  • Welcome to the third part of my travel story to the new Icelandic volcano in what it means for the nearest town and our infrastructure.
    Link to Part I
    • The Icelandic Volcano ...
    Link to part 2
    • The Icelandic Volcano ...
Part 1. The travel to Grindavík and the surroundings:
Part 2. Full Grindavík tour, culture and stories.
Part 3. Walking tour to the volcano and footage
So for those of you who just wanted to see the “red stuff” it’s less than you might expect, but i covered however the surroundings very well and it’s mixed with information about icelandic history, culture and mentality, which is an approach that I know many of my viewers like.

I especially love the story with the tripod! It is one of regular experiences for me (private or as guide), or for my guests (tourists). If you loose or forget something somewhere on this island, it will be found and you will get it back - it just needs some phone calls.
Moral: nothing can be lost in Iceland, exept for your heart!

Awww, that is such a lovely comment on the people of Iceland. Thanks. I live in the US in a smallish town (50k) in the SW. I have never left anything anywhere here that I did not get back including my credit card and, once, a $20 bill. That is unusual for much of the world today but it makes one feel so good to be able to live in a place like that. I know how you feel.

  • @kctaz6189

You should make copies of the town at night with the volcano erupting in the backgroud. I'd buy a photo of that professionally done and treasure it.
Geologists sound like economists. You both need two hands to make predictions.Economist, "the stock market could go up for a long time. On the other hand, it could go down."
Geologist, "This could end any time, on the other hand, this could go on for decades."
Thank you so much for working so hard to get these shots. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed it, and your others and your informed commentary. The shot of the town at night with the volcano erupting in the background was stunning. I've saved a copy of that just to preserve the memory.

I’m glad you did it too! I love your artistic flair with the camera and your thoughtful and fun comments too . I have watched other videos, but I like yours’ best! There is an expression in English, “ you think outside the box, “ which means that you have long range vision ( not for entertainment only)and ask very good questions about how this affects the future. I love to watch something that makes me curious and helps me think beyond the actual thing being photographed.

Thanks for doing these videos, I do want to point out that although there are several folks doing video journals around the volcano, I think you are the only one reporting on geologist perspective. Who are your geologist sources speculating on the lava reservoir activities and how can we get more information from them? Can you interview them and bring back their musings? I read somewhere there was something about mix of materials coming up - geologists are using that to speculate about what type of eruption this is.

Thank you for yet another great update, and the looks all around Grindavik and the area. Count me as another geologist who appreciates your view on uncertain future predictions. My rule of thumb is “If Scientist A says something *will* happen in a specific time frame, then they are almost certainly wrong. If they say there is a good chance something will occur in the same time frame, I’ll listen to their arguments and see what I think.”
I like to think of geology as the art of solving a four-dimensional jigsaw puzzle (the Earth) when you are limited to only a tiny slice of the time dimension, so all you can see is the results of everything that happened prior to us. Good for keeping humble, I think...
