Easiest Neem Oil Application: ruclips.net/video/kpnmVgNVgKk/видео.html A year later and I'm still using neem oil, but I've ditched the sprayer and prefer the 'root drench'!
We have a lot of neem trees in our neighborhood and I have one in my backyard. We usually boil the leaves and drink the solution to treat many conditions. It's actually some kind of herbs which is good for our health but it is extremely bitter. If you drink this neem juice once a week or two, even the mosquitos won't be interested in sucking your blood.. Haha. We usually use the same solution to spray on our garden too. I don't know about the fruit/nut though. So I cannot testify whether it has the same effect or not.
So I think spraying neem oil to our plant does not actually harms the insects. It just that the plants suck the oil and make them bitter, those making the insects lose interest on them. Neem oil in heavy concentration does contain poisonous substance for microbacteria or even the delicate roots I believe..
Great video JB. By the way, I have been using neem oil for years and it's really effective. It's perfect for prevention (1x/wk spraying) and in case of infestation, I spray every 3 days. Depending on the infestation, you may need to spray 3-4-5 times. But it does save the plant and kills the disease. Again, kudos to you.
Thank you so much for this great video. My cherry trees were about to suffocate because of Neem oil, and I had no idea how to wash it off from the leaves effectively. You saved my beautiful trees. Thank you

I treated all my plant with a quite strong neem oil emulsion after finding spidermites on some of my plants and a lot of the plants' younger or more delicate leaves didn't make it and developed a lot of brown looking spots. So guys be wary of that and don't use too much neem oil in your mixture! :)
Hey JB Cutty Shark, You have to make a mixture of 2.5ml litre of water. and you should sprinkle on plants either early morning, or evening as it breaks down in the heat of sun. its very effective when applied accordingly, and you should repeat the treatment every 14 days.
I have not yet used neem oil but I am getting ready to put it on now, my young pear tree has spider mites. So I was watching your video to know how to use it properly. Thanks for sharing!!!!! Great video!

When I was younger I used to smoke weed and I grew some plants one year and I used some dish soap and water as a spray. One of those plants in particular was never the same, it got completely fried, the buds didnt form right the leaves looked like golden yellow and crispy even when the new ones grew in. It got so fried. You definitely wanna use real soap as they call it or castille soap. Dish detergent can absolutely fry a plant.

Really useful JB, thanks. I thought you said early in the video that you shouldn’t spray it on salads or brassicas, leaves that you would eat basically? Did I get that wrong as later on you did spray them?
Yes good points. The salads I were spraying were a bit of an experiment because they were so aphid invested. The brassicas are early enough that I wouldn't be eating the leaves (and a lot are broccoli). Pure neem oil is toxic if ingested which is why they warn against having it around when children might have access to it. Hope that helps.
Thanks for your advice! I've been using a neem oil mixture on my garden with great success, but my biggest gripe with it is actually that it's next to impossible to clean out of my sprayer. I can refill the sprayer with water and dish soap, shake, and spray out several times and I still get gross neem residue/chunks leftover inside. Can't fit my hand inside to manually scrub either. Have you had that problem/any suggestions?
Hmm that's interesting. I generally only use my sprayer for neem oil alone, so I've not noticed that it's difficult to get rid of. I can imagine it, although in theory the method you've described should be good enough to get rid of it. Maybe take it home to a sink and try to get it soapy, big shake, then tip it all out and repeat a few times?

Well there is a difference if you buy pure Neem oil for beauty usage and pure Neem oil for agriculture use, the agriculture version will dissolve in water so there is no need to mix the soap together.
Do you have a source or any more info on this? I've literally never heard anything like that before? If it's 100% cold pressed neem oil it won't mix with water.
@@JBNat I order today the agricultural version and i have read all of the instructions, there is no mentions about mixing it with soap before. I can give you more info when the Neem oil arrives. On the product it says its 90% pure neem oil, nowhere it says its cold pressed.
I just tried it for the first time today. My research has turned up that the oil will not last for years, as you said. It actually degrades in a year or two - UNLESS - you refrigerate it, then it will last longer, but not for a really long time. It thickens when it gets cold, and thawing and cooling a larger quantity degrades it also. So what I have done is bought small 1 oz containers (about 2 T) that I can portion it out into and refrigerate those, so you are thawing only a dose at a time and not refrigerating and thawing the same oil over and over. Freezing doesn't work - ruins it.
I am considering a neem oil root drench for Echinacea ‘white swan’ to prevent mites from destroying the flower buds. Ideas? Have you root drenched any plants? Yea or nay? Cheers from New Hampshire,Us zone 4.
Hello! Honestly it's difficult to say, some people say yes and other people say no! I think it depends on the type of mildew and the plant that it's growing on. I know that my spraying did nothing to deter the PM I had on my Courgette plants, but they are EXTREMELY susceptible to it. If you do use it specifically for PM then you should try and do it very regularly, maybe once a week, and it's always best used as soon as you see a problem starting, or even before, as a preventative measure :) Good luck!
Neem oil is organic and natural and it does not have bad effects like you have of pesticides, they cause diseases, so I would recommend using Neem oil.
Absolutely! It works fantastically as a preventative measure if you know you're likely to be suffering from pests later in the season. I start treating all of my chilli peppers around April, before any aphid infestations can really set in.
Hello Mr. JB! New subscriber here. I just want to ask if Neem Oil can also rid of pest beneath the soil. My problem is about those pest eating the roots of my plants, I often see molds also. Does Neem Oil will work for that?
Thanks for subscribing! It definitely depends on the specific pest. It's very good for some soil-Bourne beasts such as fungus gnats. But I don't think it would work too well on something like big fat beetle grubs. Same answer for the molds as well! It really depends on the kind of mold. I tried using it on plants with downy mildew and it unfortunately didn't do much to help.
Neem oil solidifies at low temperatures! If room temperature is too cold for it, maybe you could leave it in the greenhosue for an hour. Alternatively you can put the bottle in warm water for a while, and it should liquify. Mine solidifies every winter too.
If you're spraying outdoors there should be no issue. If you're spraying on a greenhouse it may be best to wear a mask but I've never done so and suffered no short term effects. Good question!
Great video, lots of useful info. Neem oil is something I have never tried, always meaning or maybe Neaming to give it a go... perhaps this year if i get to planting anything. Hahhah! That Ice cream van, many 99s from that exact van..the kids love em. I hate the sound of it ;-) regards, Giles
Hi Chris! Thanks for your comment. I did consider covering this in the video but it is a very complex situation and all the literature I could find said it was safe to use. There's some info on the testing they've done in the US in the description!
Is UK trying to ban natural products that rival their chemically produced ones? Now this comes up on my search: "A search on here shows that neem oil seems to be this subs go-to for aphid issues, however, it appears to be banned in the U.K. due to its concerns it could cause infertility, abortions or liver damage in children (all things I'm keen to avoid!)."
@@snakeheadparadise Hi, very complicated subject. I found the reddit thread you're talking about. The main reason that pesticides containing Neem are banned is because of the associated risks to children and pregnant women. The two studies cited on wikipedia (Meeran et. al & Bhaskar et. al.) are both concerned with direct ingestion of pure neem oil. This shouldn't be a concern when using the concentration described in the video. I can't ACTUALLY find any source saying that neem products are banned in the UK, but I think it might be banned for use in creating products. It's certainly not illegal to buy or use it, although the law is kinda weird on this stuff. From the HSE ( www.hse.gov.uk/pesticides/user-areas/garden-home.htm ): "Part of the legal definition of a plant protection product takes into account the intended use of the product. For example garlic extract sold as a foodstuff doesn't require authorisation under plant protection product regulations but garlic extract sold as an insecticide does. In practice this means a number of own use home-made remedies such as beer traps or coffee grounds fall outside the scope of regulations." Interestingly it is approved as an insecticide under EU regulation 540/2011 ( www.legislation.gov.uk/eur/2020/1293/2020-12-31/data.xht?view=snippet&wrap=true )
I just used neem oil on my marijuana plants I didn't put the soap in with it but I got some on my skin and was worried about getting sick or something.
Hello! Good question. I do link to a card for another video that goes into deep detail on soaps, but I know they don't work on mobile, so you might not have seen it. If you're interested the video is here: ruclips.net/video/jEdjPpyNpHc/видео.html You can also find a link to a castile soap in my description which I just added, and this should be absolutely fine for your plants!
Hi James! As far as I know it doesn't degrade over time, it's a bit like vegetable oil in that regard. It might be less potent over a timescale of like 5-10 years? The important thing to note is that it does degrade when you mix it with an emulsifier - so once you've got a mixture in the sprayer that will only last about 8 hours before losing effectiveness.
Thanks for a really informative video with all the plus and minus things as well as your own conclusions and tips. Sure gave me some ideas of how to use it. Now I only have to find somewhere in Sweden that sells it :) Oh, and now I'm off to watch the insecticidal soap video you suggested while some of my plants stand in the bathtub soaked in soap water to battle an aphid infestation..
Apparently need oil doesn't work on potato bugs because I've drowned my potato plants in it and my plants are still being attacked by these little bastards that are ruining my garden
do not mix the solution like this..u should be mixing the emulsifier with the oil seperately very well ..then dilute tht with the gallon of water into tht foliar spray
Are you speaking from experience? I had a quick Google and it seems lots of people have had success treating ficus thrips with neem? The first time I tried using neem oil I used way too much dish soap and that really damaged my plants..
@@JBNat Haha I meant it in a complimentary way, Russell Crowe is awesome! I stumbled on your video because I'm wondering something...... if neem oil is good for killing bugs, would it also kill the soil microbiology if used as a soil drench? Thanks again for your vid
It's a good question! The EPA in the US produced a research document which I've linked in the description and that specifically talks about soil impacts and organisms like earth worms. It concludes fairly strongly that there's no impact, but I don't think it has looked at micro-impacts. Although it degrades readily and quickly I would just exercise caution when applying it, and not use too much.
Hi jb naturally jb is your name do you not want to do everything naturally? Using neem oil is altering the natural process in the garden isn’t it? I can see it has its purpose if you use things like that. But we need good and bad insects to keep the balance. So it sounds ok for those who use these things but we don’t use anything or fertilisers because we want a well balanced eco system. But that’s our choice.
Everything we do is altering the natural process in the garden Mandy! It's very difficult to draw a line between what is natural and what is not. I am not a fan of using man made insecticides, fungicides, pesticides, etc. which kill everything. But neem oil is just about the most "natural" solution I've found! You can see a bit of the literature review I did on its safety in the description too. The fact that it only impacts things which eat your plants is such a winner to me.

What about black knots having dealt with aphids now with neem oil
I am considering a neem oil root drench for Echinacea ‘white swan’ to prevent mites from destroying the flower buds.
Ideas? Have you root drenched any plants? Yea or nay? Cheers from New Hampshire,Us zone 4.
Very interesting but I find the common or garden flamethrower works best for me
hahahaha I'm not too sure how well the plants would do after a lick of flame or two!!
Also spray the bugs and larva off plants first!
hmmm , does it really kill white fungus , i been spraying a couple of times , like no effect
How is it on treating powdery mildew ?? Using neem oil??
Didn't hear anything on that on vid??
Can't wait to hear back!!
Hello! Honestly it's difficult to say, some people say yes and other people say no! I think it depends on the type of mildew and the plant that it's growing on. I know that my spraying did nothing to deter the PM I had on my Courgette plants, but they are EXTREMELY susceptible to it. If you do use it specifically for PM then you should try and do it very regularly, maybe once a week, and it's always best used as soon as you see a problem starting, or even before, as a preventative measure :)
Good luck!
Neem oil is organic and natural and it does not have bad effects like you have of pesticides, they cause diseases, so I would recommend using Neem oil.
Thank you. Could I use neem oil before there's an infestation?
Absolutely! It works fantastically as a preventative measure if you know you're likely to be suffering from pests later in the season. I start treating all of my chilli peppers around April, before any aphid infestations can really set in.
Please tell me where I can get neem oil in usa
Thanks
Brilliant, thanks mate
Is it ok to use on leaf veggies? And safe to eat if I use it on leaf vegetables?
Yes but it takes a while until you can eat it or else you'll get the bitter taste. Still safe to eat because it's so diluted.
Hello Mr.
@@JBNat oh, thank you for a very quick response! Thanks for the tips. I'm watching some of your videos randomly right now. Have a good day
Hope you enjoy! I'm still on a bit of a holiday from it at the moment but I'll get back to making them soon I'm sure!
@@JBNat will be waiting for more updates
does it affect the taste of the salad leaves to humans too?
How did you liquify the neem oil? I bought the same one and it’s very thick and gloopy..
Neem oil solidifies at low temperatures! If room temperature is too cold for it, maybe you could leave it in the greenhosue for an hour. Alternatively you can put the bottle in warm water for a while, and it should liquify.
Mine solidifies every winter too.
Thank you!
looks like a winner
Will Neem oil work for carrot fly?
Is neem oil effective against black fly esp on broad beans?
In theory yes! I've never tried it myself but know some people have successfully used it on their beans. Good luck if you try it out!
is neem oil safe for our health as we spray it
If you're spraying outdoors there should be no issue. If you're spraying on a greenhouse it may be best to wear a mask but I've never done so and suffered no short term effects.
Good question!
We've a wild plant in Pakistan that's way more sour I taste then neem and it also does work more effectively the. Neem
We call it koar tumma
Thanks for the insect warning.
Giles!!! I thought I recognised your profile picture from somewhere 😀 I do recommend neem oil, it did wonders for me!
I use neem oil but it concerns me that products containing azadirachtin are banned for use in horticilture in UK. - Chris.
From the HSE ( www.hse.gov.uk/pesticides/user-areas/garden-home.htm ):
"Part of the legal definition of a plant protection product takes into account the intended use of the product. For example garlic extract sold as a foodstuff doesn't require authorisation under plant protection product regulations but garlic extract sold as an insecticide does. In practice this means a number of own use home-made remedies such as beer traps or coffee grounds fall outside the scope of regulations."
Interestingly it is approved as an insecticide under EU regulation 540/2011 ( www.legislation.gov.uk/eur/2020/1293/2020-12-31/data.xht?view=snippet&wrap=true )
So impressed that I subscribed.
Thanks for the knowledge, it is priceless.
I just used neem oil on my marijuana plants I didn't put the soap in with it but I got some on my skin and was worried about getting sick or something.
So long as you don't eat it I'm sure you'll be fine - people use it as a beauty product on skin & hair and stuff!
so what type of soap should we use?
Hello! Good question. I do link to a card for another video that goes into deep detail on soaps, but I know they don't work on mobile, so you might not have seen it. If you're interested the video is here:

You can also find a link to a castile soap in my description which I just added, and this should be absolutely fine for your plants!

Will need oil expire?
How come it says to test spray when my plant is probably the same as every other plant ? 😂 I just got cold pressed neem oil.
? Overuse or miscalculation of the mix can lead to damage
Really glad you found it useful! Hope you can get on top of them
Apparently need oil doesn't work on potato bugs because I've drowned my potato plants in it and my plants are still being attacked by these little bastards that are ruining my garden
Why does the mixture only last 8 hours?
do not mix the solution like this..u should be mixing the emulsifier with the oil seperately very well ..then dilute tht with the gallon of water into tht foliar spray
I mean I did display that on the screen and in my other video on neem oil! But the method I show in this vid does also work okay, just not ideal
2:10 😂💀
Absolutely do not use on ficus . You’ll lose all the leaves .
Are you speaking from experience? I had a quick Google and it seems lots of people have had success treating ficus thrips with neem? The first time I tried using neem oil I used way too much dish soap and that really damaged my plants..
@@JBNat my ficus deltoidea yellowed and Los many leaves , several other plants had similar reactions . Perhaps the dilution was off .
@@laxlvrfx sorry to hear that!
I use it works Great, thanks for your advice Colorado Silverback777.
thanks really good video, neem oil is amazing for bugs. You look like Russel Crowe xD :)
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching - although I'm not sure if being compared to Russell Crowe is a compliment hahahaha
@@JBNat Behold, a fitting reply from Sir Maximus xD ok thanks for the info bro ill check the link.
It stinks!
😂😂😂 It really really does
