We all seem to know about Foxy from Five Nights at Freddy's being a pirate and then a captain in the DLC for the VR game and then as a cowboy in the VR's sequel but then why aren't we talking about him being a train conductor in a 1930s Disney cartoon?
'Lo there, it's me again. "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile" was directed by Rudy Ising, "Trolley Troubles" by Walt Disney. Disney would direct most of his studio's cartoons up to about 1929-1930 when Ub Iwerks started directing as well as animating. Disney would insist on internal consistencies in his cartoons- That's why there's a power line in "Trolley Troubles," but none in "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile." Also, you'll notice in that cartoon (the second Merrie Melodies to be released, by the way) Foxy's trolley car keeps changing design. The problem may have been that while Ising timed the cartoon, he left the layouts to the animators, and it looks like some of them didn't follow the model sheets very well. Then there's the trolley vs. the cow gag lifted from the Oswald cartoon. Harman and Ising "quoted" it in the first Looney Tune "Sinkin' In The Bathtub," where the cow is on the road blocking Bosco's fliver. Harman and Ising added two things to that gag- First, the cow shows her contempt by spitting on Bosco's car, second, she has a huge udder, and after Bosco drives over her, she stands up, turns, flips it over her back, and nose in the air in offended dignity, walks away, her massive milk bag flopping to "Pomp and Circumstance." Ising later said that particular gag got a roar of laughter from the audience, and if a gag went over big, Harman and Ising would recycle it in other cartoons. In "Smile, etc.," the cow is now wearing a skirt. There had been complaints about gross cow udder gags in cartoons, and it looks like the Hays Office told the animation studios to knock it off. So, cartoon cows now wore skirts. With a skirt, though, the cow walking away to "Pomp and Circumstance" isn't as funny as the first time, when she was naked. Also, the scenes where Foxy's Trolley is running away, the animated railroad tracks, and the tunnel are lifted from the 1930 Looney Tune "Boxcar Blues", and I believe they were drawn by Hugh Harman. Scene Two of "Trolley Troubles" was animated by Harman, along with the scenes where Oswald's trolley runs out of control, going through tunnels and flinging passengers out as it careens along. Harman, along with Iwerks and Freleng, not only was one of Disney's best 1920s character animators, but Hugh also specialized in animating things moving in perspective. To cut costs, Harman and Ising would use stock footage in their cartoons for Schlesinger, a prime example being a speeding steam locomotive roaring down the track. That locomotive would be recycled as late as 1939. And the shot where Foxy's thrown mouth first into the camera was lifted from out of the Disney Oswalds. In some ways, both Harman and Ising's comedy chops were limited to what they'd learned from Walt while working for him, and nothing more. I've never heard the story about Disney suing Foxy. It's more likely he got a court injunction against Schlesinger to stop the plagiarism. That's what he did with the Van Bueren Mickey and Minnie rip-offs, the injunction later becoming a decree forbidding that studio from drawing anything that looked like Mickey Mouse. If my information is correct, the shot of Oswald rubbing his foot for luck was Friz Freleng's animation. Also, there's a gag in "Trolley Troubles" that the 1920s audience would've gotten that's lost on modern viewers- When Oswald starts up his trolley car, he cranks it like a Model T Ford. That gizmo he pulls as he cranks- That's a choke. In the last few years before the Model T went off the market, Ford added a choke next to the radiator, to help make it easier to start your Tin Lizzie, though in the last two years of production, Model T's had electric starters. Belated Happy Hogmanay to you. I go now.
Just so you know, Trolley Troubles wasn't originally a silent film, there is actually a Disney print on some copies of Trolley Troubles, but I'm going to guess it's a bit more rare because there isn't much Disney print versions of Trolley Troubles on RUclips, it's mostly the Universal print, which must mean the Disney print with sound is rarer.
Tbh, the Looney Tunes didn't start to get better until Daffy came in, but they didn't start to shine until the debut of Bugs Bunny. The early shorts were just average to me compared to the majestic ones.
2:34 "Ah, now that is a demonstration of Oswald's party piece: being able to pull himself apart and put himself back together again." Felix the Cat would like a word.

Fun fact: Foxy's last episode ends with him being shot. No joke.
😲That's something you don't hear every day
Foxy and his friends would make a return in the Tiny Toon Adventures episode, "Two-Tone Town".
Yep.
Foxy became Less Mickey Mouse and More Fox-like. This will be less confused.

God I feel like I just Watched Oswald Curbstomp Foxy's Head in basically the whole time.
10:44 And the whole cartoon was all a dream. Just like in North.

Felix the Cat would like a word.
Should've thought about that one XD
You should do a Vs. video on WB's "Rhapsody Rabbit" and MGM's "Cat Concerto".
Funny you should say that. I was considering that as an option not two hours ago!
I always thank ub iwerks or the Oswald short's success on the substance area, while Walt allowed the mass spread and prevelance of the shorts.
Yeah, I agree. Walt was a good animator but he always was a much better businessman.

Why Foxy and Roxy is sound like Mickie and Minnie Mouse?
Awesome works!
Now time to wait 11 months folks for the big mouse to become ours
Yep. And when the time comes we'll be ready
2:57 oswald actually has 420 kids (according to epic mickey)
Well, you know what they say about rabbits.
I like both! Keep Foxy alone 🤣
Of what it seems like, you didn't use the HD version of 'Smile, Darn Ya, Smile', and instead used a way inferior version.
MICKEY
Oswald is the 2nd oldest Disney character being younger than bootleg Pete

MICKEY MO ki
If only they give Foxy triangular ears and a pointer nose, then he wouldn’t be a Mickey Mouse clone.
He certainly would've lasted a bit longer if that were the case.
