      You've never heard of X Factor? Its one of the worst manufactured pop machines the world has ever known.

      No, at least in Germany I never heard of it ;) It is a band/project?

      It's a reality TV show that has singers and occasionally other musicians competing for a record deal.

    33 years ago a big group of friends an I all hung out in a little apartment and most nights we listened to Ommadawn on repeat. Every time I hear it now it reminds me of a time when the world was more innocent and it gives me a sense of joyful nostalgia 😘☺️

    As a teenager I used to use the first 4 albums for "mood engineering".
    If you feel bad and want to cheer up ... Ommadawn,
    Keeping on the level ... Tubular Bells,
    Hyper and want to calm down ... Hergest Ridge,
    Contemplative, reflective with a hint of fun ... Incantations.

      I used to be part of a small group of friends, and once every week we smoked some weed , killed the lights and listened to one of the first three albums in silence . In hindsight i think it was a kind of therapy to get out of the normal hectic teenage live. ;)

      @@spiritualanarchist8162 Did this during a mushroom trip. For five of my friends, this was their first time listening to Tubular Bells and Ommadawn. Our minds were blown.

    The inspiration for this most sublime and heart rending composition surely came from a parallel universe. It is evocative of the pastoral English countryside and always conjours images of woods, fields and hamlets sheltering beneath a glowering English sky.

      If he is it's because he's so much more than a guitarist.

      +Mike Williams mike oldfield is rarely if ever mentioned alongside the greats in any genre, whether its rock, folk, classical or any other genre. Sadly his diversity means he has been hard to pigeon hole on any level. Sadly he is not often mentioned even though very few highly regarded players could even contemplate composing some of his pieces never mind implement the playing. I would class him generally as a player who puts the song first rather than burden it with self indulgent gymnastics.

    • @mikewilliams258
      @mikewilliams258 9 лет назад +5

      +theonlyredspecial Exactly, he's hard to pigeon hole - and why would anyone want to? He's still acknowledged throughout the world as a musical genius. Not a word I throw around casually.

    • @theonlyredspecial
      @theonlyredspecial 9 лет назад +8

      +Mike Williams yet my inital point stands. Outside of fan sites, or these posts with knowledgeable readers -- within the mainstream public his name is rarely mentioned. Any of the top 100 guitarists lists, or recognised polls he is rarely if ever mentioned. All i was saying, was, as a guitarist he doesnt get the credit he should.

    • @mikewilliams258

    I’ve caught up on many live MO performances on YT, and I’ve never said this before: I’d kill to have this great recording with Mike’s guitar louder in the mix. He’s almost buried at times. Incredibly performance. Even when he’s playing ‘rhythm’ (whatever that means in MO context), grace notes are flying. And in the last 10 minutes he’s just playing his ass off. Watch the body language. W’hew!
