DEMOLISHED - I just (end nov ‘22) visited La Mer, stayed in the ROVE hotel you see at about 26:00. It was lovely to walk each evening to LaMer Central and LaMer North. But everything between central and south (Rove hotel) has now been demolished! Basically everything you see from 19:00 till 28:00. Kaftan, Zazou, Cath22, the boardwalk, the water, its all gone! An enormous destruction of capital. Only the building of Masti was still standing, but between the rubble not operational.
A guard from the Rove hotel told me that this stretch of LaMer was not very well visited, so it has been decided that the area will be transformed into a ‘club’ . “Only in Dubai they would destroy beautiful, hardly used buildings and infrastructure, too much money”, we concluded.
It was a bummer, b/c we counted on strolling from our hotel to little coffeeshops or have breakfast along the beach, but this was not possible. I know, the world burns, but this was a bummer…
