The card stock that was used to make the lamp housing, was used through several manufactured products in it's time. Camera housings, toys, even car and truck interiors. This toy housing would have been steam bent. The material used to assemble it is called buckram and was used to cover books.
When I was a child in 1977, 10 years old, I had a projector throw a roll of paper under Roynel brand, and I used to draw customized cartoons, static pictures, non movement, just one lens, metallic case and a simple bulb. The projector here shown has two lenses, giving effect of movement. Great! Huggs from 🇨🇱 Santiago, Chile SouthAmerica. 😉😀

It is indeed a stroke of Genius, while I love leather for its ability to be completely Blacked out using Dye, it’s sadly a near lost art now and sheet metal is a very good alternative!
As always, your love and patience for old things to restore it even better when they’ve left the factory is joyfully to watch. Your ‘cart trick’ to use the ace of diamonds deserves an even better ace of hearts 💕. Thank you yet again for sharing this beautiful video with the rest of us♥️👍👍🇳🇱
I could never do restoration because I'd no doubt forget which piece went where and just end up with a pile of cleaned parts. Keep up the awesome work, these videos are incredibly satisfying.
Wow, the movie at the end was epic. The suspense, the drama, the action were out of this world, Hollywood can take note from this for future movies. Almost forgot, a very good restoration but for the light bulb cover i would try to use hard leather or something similar to the original piece in order to be as authentic as possible

But I guess if you have the knowledge and the skills everything is possible. 👍😊 Good thing you saved this and showed us the restauration of this. Thank you so much ❤️
that's both a quite neat design and a little painful to watch as the end, this uneven blinking and image offset... but otherwise alternating those two sets of image make for a pretty well done feeling of animation, I like it. otherwise great restoration, so many little parts ! an good idea to replace some rivets with threadlocked screws, it's probably better this way.
I miss the time were toys used mains connected bulbs with cotton insulated wires inside ungrounded metal cases ! That helped so many kids to learn great things about electricity! :D Fantastic job by the way, you're using so many different technique to do your work. Love the trick for the gold paint stamping!

I had a Thing-Maker as a kid in the 60's. Plug it in, heat the metal mold up and pour goop in to cook up little Creepy Crawler creatures. Hot enough to blister a finger. Safety concern? We didn't touch it until the creatures cooled, problem solved!

Great work! The sheet metal replacement really improved the look. Watching the film jump up and down disorientated me, I don't think I could watch that for more than a few seconds. Definitely not bingeable.
Another piece of history saved from oblivion, and certainly improved. As I enjoy your mesmerizing work, I also think of the life and times of the boy, or the girl that one day, long decades ago, was so happy with that toy.

Great restoration and filming, as usual, but this time I can't give it the thumbs up because you absolutely have to use a 3-wire cable and ground the housing if you make it from metal, otherwise there is a risk of a deadly electrical shock.

I guess it was used as it would not heat up too much with the close contact to the bulb & would protect a 50's kid from contact burns.
