Carl Lewis just has that freight train finish. The last 15 meters every race he looks bigger and faster, like a freight train on NOS. I watch Usain Bolt who is the best runner all time but he is just steady fast the whole 100 meters. Carl Lewis just has that unusual 15 meter finish specimen in him that nobody else in the world has.

I have nostalgia for this time because I went to high school with kids from every background, financial level, every color - every race - every religion - and we were all friends. Carl Lewis was an icon and you've got to remember this was back in the mid-80s. There didn't seem to be much strife between black and white people back then. Seems like we're going backwards....in large part due to the "news" media brainwashing people.
There wouldn't be strife today if certain people in high places and their minions weren't stirring it up for their own ends, it's just about people becoming aware and not falling for the mischief mostly generated through media distortion. Psychologically people have resolved so much it's just the mischief makers cleverly pressing playing people off against each other all the time and people not being alert to it
You can’t beat the BBC commentary though. I remember hearing “....and the big man has the baton....and history is being made....on he comes, Carl Lewis”
British track and field commentary is sooo much better. It builds the occasion really well. US commentary doesnt go right with whats happening on the track 🤣🤦♂️

I researched that recently after watching a woman Puerto Rican 110m hurdler (bronze winner but was fav) seem to be on the line in her race. It was replayed but mouthpieces didn't mention it so I looked into it. She was not interfering or slowing opponent.

OJ also did commentary for ABC during the 76 games in Montreal. Everyone thinks of him as just a football player, he also ran track at USC and was part of their 4X220 yard world record relay team.
Yep, and that is sad.....cuz the good ole USA has been very slow to accept the global metric system....so the great days of old boys in the flatlands of West Texas back in the 1950s and 60s when human flashes like Bobby Morrow and Dave Sime were burning the cinder tracks are already forgotten....and that is all the more reason the 1800 vintage videos already posted on our site are such treasures.

Are you OK as long as you don't step over the line (which he didn't) or is merely touching the line (which I think he did) enough to get you disqualified? Carl didn't interfere with another runner, but I'm not sure whether that's relevant. Does it make a difference whether it's the inside or outside line? If you cross the outside line, as Carl almost did, you're actually putting yourself at a disadvantage because you're increasing the distance you have to cover.

Always though Bolt filled out that frame with 💉💉💉. Never a guy before or since who could run like that at that height. There's a reason: it's very difficult to be powerful at 6'6" because it's hard to fill that long frame with muscle. But somehow he, and nobody else in history, did it. I'm still suspicious.

Did only the USA compete in this event? Or the entire 1984 Olympics? Judging by the commentary, I guess not! My American friends in Detroit had to tune into Canadian stations to hear any news about any other competing nation. Had the Eastern Bloc attended, it may have helped keep the ego in check somewhat...
If they started on level terms on the last leg of a relay, it would be great to see. Lewis was generally a worse starter than Bolt so that takes away some of the advantage of Bolt.
@@connorduke4619 you do realize that bolts start qas by no means the best part of his race. Lewis isn't even close to bolt, volt can maintain top speed for much longer.

You could be right in saying that Bolt could maintain top speed for longer as Lewis tended to rely on a finishing burst to blitz everyone. Still we are probably talking the two greatest sprinters of all time.
