Hi from Sheffield Yorkshire England well you just scratched the serfice of this ABSALUT juganort of a band that is nightwish! I have seen and listened to every metal band from the beging
Wonderful reaction Jynger! One of their heaviest songs, though a couple go at least as hard. Tuomas has said that the next album is already written and there are demos which the band listened to on their brief tour in the US in May. Floor has said that it will be a little heavier than the last few. They plan to go into studio to record late spring early summer 2023. So, depending on where the tour starts, it will be very late 2023 or more likely, 2024 when they come back to the US. They did a very limited tour (8 US cities) post Covid supporting their latest album, Human || Nature, after having had to cancel many shows. They are currently finishing up that tour in Europe and have some shows planned in Asia. Keep in mind they play much smaller venues here in the US, usually around 2-3 thousand. Based on your enjoyment of this song, I suggest another chunky, heavy, not quite as hard, song from this show, Song of Myself. This is my personal favorite from the Wacken show. Enjoy!

And before anyone says anything, the arena performance is not the better performance. Why? Simply put, sound balance and mixing. In the arena performance, the sound seems incoherent at times, or that certain elements are thicker than they need to be. The Nightwish Cruise, because of how compact the venue is, allows the sound to bounce off the walls and the ceiling better than the far walls and high ceiling of an arena, thus acting as a "mixer" to combine the sound better and easier. And just so you know, JyngerSnapz, Yours Is An Empty Hope is a song that is known for Floor growling -- the other being Ghost River from Wacken 2013.

That was a 3 octave glissando that Floor did in tandem with Marko. The studio version, recorded in the Tarja era, on has his 2 octave slide. One of their heavier songs, and one of the few that Emppu really shreds on. He , and the entire band, play what the song needs. They aren't out there to show off. The song itself is about a romance that has died. It's over, time to move on. As you see, Marko sings too. He does backing and co-lead on a lot of songs , and lead on a few. Unfortunately, he decided to leave the band last year, for personal reasons, after 2 decades. Rule of thumb , your favorite Nightwish song is the one you are listening to.
Don't know if I said it but Flloor did a program with other singers called beste zangers (best singers) its a Duth program with English subtitles. Check it out sometime, she did a couple of songs there and they are awesome. You see a whole other Floor. 🤔😉😊

It's so nice to see someone boarding on the same journey that I started 3 years ago and enjoying it so much. Have fun on your journey, Jynger! It's a pity that you missed them in May, but I'm sure they'll be back after the realease of their next album, which they'll be recording in the summer of '23. My guess is that they'll be touring the world again in '24.
Loved this. I agree with another commenter that said you might quite enjoy Song of Myself from the same concert. Also if you enjoyed that, you might quite enjoy Epica. They are another Symphonic Metal band very similar to nightwish but a bit heavier and darker generally. Their lead singer is Simone Simmons (And she happens to be good friends with lovely Floor from nightwish). If you're interested, I'd love to watch you check out Epica's song Kingdom of Heaven : Part 3 - The Antediluvian universe - from their Omega Alive concert they streamed over the pandemic. It's quite a sweeping experience that runs the gamut. :-)
The whole Wacken 2013 concert is amazing. Any song is fantastic that’s why I bought that Blu-ray. You don’t see that many concerts where every song is amazing. I think you will love Ever Dream too from the same concert or Ghost River if you want metal. Other great concerts are in Buenos Aires and in London. At the moment I really like Dead Boys Poem but it changes a few times per week. 😂
