world record first e mower drift at the Freedom Factory!
I've been wanting one of these for years. In your video, it's a lot louder than I thought it would be based on older videos and reviews.
Wow, the mixing of that intro music with the sound of the blades starting up. Excellent content, as always!
I picked up the 38" 75AH.. Best outdoor purchase I have ever made..Electric for the home consumer is definitely worth it. Wish I got the zero turn however its definitely not needed for my yard. good review.. Tad jealous you got yours for free.. Keep up the good work..
I bought a stihl battery operated lawn mower about five years ago, and i have been very happy with it.
One of the best videos I've watched! Great job and very professional.
I love my Ryobi, I have the manual push for 2 years now. One of my batteries stopped working and it was within the warranty, they replaced it no problem and the customer service was fantastic! My batteries are 40V 4ah and 5ah Lithium they don't last long in power depending on how high my grass is. My mower is definitely not heavy at all but again it's manual. My mower won't work without the bagging kit, meaning it won't start if the bag is not connected. Only other nerve racking thing is when the bag gets full the grass won't blow back into the bag. That causes the mower to cut off and again depending on how high the grass is, there's a lot of breaks to dump the grass into compost bags. I agree the cut is great, and it's really easy to push and move around. I tried it one time when the grass was wet, bad idea, the blades just kept jamming up and couldn't blow into the bag. Over all I'm with you on Ryobi being a great investment for home lawns 😁
The steering wheel type 30" and 38" mowers do have bagger and mulching attachments available. I recently bought the 30" (smaller to save on storage size) and it's a breeze. As far as cleaning, I did notice drain holes in various spots in case it did get water all over it, so while you "shouldn't" do it, it did seem like they made some considerations to the fact that it might actually get wet.
Thank you for your video review. I just purchased the 42” Ryobi zero turn and it was a combo kit with the bagger kit and 2 extra blades. I also checked on a mulching kit for the 42” and there is none. They did however offer a mulching kit for the 54” now. I’m not sure exactly when you did this review but it is offered for the 54” now. Thanks again for your review!
Was considering this mower and very much appreciate the review! Thanks Alan.
I've had mine over a year and still does perfect
What is the run time for the battery?
Any plans to review the EGO Zero turn mower? Model - ZT4204L
That was an awesome video, Allyn. Very well done.
Nice video, it got to be nice to review new lawn equipment, and you do a great job at it, Battery Power Cool.
Damn, busting out the dad sneakers for the promo shot. Im sold!
I had gas edger's for years and finally had to get a new one. Got battery and LOVE IT! No maintenance or gas! I will buy a battery push mower next when its time for this same reason.
Good review. Note: The manual says to back on to your trailer due to weight distribution. You don't want to do a wheelie while loading.
Yes! I’ve been waiting on this review!
I went with the Cub Cadet version over the Ryobi because the Cub was sold in store and I could use my military discount. Also, the biggest reason I went with an electric zero turn is there is basically no belts and pulleys that need maintenance which saves me money in the long run.
Very professional and informative video. Thank you for detailed pros and cons.
I went from never cutting grass in my life to the Ego eco system and I am quite enjoying it.
same!! last year a bought a ego mower. first ever time i mowed
Stopping in to show some love nice mower and nice video.
@@Thelawncarenut Your welcome
I’d love to see an updated review with the latest electric push mowers!
There is one of those on RUclips
battery technology hasnt really chaged in 20 years. Its just gotten more affordable and effective. Motors are still based on laws of electrical and physics so as long as the motor is the same model ever mower will be the same. Motors havent changed in.. well ever.. Brushless are just gettting cheaper and smaller so you see them in new things now but they still have been around for eons.
Great review -I would also like to see the comparable EGO review. Having interchangeable/replaceable batteries with my other EGO Tools is a huge advantage
Lets see it cut grass that is overgrown please. I would expect that machine to cut the inch and a half off the top of that yard without struggle. I just want to see its full abilities.
Agree. How would this hold up with an overgrown Midwest lawn?
would be better than a gas mower
Video footage showed grass that was not overgrown at all.
These are targeted for the average consumer not commercial work. If it's not for you then don't buy, simple as that
@@KiKitutorials1 Average consumers have overgrown grass too not just commercial. When giving advice, try to make logical considerations or it makes you appear foolish.

My wife laughed hearing that too. So awesome lol
For the same price as my 17" Liberty 43 I could have bought a 30" sitdown with a steering wheel. Time to put a seat and steering wheel on my Allett lol :) Great review Al. Have a safe and great holiday weekend bro.
What a great review. Cool mower.
FYI, I have the 42” Ryobi zero turn, and that version already has a bagging kit and a mulching kit available.
Clever showing the decibel meter with both mowers. No matter what it's best to wear ear protection when operating any mower.
Yes I agree for sure on that one.
What's better then this mower is the 80s music . Love it!
On one of your previous videos, that Greenworks mower has adjustments for the handles on the handle shaft. You do not need to crawl through the middle like you did. They are green ovals on either side.
Bring on the reviews. I just bought a 2021 Super Recycler, but I'm open to battery everything else.
i just got the ryobi 38” 100ah ride on mower from an auction house. the deck was disconnected (they thought it was broken but it wasn’t) and it was missing its charger. had a couple of scratches on the plastic panels. i paid $650 for it which was a steal. love using it and i’m planning to add a striper kit. it’s very quiet with the blades off. when on it’s loud but significantly less so than anything gas powered.
Do you plan to do three point turns when laying down stripes? This is what keeps me away from these or tractor style mowers, vs what you can do with a ZT or walk behind (I use a Timemaster).
I love the big battery powered equipment so much quieter!
Less air pollution and noise for neighbors 👏
800 dollars plus every 4 years to replace 4 lead acid batteries ..... hmmmmm
Thanks for the review! Looks like a solid product. In regard to the sound comparison test, I did notice that the gas mower got much louder as you got closer to the house, so maybe not the fairest test. I feel like most of the noise coming from any mower is from the blades, so realistically I'm not expecting much of a noise difference going from gas to electric. Very much looking forward to having virtually no maintenance and not having to store gas any more though!
Great video and good information!
“Puttin grandmas preserves down on the bottom shelf where everybody can digest them” 😂… can’t say that’s anything I’ve ever heard before.
Love the review Allyn!!!! Ryobi........You make a rider mower.......Waterproof it!!!!
The greenworks commercial can mow 12 acres on a single charge and is also lithium batteries.
Sounds about right. The example shown comes with a 13.8 kWh battery. The Ryobi comes with a 5.5 kWh battery. Assuming similar efficiencies the Greenworks will do about 2.5x as much as the Ryobi on a single charge. Greenworks also comes with a 1500 watt charger while the Ryobi looks to be a 500 watt charger. So the Greenworks will recharge at a similar speed but cover 2.5x more ground.
They also cost three times as much
@@sociopathmercenary there’s always a downside
@@sociopathmercenary But lithium batteryies should last about 3x as many years if done right, even with the full cycle everyday (assuming you charge on the trailer and assuming 2 cuts a week on the Ryobi), longer if Ryobi did a bad job with the lead acid. And the lead acid won't last as well in cold climates unless stored in a heated location.
Lead acid is pretty old and toxic tech.
Hi have you reviewed the ego 42" zero turn? I bought one in May and I like it. I got it mostly because those 10ah batteries will fit in the ego power station. My ego weighs about 470 with 6 batteries installed.
That's really awesome. Take care of yourself.
Your NB shoes shots with the riding lawn mower are perfect. Not sure if it was intentional "Dad" vibes but I got a little chuckle out of it.
Intentional and also for comfort 😁
This thing is cool. Would like to own one someday! 🙌
800 dollars plus every 4 years to replace 4 lead acid batteries ..... hmmmmm
The review I'm wanting to see from you is of the robotic mowers. I just bought the Husqvarna 430XH and have had it operating for just under 2 weeks. My lawn is not nice and smooth and I had to fill several holes that would cause it to get stuck but I think that I'm almost there now. It hasn't gotten stuck in about 4 days. I have it handling around 0.6 acres of grass that is a combination of tall fescue, crab grass, and clover. I realize that with the setup and installation of these things that it would not be a video that you could produce in a hurry. The cut from this thing seems incredibly even though and the grass blades are sliced off very cleanly.
Great style of video. Have you done any reviews on electric push mowers?
Did I just catch a glimpse of you at the Freedom Factory??! A crossover I didn't know I wanted..
Alan installed and maintains the infield at the FF
Yep Alan installed all the grass in the infield, and now he maintains it. There is videos of it on both channels.
Yall are so cute with your little electric mowers, cars etc. 🤣
Be careful, your Ole lady will replace you with something battery operated 😂

Nope. I get it. You can just go back to using your crayons for drawing. You are attracted to people who like to try new things and like to try to do the right thing. No that there is anything wrong with that.
Wow Lawn at the CHurch looks Great!!!!!
Awesome man
saw a nice looking cub cadet electric riding mower the other day at home depot
Here in COW TOWN “City Of Wichita” In 2020 a 4 man lawn service converted from Gas to E reduced his fuel oil lube bill $26K and almost maintenance free. NOW LOOK AT FUEL PRICES +$1, and going up, MORE PER GALLON than last year.
VERY well done !!
What kills me with these manufacturers is they know people are going to wash their mowers. Why would they not take that into consideration when they design these.
They just can't guarantee they're water proof vs resistant
Likely because it's cheaper to design them without being waterproof? $$ is usually the answer.
Yeah, that's not it.
800 dollars plus every 4 years to replace 4 lead acid batteries ..... hmmmmm
Toro now has a 60v battery powered Super Recycler. Given your love of the gas powered Super Recycler, it would be great to see a review and comparison of the battery powered version.
The EGO Z6 is a pretty good option. They made an excellent move allowing all your battery lawn equipment to be powered by the same battery including the riding mower. They state that the charging system is fast, but I see the real benefit of you being able to remove the batteries where the Ryobi falls short. However the EGO falls short on cutting width, I only see 42 inch availability at the moment. Overall I think EGO is on an excellent path utilizing the battery system for a complete lawn system.👍👍
Ego now has a 52" deck with 5 electric moters and up to 6 12ah batteries. They say it cuts 4 Acers. I have the smaller 42" and it is freggin awesome. Great power, cut quality and features
"I was, nailing it, too"
3 crosses of Calvary in the background 😂
Well done.
My problem with battery powered tools in general is that I end up with a bunch of disparate, unintegrated batteries and chargers. Thanks for the review, this is one nice mower ... and looks like it's up to the task. Having said that, I'm not being a Luddite or anything, but it's hard to imagine battery powered mowers capturing the market away from commercial grade gas mowers ... not at the pace and volume those guys go! They don't stop!
would love to see the Ego Zero Turn compared to this now. I know its a smaller deck but it does have the perk of charging in only 2 hours and expandable battery options. Hopefully they can send you one to test!
I would love to test one for sure. I'm a huge Ego fan
A good friend and co-worker has the Ego Z6 and he let me borrow it one day to mow my 2.5 acres. I mowed it testing all the various drive functions and blade speeds. When I was done, the stock 4 batteries (it will hold 2 additional, which he doesn't have or need) still had 27%. I'm sold. It is an awesome unit. Clearly the superior consumer electric zero-turn. Second place would go to the Cub Cadet electric zero turn, which has far less features, but is about $1000 cheaper.
Well presented. Fact based plus well informed opinions.
Update: as of January 2022 Ego now has a 52" deck for their zero turn, plus bigger batteries it comes with six 12ah batteries that cut up to 4 acers. Plus the batteries come with 5 year warranty. Its Ego so all the batteries are interchangeable and work with all their tools.
How do you fix it if it stops working? What are the costs? Are small engine shops equipped to work on these
Wow the Ego zero turn is just so much better especially when it comes to the batteries.
I have a ryobi push mower. Works really good.
That is SWEET!!!
Daaaaang they really hooked you up!!
Couple clarifications and my 2 cents. The bagging kit and mulching blades are available for the smaller 42 inch models. They must not be available for the 54 inch one you reviewed, which is new to their lineup. In my experience the bagging kit is handy especially if you want to pick up leaves, but the weight of grass in the bagger will bring the battery down a little quicker.
I have owned my zero turn 75 ah model for 2 years now. I keep it in a shed that has electric, and the mower is plugged in whenever not in use, which means it's plugged in all winter.
This season I noticed the mower starts out at 75% charge even after days of being plugged in. I'm assuming this is how I'll observe the degradation of the batteries over time. I plan on calling Ryobi and asking what they think of it.
What did Ryobi think of that? Kind of smells like lead acid battery performance to me.
Nice 👍 review Al!..Lawncology 👑…☮️👏
Hey LCN! Need to check out new battery push mowers and see if any can mulch as well as the Toro super recyclers yet! Thanks!
Once you said lead acid that was all I needed to hear the cut rate battery for a cut rate product. That's why they're cheaper because they're cheaper you get what you pay for.
I mean, it’s not a car, you don’t need to be able to go hundreds of miles. I don’t see why using golf cart batteries are a big deal to keep the price reasonable.

I bought a Kobalt battery pushmower for trim work. I'm WELL IMPRESSED with it. I believe the Kobalt and Stihl as well as the Harbor Freight offerings are the same OEM, Greenworks. They have far too many similarities.
I'm only 25 seconds into the video and already know....nothing will look as beautiful as those sexy New Balance shoes you have there. Puts that shiny paint on the mower, the grass, and even your super tan legs to shame man. Thanks for this. I wasn't needing new shoes, but now I think I do. Seriously though...great video man. I have 2 tractor mowers 1 is MTD which 25 go 48inch cut 16 years old still going replace battery pulleys belts and John Deere 20 Garden tractor 1998 48 in cut still going both the oil is clear and as said belts pulleys same tires and motor. Will that electric on hold up to 16 to 20 yard of service
Hey Allen great content as always. My biggest concern with battery powered equipment is how well the batteries will hold up over time. It’s one thing to pay a bit extra for the convenience of not having to deal with gas. However, the battery packs on these things (and handheld tools) are very expensive to replace. A decent gas motor will last 10 plus years no problem if you take care of it and will deliver the same level of power. I can’t imagine the batteries are going to hold the same level of charge in a few years. No other battery packs, car batteries, etc do.
That seems to be one of the main apprehensions most people have. I asked Ryobi about replacement batteries and cost and got no answer. I'm going to ask again for a follow-up.
Here's something you have to keep in mind though. If you figure up over that 10 year span, the cost of all the gas, oil filters, oil, air filters, spark plugs, belts and that's just routine maintenance. Calculate that up and then compare with the cost of replacement batteries. The more you have to know the more you save with having Electric. Sometimes it will break even sometimes it will save money, it all depends on how much you use the mower.
Anyway to mount a snowplow in order to get some winter usage out of this 5K machine?
Hey man! Just got my hat in and I looked like a pro mowing yesterday ;). Quick question, I'm local to you over in Riverview. I noticed my Saint Aug lawn is filled with spiders. Especially with the amount of rain we've had you can see them floating around and crawling on my vinyl fence to get out of the water. What can I use to eliminate them from the lawn without killing the grass? Finally got the lawn looking nice after the rain brought it back. Don't want to do anything I'll regret. Appreciate any advice.
have a question for ya, watch a vid on a ryobi 42 elec. rider and after his first cut he wanted to see how much was under the deck and took deck off and it was packed with grass,, how is it with this mower after a very big cut job?
I've owned a Ryobi mower for the past year. Fact the batteries worked fantastic for the first few months, I have an acre of land to mow, I'd get done with 40-50% -- Today it's down to about 20% after only a year. Think about your cell phone and how well it worked when you first got it, and after a year or two the battery just doesn't last as long. Electric mowers are the same -- at this rate I'll be buying new batteries for mine at $200 per battery within the next year or so just to continue to mow my lawn. Gas powered mower -- The last one I owned lasted over 10 years with minor maintenance to the engine. This is a fantastic mower but realize the cost is going to be significantly more than Gas.
I tried really hard to find a battery rider that same size. My dealer didn't have any electric Cub Cadets during COVID. So I went with gas Time Cutter. Maybe next time.
What's your thoughts on pulling a small craftsman core aerator twice a yr
Like to see it in overgrown and wet grass. Also does it have a hitch mount? Does it stripe well?
Does the charger need to be plugged in over the winter to keep the battery topped off? Its a lead acid battery maybe like a deep cycle one. I'm just thinking in my northern climate you don't want batteries to freeze. You cant pull it and put it on a shelf with a trickle charger in the basement. The cut seems meh, and it doesn't seem to stripe or have a striping kit. Is it comfortable? More or less than a toro? I wonder how the dust will treat the windings and bearings of the motor.
Only thing holding me on going full electric is battery longevity, do I need a new battery every 2-4 years ? How much are the batteries? 1,500$?
Nice review. Lets see it mow some taller thick midwestern grass though.
How would you clean the deck without getting the electrical motors wet?
Thank you, great video. How long do the batteries last? Can they be replaced and at what cost?
I had the same question. Especially after he said they can’t be removed. Does that mean the whole mower needs to be replaced?
@@dannyisaacs1 no way they can’t be replaced. The are pretty standard led acid 12V batteries. Think he meant not easily can they be taken out.
Replacing battery are expensive is the same when we replace golf cart battery or construction message boards
I just looked at a new mower today then seen this review and was sold until the part that said battery's can't be removed!
Check out the Ego zero turn. It uses four 56v removable batteries that can be used in other Ego tools. I'm confident Allyn reviewed it several months ago and had a lot of good things to say about it. I love my Ego mower, edger and weed eater.
I would like to see what you think of the Greenworks 25" Brushless walk behind.
As someone who is slowly replacing his gas tools with battery operated, started with a 12 inch chain saw and then replaced my weed eater, I've gone with Greenworks and I don't plan on looking back. The batteries are replaceable, and if for whatever reason they stop making batteries I can rebuild the battery pack myself plain and simple, I've been looking at battery operated mowers and can't see myself buying one without a user replaceable battery. If that limits me to push mowing so be it but that's just my two cents lol
How long does the battery last? And I’m not meaning the 3.5 acres, but as in when it sits over the winter and the cold zaps the battery, how long is it supposed to last and what if the battery does go bad? Are there replacements or do u have to buy a new mower cause u said the battery isn’t removable?
I'd guess a large part of the price difference between the commercial and Ryobi is the batteries. I have a motorcycle and the old lead acid type battery is about $70. I ungraded too a lithium ion battery for it and it was about $225 three years ago. Weight difference if ridiculous, maybe 7 lbs vs half a pound. Got a trickle charger for it by the same manufacturer and works like a champ.
Picked up a 13" cordless for $99 (home depot pricing mistake)...I have a 2400 sqft bermuda/augustine lawn..cuts well and will cut the whole lawn on the 4ah battery (included) (barely though)....it does bog down though when the lawn is wet and if i go too fast....but it does the job otherwise
I've owned the wheel mower that cuts 2.5 acres and it has a bagger unit that mounts on the back. FYI
would love one of these
Love how he's cutting a perfectly mowed lawn
Did I miss something, there was no grass cutting. or is a tenth of an inch considered cutting?
What happens when your cutting and it starts to rain hard, will that hurt the mower?
