging mechanics I love Platinum games like Bayonetta and Transformers Devastation where you heavily rely on dodge, but this game the dodging either doesn't trigger or it dodges INTO attacks or doesn't avoid anything at all...
Whip traversal even if the Icon is there doesn't trigger and instead Fury air combos into the ground (assuming there is a floor).
My biggest personal grip is the lack of a mini-map, I find myself CONSTANTLY getting lost and having no clue where to go or what to do.
"I defeated Sloth and Avarice! Now what? Oh what I have to do is go back to the beginning of the game and find hidden paths? Oh how nice to even hint that! Oh wait... YOU DIDN'T!!!!"
I constantly find myself having to look up guides on where to go or what to do!
The only times I needed any guides for ANY of the other Darksiders games it was to find Collectibles such as Abyssal Armor, some Legendary Weapons, Wicked K, etc

    • @serathaevistille995
      @serathaevistille995 2 года назад

I don't know if you figured this out. But the dodging feels a lot better if you switch the combat style to, 'Classic'. Which allows you to dodge mid-attack. If you have it on default, Fury won't dodge until she finishes an attack animation.
