- Resident Evil Code Veronica is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom and originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000. It is the fourth main installment in the Resident Evil series and the first to debut on a separate platform from the PlayStation.
There are currently rumors of a Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake. The success of the Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 remakes give us hope that Claire’s game might get the same treatment. That, and the fact that Capcom recently let fans voice what remake they want to see next. This is far from a confirmation that a Code: Veronica remake is in development, but it also means that Capcom is at least open to the possibility.

I think Capcom is in a unique situation to get two things done:
1. Remake code Veronica as it deserves
2. Use the remake of code Veronica to write themselves out of holes that were introduced with RE5 and RE6. We’ll see

I actually like backtracking. It isn't the worst thing in my opinion. I don't care what remake comes next I just want it to Code Veronica, RE5, RE or Outbreak. One of those and I'd be very happy. I just hope they don't mess it up or anything.
Technically Capcom has been known to back track in the resident evil timeline, I mean they made resident evil outbreak and resident evil zero before they actually got around to making an resident evil 4 game.

I love backtracking. Especially when things change with the scenery. I think RE3 original did it first when you backtrack to get darios diary. Outside bar jack there's dead bodies along the street where there wasn't before

I liked backtracking because it made it easier to collect more items to survive with. Can't count how many times I've had trouble holding onto bullets
The only backtracking that sucks, is chris exploring the island- the chris part of the game.
what i like about code veronica is how they sorta sprinkle monsters /jump scares- overall it feels like RE1 on steriods. -like it was intended to be the last game.

6:46 That's true but CV should get remade first because not only the original needed a lot of fixing but it also follows the rivalry of Chris and Wesker from the REmake. So rushing their rivalry by remaking Re5 before CV is just unnecessary.

With that in mind, a proper remake of 1 (0 adds nothing to the universe but could be a cool DLC I guess) would be a good idea too.
Alternatively, remake 5 and do Wesker's death. Then remake and release 1 and CV (and maybe 0 for more Wesker lore), then have Wesker return as the villain in 9 or/and 10.

I can actually see the anxiety bar for code Veronica just because certain points of the game when Claire is entering certain places you hear her heart beat and let’s say she’s entering a room while you hear the heartbeat she also takes her time opening the door. So it would kinda make sense

M-Two... the company that was given creative liberty to literally butcher RE3, is now being handed Code Veronica? And we can expect a story overhaul? Just accept everything will probably be cut and re-imagined into another short RE3 experience. I am so nervous for this remake.

I’ll never trust m two after what they did to one of my favourite games in the series re3, I was heart broken when I played the remake because they butchered my favourite tyrant by not making him the way he’s supposed to look and act and a lot of other things and this is why I’m still mad at them, I’d rather see dev1 take on all the remakes even make another remake of re3 one day to make all fans happy
I like the anxiety idea. Imagine your anxiety level is high. Then you start to hear loud footsteps and BOOM! The MR. X starts to chase you. When you finally escape claire gonna realize it was hallucination. She see's specificly Mr x because the incident from 1998 was trauma for her.
Yeah i can rock with that. PTSD would be interesting to explore among the main RE cast. They already hinted at it with Leon in one of the animated movies.

I think as RE1 and RE0 are both relatively short games - they could combine them both (a shortened RE0 Remake as a DLC to RE1 Remake perhaps).
I don't think RE0 is worthy of a full blown remake on its own. Story and characters are insignificant.
@@samwize28 "Story and characters are insignificant". Then you make them significant...lol. That is the whole point of a remake. To do it again and (ideally) try to improve upon the original. That actually makes it VERY worthy of a remake. If it has issues and can be improved on, that is reason enough to do it. They can also add things to increase the length, or they can just keep it the same length. There's no need to combine Zero and the first game. In fact, there is no need to remake RE1 again at all. It's already been done, and it was great. Twice is overkill.

My only issue with a remake that changes the story to zero - is that (barring a men in black style memory wipe right at the end) there is no way in addressing why Rebecca is so clueless to everyone in RE1
I always thought they’d do 1 again, 0, CV then do 5. I’ll be happy with any because at this point it seems to be a question of which one will we get first vs which one will we get at all.

I've recently downloaded CV and have been playing it, it certainly shows it's age but the story is so interesting.

Code Veronica is one of the weakest RE games of all time though. As much as I’m not a fan of RE5 I think that would make more sense to remake than code Veronica

It would make sense for them to do Code Veronica next, as it explains a lot of Wesker's past before he will be the great villain in RE5 again. It would aslo be possible that they do 1 and 0 before 5 to expand Wesker's lore further and maybe even add his escape from the mansion which can only be seen in UC.
I agree, they need to do code veronica, 0, and 1 before they do 5. That way as you said newer players get the full story before playing 5, and also that would let 5 get a little more outdated so it actually needs a remake.

I love the variety that we've been getting where we haven't been playing the same exact game with every new release and I'm hoping that we see RE0,RE1,CVX,Outbreak,RE5 & RE6 all get remakes along with newer titles thrown in there as well.

If m two is doing it, I don’t trust them because they already ruined re3 remake and such so I don’t want them touching another good game that I love because I won’t play it if they touch it, I really want dev1 to work on it instead since they care for the franchise and care about the monster designs and such so If they push M two out the way like they did with the re 4 remake, they need to work on it to make it good then and get rid of the changes that m two made like starting from scratch

I hope a remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica is up next. I absolutely love that game. I bought a Dreamcast back in the day just so I could play Code Veronica.
favorite thing about code veronica and games from that age was how much the game didn't care about you, like there was the occassional hand holding but only if you read notes or picked up from subtles, but nowadays you just get the objective plastered on your screen.
I definitely want to see a RE Ø remake at some point.
Backtracking is a staple of the RE games. Especially the classics and remakes. Will be interesting how they handle the camera this time. Will it be an over the shoulder like the recent remakes or will it keep the 3D/floating/rotating camera? Interesting.
I imagine the story is going to be overhauled pretty harshly haha. Especially the villain stuff.
Code veronica is very good game, would love a remake. I have Many memories with this great game. This was my summer-game i always went back to on summer holidays when i was between 13-17 years old.
In a perfect ideal world, they would have released main entry remake> side entry like code v or the outbreak games > main entry again. taking time in between the main entries means they could learn skillsets and use new mechanics to add into them. but never the less i'm super excited for a potential 5 and even 6 remake more than I was for 4, because 5-6 has so much potential to grow and for them to change the tone more dramatically than the changes from 4-to rem4ke because 4 was already near perfection to most people meanwhile 5-6 had its flaws but the coop was amazing.

CVX and RE3 are two of my favorite Residen Evil games 3, 2 and CVX are top 3 and I am super pissed M.2 is going to ruin another one of my childhood classics. I played the originals on ps1 when I was 7-8 and still love them.
I so hope these rumours are true. It sounds mostly like a fans dream, but holding out that they set up RE5 remake properly by properly introducing the Chris / Wesker beef in the RE engine with CV

When I think of code Veronica I was thinking of a weapon upgrade system so I was thinking players could find 3d weapon schematics that can be crated at the machine to equip on the weapon and Clair for a parry like something in RE4 she would be able to throw her knife and retrieve it
If they don’t remake CV and skip right to 5, I would at least hope they’d port it to modern systems including PC. I’d be happy with being able to legally and easily play OG CV on PC

I hope this is true because I think the next game they should remake is code veronica. The news about the re3 developers is very concerning for sure but as long as the game is as badass and fun as a re4 remake then we should be good. I would expect new and remade locations and new mechanics. I think the game needs to address Sherry and how Claire is dealing with Raccoon City just like Leon. Wesker, of course needs to be involved and established so we know his goals and rivalry with Chris before RE5 remake. I also want Claire to get her own game like Leon did before they remake 5 or make 9.
Code veronica is DEFINITELY getting the RE3R treatment. Ive thought this since RE3R came out
I feel like Rodrigo as merchant could be a good iteration that would emphasize exploration. Rather than collecting some kind of actual currency, you could bring him various one-time goodies like cigarettes, medicine, drugs etc. to ease his pain and make his final moments less of a suffering however long he has left. in exchange he could trade those items for weapon parts, keys, tools, etc. TLDR i think if they would give him RE4R merchants trade mechanic treatment, it would be all we need.

I don't think the fans are going to go for the online co-op idea. Most gamers seem to be against the concept of co-op in a horror game. I always see the argument made that it's "not scary if you have somebody with you helping you out". I think that was just one of many reasons fans didn't particularly take to RE5 and ESPECIALLY RE6.
I don't think we need the original game to be remade AGAIN, though. The one we already have is pretty much perfect. Doing it twice seems like overkill to me. At that point, you're remaking for the sake of remaking and not because there's actually a good reason for it.
Honestly I’ll believe it when I see it. That is the best way to respond to any video on RUclips in regards to leaks on games tv shows or movies and books. My best suggestion is to wait until capcom releases information on it.
I want to see a Code Veronica remake. It's one of my favorites. I like the idea of an "anexity" meter or something that would effect say your accuracy or visuals. Sounds cool and something completely new. I don't like them just using stuff from previous games just because they were popular. The stalker enemy for example, we don't need one every game. Jack was good, Mr. X was a logical improvement over his original counterpart, Nemesis was an illogical downgrade over his original counterpart, Lady D was just Mrs. X (so she was good). That's 4 games in a row with stalker enemies. I don't know if there is a section 4 remake with a stalker enemy, if there is then 5 games. I'm fine with them expanding Rodrigo and Steve's stories, I don't think we need a merchant kind of shop though. Just stick to good old exploration. The anexity meter sounds like the most interesting thing the series has done in a long time. I hope that's real.
All I remember is having to start code Veronica over cause I had used all the explosive arrows and couldn’t beat the airplane tyrant fight. Probably still one of the hardest games I ever beat.
Save and use the 3 Gas Rounds (Grenade Launcher) for that fight.

mr x was very fun to deal with in re2
in re2 with proper planning, proper ammo management, and proper knowledge on how to avoid it, you could easily overcome mr x. for example in the library segment, if you push the shelves that dont require a jack, then use the jack (which spawns mr x) you could quickly move all of them at once and finish the puzzle before he can attack you... oh yeah grenades and shotguns work too but uhhhhhhh ANYWAY mixing the stalker enemy with the puzzles/items works very well and greatly adds to the game
also look at the latest amnesia game, amnesia: the bunker. that was a fun stalker enemy

I loved code Veronica one of my favorite games along with 1&2 the other remakes were sick so I gotta say a code Veronica would be awesome
For me tho I think really like the idea to add the sanity meter system into the game just like Eternal Of Darkness if you're remember that game. It's a great addition to the horror elements without trying too hard like RE8 on horror section. Using psychological horror elements blend into the core gameplay to make you feel the horror under your skin instead of in your face scripted bullshit. Also it's gonna make the game feel more survival and challenging too.
I like the idea of a sanity meter, but I don't think it shouldn't be in the CV remake (though I wouldn't be completely against it and think it could narratively work for both Claire and Steve). Could work for 9 or 10 if they do new characters, or maybe it would have been better for 7 and 8.

It'd be fresh if they add it in the newer installment (Which I obviously guess not 9 I think it's gonna be more action based) It'd works really well with the new or older character (who never fought, killed zombie professionally but experienced with terrifying stuff) like Ashley. And Imagine if they finally add Executor B.O.W into the game just to drain your sanity away that'd be the most terrifying resident evil game ever😂 'cause that bastard was really terrifying in that short film

We need a Code Veronica, 0 and 1 remake first before a 5 Remake. Why? It would build up Wesker as more of an antagonist than he already is. Plus, I'd like to see a modern rendition of the Spencer Mansion. There are so many new things they could do with the original game. Lisa Trevor could become a stalker enemy in the actual mansion.

In my honest opinion they've gotta remake CV before the remake 5 because the events of CV lead directly into 5 and the events of 5 will not make much sense without the context of CV like Chris and Wesker's rivalry with each other
i hope it is CV first because i own a ps2 but i wasnt into resident evil at the time and years ago i put it away somewhere and i cant find it and especially not to set it up for one game. so even though i wouldnt get to experience the original at least id be able to play it, and know why chris and wesker hate each other so much, since i already played 5 and i dont understand much of it
I haven’t played the OG resident evil games but there was decent back tracking I did in village. I enjoyed experiencing slightly different things in the environment. Although I didn’t get scared. Besides that damn baby, it is tradition for me to flip that demon child each play through. I have done that five times now.
That Backtracking isn't even backtracking the game linear with so little of it dude
The game featuring “Operation Javier” would be an amazing next game to remake / reboot because they talked about it in the story with Leon and Krauser and it is really old now or maybe it could be a great DLC after Separate Ways. Ultimately Code Veronica or RE1/0 deserve the REmake treatment. RE5 can come later, we need the backstory to the other games first to fill the gaps.
I know it’s said to take with a grain of salt, but if the anxiety feature is being considered.. it’s making me wonder if haunting ground is being considered for a remake or even a clock tower game as they had a panic feature that caused hallucinations and obscured vision. If this does happen to be real then they would have the groundwork built for this remake, kinda like resident evil 8 had a lot of objects and environmental objects that basically confirmed re4 remake before it was announced. It’s far fetched but I really want a haunting ground remake
A haunting ground remake would be cool and all but so many aspects of the story would most likely be changed to accommodate to the restrictions and stuff we have today , great game but the villains were like pyscho sexual serial killers and most developers just aren’t brave to handle that properly anymore
@@monte9235 as unfortunate as it is, I know. It’s a far fetched dream lol there was some the made a recreation of the bedroom from haunting ground in unreal engine and he said he’s planning on doing it himself but like many fan projects it disappeared
Back when this game was in consideration among the community for what we wanted as the next remake, I suggested they ought to roll CV and the original into one experience. My idea was having the CV experience, and when Chris eventually shows up, there's some excuse for Chris to recount the events of 1 to Claire to give her an idea of what's going on, giving the player the chance to see it from Chris's perspective...by having 1 given a somewhat abridged playable version in the style of the remake. It could work if they do it right, while satisfying the current remake experience for 1 without the need for a dedicated game, especially since 1 isn't necessarily a large game with it's focus on backtracking.

Yeah with dev1 making it to make us all happy by giving us the remake we all asked for especially giving us the nemesis we all loved with making him stalk us more than the original and making him scarier than mr x since he would have random encounters with jumping through windows and all sorts and Jill able to hide in things this time when she doesn’t want to fight him even allowing her to sneak around

Would LOVE a Code Veronica remake. I finished 5 and I liked it best for the couch co-op ( I don't play anything online and I can't imagine the remake would have couch co-op nowadays).
I got stuck on the plane tyrant battle in Code Veronica and didn't have enough ammo so basically locked my game, I did find the story and atmosphere really fun though, so I'd be more excited to get a modernised version of that game with new controls etc rather than a remake of something I can play anytime.
From what Disney has showed us, making anything for a “modern audience” is a complete disaster of an idea. I hate hearing that term so many reasons.. that all being said, when tf are we gonna get a Dino Crisis remake? The RE remakes are great n all but they need to switch things up to stay fresh in my opinion. Bring back some other loved IPs too!!
The stalker could be a cool way to use the anxiety system, when your in the same room as the tyrant your anxiety goes up and they counter this with being able to here his footsteps so you know roughly where he is

I'm so happy that a code Veronica could be happening but there is a problem M2 I do not trust them after what they did with the re3 remake it wouldn't be a surprise if they cut content on Code Veronica and that game mode when you beat the original game they're just going to keep cutting content again

Okay so since I played revelations 2 recently the comment you made here 5:03. It is true if you had T-Phobos in your body and you got afraid the virus would activate and spread through your body and you would mutate. And bracelets also you were right about. Alex Wesker told the survivors if they ever got too afraid they could mutate. And if they went red you were basically screwed.
Edit: So here is my take I think code Veronica should happen but after or to tide us over until the release of 5 remake. Cause I know 5 is action based but Uroboros is one of the best viruses in the series plus if they remake the Wesker fights and the others and improve them. Like they did with Krauser in the re4 remake I can see this game being a amazing way for new fans to play it. And I have played the original and loved it so it deserves to happen. But I will admit code Veronica needs some love cause while I have not played it. The ideas and plot and everything seems solid and can use a little revival.
I did try playing the first Resident Evil's remake. I just could not grasp the Tank Controls and Fixed Camera angles. I tried, but I just couldn't. So a third-person over-the-shoulder type of remake would be a godsend. That'd be the only way I could play it.
Imo they should go with Code Veronica first. The story is good plus it will be nice to show the new fans an update on Clair since they know the update on Leon. It will introduce an in game interaction relationship between the siblings Chris and Clair, it will show a start of a rivalry between Chris and Wesker. Also it will introduce and show the start of Wesker power and will pave the way for RE5. Chris and Wesker character development from Code Veronica to RE5 will be great and more understanding (example reason why Chris became the “hero” he is today and why he train to get jacked etc). Plus if these rumors are true then it’s only right to have the team that did RE2 and RE4 remake to do RE5 Remake.

I hope they don't add the anxiety bar. That sounds like more of a hinderence then an added feature.
They should stick to the orginal set up and definitely condense the insanely large and complex map/back tracking in CV.
I'd like to see more cut scenes with Wesker without forgetting that CV is focused on sibling love/loyalty (Claire and Chris).
I'd also like to see the parry options in Chris' campaign after you switch from Claire to Chris.
While I expect this leak to be fake, if CV does get remade, my big question is whether the Chris v Wesker fight at the end will be a cutscene like before, or will it be playable?
