    I would move there if I could! Love the idea of the isolation, long nights and days, northern lights, puffin colonies, etc. So long as I had a good internet connection and lots of books and art materials I would be extremely happy there. It looks like a charming little house and a very interesting story but 6 months of night, above the arctic circle, with earthquakes, *a* store, only 60 inhabitants and shrinking, a three hour ferry trip to get to the mainland. In the US we have a clever comment, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" Referring to the fact that president Abraham Lincoln was shot while attending the theater with his wife. I'm sure there is someone out there who will think it is wonderful.

    • @arealassassin
      @arealassassin 3 года назад

      Yea I watched it out of curiosity, and came away thinking "what a bleak, desolate, treeless, uninspiring place". Every single convenience, tool, hardware, clothes, etc an epic journey away... I'm sure the only good point would be the clarity of the night sky, but even that would get tedious with the long dark winter. And imagine how the cold wind would howl incessantly across that flat, featureless island! No, thanks.

    • @brucekuehn4031
      @brucekuehn4031 3 года назад +1

      The Arctic Circle is the line where on the Winter Solstice, the Sun does not rise above the horizon and on the Summer Solstice it does not set. Every day has a noticeable change in day length, but it is not true that there are 6 months of night. They would also experience the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox (Spring and Fall) when the days and nights are nearly equal.

    Thanks for this nice video! Grimsey fascinates people also in my country: one of our greatest police novel writer, Fred Vargas, wrote one six years ago ("temps glaciaires", I try to translate the title by "ístídar"), which is supposed to partially take place on this island. Not sure the impressive description she gives is 100% faithful, but the book is great. I don't know whether a translation of it in Icelandic is available...

    Það væri gaman að geta skoðað Grímsey einn daginn. Sendi Flugfélaginu fyrirspurn í fyrra hvort það væri hægt að bjóða upp á dagsferðir frá Reykjavík beint þangað (ferðumst innanlands) en þeir sendu tölvupóstinn áfram og ég hef aldrei heyrt frá þeim. Það á ekki að vera að keyra alla leið uppeftir, taka ferjuna yfir og dvelja þar í 2-3 daga. Þetta kostar allt sitt og miðinn frá RKV-AEY-GRY og til baka er dýrara en t.d. frá KEF til Rómar v.v. En ég get ímyndað mér að margir vilja komast einu sinni þangað. Þannig verð ég bara áfram í Vogunum og fylgist með gosinu.

En mér virðist eitthvað fólk hjá Icelandair verið á móti þessari hugmynd og bíður fégráðugt eftir því að fólki neyddist að óþörfu fljúga fyrst til AEY og svo til GRY.
