The voice of Sandman is so dark and badass
I wasn't sure of the casting. I wanted someone older and more gaunt. But hearing him speak is pretty much exactly what I imagined seeing his dark wobbly text in the comic. He's done a great job.

@@rasmuspedersen3563 it’s because it deals with a cosmic being confronting the possibility that he’s becoming useless. Humans will sleep and dream without him so what’s the point of being the Sandman?
A show doesn’t need constant action to be good, it just needs great writing.

Tom’s voice is just sultry buttery yet raspy. Makes you feel many things. Yeah, he should voice an animal documentary or smth.

I could see him doing audiobooks. Too bad James McAvoy already voices Dream in the Audible version of The Sandman (but he also does a solid job).

Couldn't agree more. I was familiar with the Sandman but had never read the comics or other materials. The opening scene immediately hooked me in. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
The intro was when i knew! I was on my phone scrolling, but somehow this captured my attention.... U somehow watched every episode in one setting.

That dialogue -My creations don't walk among the living killing mortals for pleasure! With that voice the first sentence ....just wow...his acting was top-notch
God Morpheus’s voice is so soothing…but I didn’t know Tom Sturridge could go that low. If you watch interviews with him, his out of character voice is a lot higher pitched and softer.
Episode 5 was a fucking Masterpiece whole cast of that episode smashed it

It was good but some of the things the people in the restaurant did was weird. Beside that the emotions and tone of the episode felt like everything was out of touch.
Please netflix, don´t cancel this show. Could be the new stranger things.

All I need is to see the Shakespeare and Emperor Norton stories and I’ll be content, my two favorite parts of the series among all others, though they’re all up there
This is the kind of show that puts DC back on top of the pecking order: dark, deep, and beautifully cinematographic. The true essence of DC comics.

I finished the season already. Easy to see why Neil Gaiman was enthusiastic about it. Loved it!

Imo, this is Oscar worthy cinematography! The visuals are breathtaking.
It´s a show, so not considered for oscars. But emmy nomination. Shame that sandman was not nominated for any emmy in july 2023.

Agree this opening is a masterpiece. I'd never read the Sandman and between Sturridge's voice narration and the sumptuous images I was gone. Bring on Season 2!

Netflix already filmed the first spin off of sandman, dead boys detectives, a duo of characters who showed first in one chapter of Sandman.
If netflix is smart, could start a sandman shared universe, like sandman show aired in 2022, Hellblazer(Johanna constantine spin off), death spin off and Lucifer morningstar(the true lucifer from Gwendoline Christie).
"Dreams rarely survive in the waking world. Nightmares, on the other hand, seem to thrive there." - As someone not that familiar with The Sandman, this is an _awesome_ line to start the series.

Almost every night I ask "Mr Sandman, bring me a dream"... I get none. I fall asleep at 2 am, am up at 4 and then 6 and 9 and then full day ahead of me, incapable of naps. Rinse and repeat. Best of my dreams are me cleaning my home. With much more to do. Then I awake. Repeat.

Neil Gaiman was heavily inspired by the Belgian comic Olivier Rameau, dealing with almost exactly the same things. A dreamworld and the real world.

It’s a bit dark for me, plot-wise and actual values-wise too. But I’m still loving parts of it, and the characters. Even if I do have to strain to watch all those very dark scenes in the shadows 😂
