Than you brother !!! I just want to thank you, I’m a pretty handy guy, but for a long time , way over a year maybe 2, I couldn’t figure why my tire reset would not shut off in my 2013 Fj. I always did everything right. I never thought about the spare tire sensor. I checked the spare after watching your video and it was at 21 pounds. I put air in it to specs and the annoying light that was on forever went away, it was a great feeling and made my day. Thank you from Long Island NY !!!!!! 😁
I bought a 2012 today (11/19/22) in Raleigh. RR was at 18psi. Filled it to 32. Light stayed on. Drove 450 miles home. Never thought that the spare would have a sensor! Thanks!
Good basic information here- but one other thing to keep in mind is that some cars are particular about WHERE the TPMS valve is clocked on the mounted spare tire. I've seen RAV4's that illuminate the warning light when the tire is mounted incorrectly. What happens is the computer reads the correct wheel sensor then sees the additional one and gets confused. The computer program isn't able to discern between the mounted and spare tires and throws the light on. The FJ owner's manual may give some better direction as to what the correct mounting position is.
Great video again! Hey, have you ever thought about maybe drilling a hole into your spare tire plastic cover, installing a rubber plug, to make it convenient to check the spare tire pressure? Then you would only need to lift the soft cover in that area, remove the plug for a quick top off of pressure. Just an idea to consider, but then again, it would require you to mount and remount the spare the same way, and not sure if all the tire valves are exactly the same location in reference to the bolt hole pattern on each tire, if you rotated your spare into regular use in a tire rotation. So, maybe it isn’t such a great idea but something you could look at. I wish i had an FJ to come up with ideas for mods, much easier when you have it in front of you. Great video like always. I really like how you have pretty much a video on just about everything a FJ owner would want to consider. Thanks again, stay safe.
Thanks Mark! That's an interesting idea, but probably not worth it for me. It doesn't take very much effort to take the cover off, and it's something that I honestly don't need to do very often. I also know I wouldn't like the way it would look if I drilled into it anyway. Thanks for chiming in as always. Hope to see you in an FJ soon!
I recently had four new tires installed w/o TPMS. The tires are great and the tire light is off. That puzzles me because all four TPMS were removed. But I still have one in the spare. Why is the light off? Is it possible that the car is just reading the one spare tire?
Hi, I never saw that warning on my dashboard even when tyre pressure is 15 psi while off-roading. Mine is a 2013 model, is it because of faulty sensors or my FJ don’t have that feature?
As far as I know, even the earliest models had TPMS. Did you buy firsthand it secondhand? Do you have the original set of tires? If you (or the previous owner) ever changed the tires, the TPMS sensors should also be moved over to the new set. They are battery powered, so it's possible the battery of one or more units have died by now. Generally for a low battery, the TPMS light will flash, but you've indicated you've never seen it come on. My guess with the limited info I have is that you might not have them in your current tires, or the batteries need replacement. If that's the case you'll need to look into reinitializing the TPMS system.
@@LiL13izzy7 Thanks for the reply. I bought it Second hand. The car sold to me with a different tyre than original. I mean it was fitted with All terrain tires. Myself also changed the tires last year. But as I was not aware of TPMS I didn’t check if it was there or not. So where is this sensor situated on the wheels? How the locate it to change the battery.
@@binugmv8086 sounds to me that your current tires just don't have the sensors. If you Google internal TPMS sensors, you'll get an idea of where they're situated and how they work. They have to be programmed to the car's computer.
@@LiL13izzy7 Ya, Found out it is Radio Frequency. That how it talks to one another. Im just about to remove them all. No need for them. And in an FJ just annoying. As you inflate and deflate all the time. Going off road. Cold and Hot Climates etc..

Awesome, this is why I decided to make this video. Glad it helped!

Interesting insight, thanks for sharing!
I’ll try that next. The maintenance required came turned off on mine after I put air in it but the tire pressure light is still on .
WOW didn't see that one coming!!!! Thanks so much
Glad you found it helpful

32 or 35 psi?
Subbed as well!
Thanks! I've got plenty of other FJ videos as well! Happy FJ'ing

Even the Spare tire can do this!?! Are these all blue toothed or something!?!
There are internal tpms sensors in the tires, that are programmed to your car's ECU. They're definitely not Bluetooth.

Almost every time the tire pressure warning light it’s my spare.
Exactly!
