    Had always wondered about this sciatica problem, always thought, "man people sure do complain a lot!" Then last week, ZANG!!, it clobbered me. Your video and others have kept me out of the ER, and away from the chiropractor. One other quick pain reliever is to take a really deep breath into the lower part of your lungs and hold for a few seconds, Doing this several times helped me quite a bit. And if there is one positive thing about enduring sciatica pain, you will have more compassion for your fellow human. For a while at least.

      What we focus on expands. Our thoughts influence our bodies. There are times when I've thought about pain (a pain that was not current in me) and it came to me. The more I focused on it, and/or removing it, the more it consumed me. In my experience in this life regarding pain, we can bring it to us with mere thought, or if it is already with us, we can let it go. Through thought.

    I've watched so many sciatica videos for relief and not one I saw explained exactly where the pain orginates from! My pain radiates down my left side exactly as you mentioned and when I say the "froggy" changed my life is an understatement! Absolute immediate relief! Side, arm up strecth also worked. I've always been focused on stretching out my side hip, not the lower back. Thank you!!

    Clear and concise. These methods work people. I used to get sciatica from bulging discs and these exercises gave me great relief a few years ago. Been many years since I've had sciatica but I recently got it again so I came on youtube to remember the exercises and found this new video. This video is even clearer and better explained than the great ones that helped me in the past. Good work Kristie and spot on.

    Omg, I have had 2 herniated discs for 25 years. I have been having chronic back pain and numbness my entire life. You did the exercise where you lay on your side and pushed your knee and arm gently forward. I copied that move. I never saw that one before!! When I did it, YOU FIXED THE CHRONIC BACK PAIN I HAD!! IT INSTANTLY relieved me of the internal tightness I couldn't massage away. I feel 16 again!! I am not kidding. What is that exercise called, and does that stretch the QR muscle??? I emediatly tried to figure out what muscle you helped relieve, and I think it was the QR muscle that can actually keep herniating my discs!! I think you just helped me solve my back issues for the rest of my life. Thank you. Seriously. After tons of doctors and scans, you saved me. Thank you. If you know the muscle and name of that stretch, let me know. I think it was the QR muscle connected to my L4 and L5.

Today December 17 I still could not lay in a comfortable sleeping position. Tonight when I saw this video I was in bed after taking hydrocodone 10mg & muscle relaxer I was still in great pain. Relax!
    I find that before I start a routine to stretch my back, I spend 5 minutes or so to relax my frame. I try to relax to the point that I feel 'paralyzed' from the neck down. It's a state of mind I put myself in. Once I get there, I start my stretch routine staying as relaxed as I can, with the idea that relaxed, my body is more able to be manipulated, which it is. If pain occurs, I relax even more, if possible, and the pain eases and my back pops, and my hips pop. If I relax after each move, when I get up, I feel rejuvenated, full of energy, and ready to go. I'm 76, and have been doing my routine for 40 years with great success. So I believe relaxing helps a lot.

    The biggest exercise for me when I was rigid and sweating with chronic pain was the surge of adrenalin in me that kicked a survival instinct in to life - that was to start walking. So step by step I started to walk and found after 30mins that the the harder I pushed the strides the more the pain was melting away. From then on I walked ,jogged and stretched and the pain went from level 9 to level 4 over 3 weeks.

    Must be around 15-20 years ago I suffered badly with Sciatica in my right leg, at nighttime the only way I could get some relief was to hang the right leg out the side of the bed. It wasn’t until I had surgery, by a marvelous surgeon, that I felt somewhat normal again, even up till today I am free from the pail. I can’t imagine any exercises could relieve the pain permanently, certainly makes life bearable, but if your nerve is being compressed, in my humble opinion, that compression will have to be released, and I don’t see any other way bar surgery. Be very selective just who you get to operate on you. I wish all of you sufferers the best and give some serious thought to what I said about surgery as a permanent solution to the problem.

      @@drkristieennis Thank you for the video Kristie! I will try some of the stretches. My left hip area was sore a year ago and had an MRI that revealed a Herniated Disc. Fast forward a year later...same issue on right side as I started to sleep on the right side. Both legs had tingling, burning . It must be sciatica. As a vegan, I already load up on B12 and other B vitamins. Omega 3 , MSM and Vit K2. The nerve issued calmed down but It has been challenging because I can not sleep on my left or right side and I am not a back sleeper. Tried that but I snore on my back and my body wakes me up to avoid chocking. So the highest the sciatica nerve extends is lower back? Sometimes I get this pain on the same left side in my back higher up behind the chest, maybe that's some sort of problem due to overcompensating because the pain isn't usually present as opposed to sciatic nerve problem which I can always find with a deep muscle massage. Thanks for sharing these remedies and relief stretches, doc.

    • @drkristieennis
      @drkristieennis  4 года назад

      You’re welcome! Different nerves start at different levels of the spine as nerve roots and then turn into other nerves as they branch out. For example, pain in the front of the thigh comes from a level or 2 above where the sciatic nerve starts out.

    I ruptures 3 lumbar discs so I know all about sciatica pain. Couldn't sit, lay down or stand. Walking was my go to. However, the exercises you list here must be common sense exercises because I've done them all based on, "Oh, that feels better." Slow stretching. A TENS device revealed to me how beneficial it was to relax the muscles through which the sciatic passed through or along. But you are right, my experience with sciatica has almost always been generated from the lumbar. I'm 72, run/bicycle daily now. I did not get the prescribed spinal surgery. In my case, I have learned to manage to be pain free by staying active. Sitting is the worst thing you can do other than improper lifting of heavy objects.

I no more experience hurtful feelings every time get out of bed. The situation of my knees has substantially improved ever since I started using this.

Considering that I am happy with the final results, Also I sent the guide to my mom and father. I was advised that they can`t imagine how good maybe it was. The perfect solution for lower back pain.. .

      Nexus Nostalgia:. A chiropractor can work wonders. I only go to a chiropractor who is recommended by someone I know or am acquainted with. Many years ago I went to a chiropractor for treatment of a very bad neck injury. I kept to the appointment schedule and the treatment made all the difference. Now I need to go for sciatica. It is not getting better on its own. I hope you find a good chiropractor and that you get tremendous relief.

    these are great tips - been doing these for decades, those of us who can't take pills were forced to rely on these methods to get by in life. We could have been opiate addicts but thank God our bodies didn't allow it... And we are old but in great shape now because we use these methods over pills chemicals and becoming couch potatoes.
    And they're not as big as a deal as they look when she's doing them - once you get them down they're quick. Habit
    Ice, heat, ice - work out enough to lift your entire skeletal system, keep it from shrinking, losing height, or none of this will work long term.
    As soon as our skeletal system starts to compress, everything goes out of whack.
    Years ago, I was facing deep poverty with four kids...(yeah child supports a joke) I spent 4 months rotating heat and ice on my back cuz I HAD to work and boy, did that change my life!
    Ice shrinks it back down, the heat relaxes things back into place, the ice keeps it there
    You don't need to be using freezing ice locking your back - keep bags of frozen peas handy. Work your way up to it - this really seriously works. Pills will just send you to bed, make it worse and you're done.
    Splitting wood, working in the yard, I will often have a frozen bag of peas down my back! I'm strengthening my back splitting wood, while the peas keep the nerves tendons and muscles from inflammation and in place
    If you have to use something for mobility to get around, try avoiding canes cuz they throw you out of whack, throw off your center of balance and the body will start falling into that bad compensation habit-
    stick to a walker at home
    or a tall hiking stick which keeps you standing up straight, looking forward
    Canes are the worst thing people use when they have an injured back. Especially when my sciatic nerve goes out.. it just pulls everything in the wrong direction, makes us lazier and worse off
    Stand up!

    @debabbott4429 3 года назад +1

    I just discovered your videos. You're so clear and supportive--which is most welcome. In the past 3 weeks I've developed a sharp pain in my left hip that I feel only when weight bearing (and not with every step). When I go from sitting to standing, my buttocks and upper back thighs feel like they're seizing up, cramping. It's not a sharp focused pain but broader. I have no back pain. I feel no pain when sitting or lying down; only when standing or walking. When I do your hyperextension exercise, it hurts along a horizontal ridge above both my buttocks. I've consulted with a rehab/physical medicine doc who has prescribed naproxen 375 mg 2x/day and icing and online exercises. He thinks it's trochanter bursitis, but our appointment was by phone, so he couldn't examine me. Do you recommend I do these exercises given my symptoms? (I know you can't give me a formal diagnosis via message, but any informal counsel would be most appreciated.) Perhaps you have a video that would be more appropriate for me? Thanks so much!

    • @drkristieennis
      @drkristieennis  3 года назад +1

      I’m sorry you are uncomfortable! It would be odd to have bursitis in both hips. Does it feel better to bend forward? I know the pain is in the hips but I would wonder if the back is causing an issue. I have a video coming out today on stenosis that might help you.

    No, you can't actually sleep in any of the positions doctors assume you can sleep, meaning with pillow between your legs or wherever else. They do tend to forget you're moving while you sleep, so that pillow may actually do more harm than good eventually, getting stuck underneath you.
    - The wall exercise works, I've did it many many times and it does wonders! You can even lift your arm that's against the wall to make more room for the hip arc.
    - On the chair, while sitting, also works.
    - There's also another move that works for me and I do it daily (at work!) is this ruclips.net/video/RC7ZseiQcVE/видео.html
