Note: the G-Shock was in a perfectly exposed setting and still managed to show off it’s luminance in direct light. *It took tweaking my camera and lighting* to help with the visibility of the Seiko... It’s the impracticality of this package that made me sell it and it sold *twenty-four hours later* cause folks’ll buy up anything this company puts out (myself included). This is not worth it at $300, at all, save up and buy an Apple Watch ⌚️ at that point. That’d be a muchhh better deal than this. Here’s the thing, I love Seiko and it’s up to consumers to hold them to a higher standard. Seiko, let me design the next one and fix this. Lowercase? Don’t try again. Sadly, just another cash grab.
Come on Patrick, maybe you should learn how the watch works before telling us how confused you are by it? It's not a smartphone,so it doesn't use temperature or pressure or electrical impulses. It's a simple shock sensor. You tap it, you hit it from the side, you flick your wrist with some gusto, and it works... the sensitivity setting helps too. Mine is just fine, and highly legible when it's dark.
This guy has no idea how the light works. It has nothing to do with the glass. The watch has a accelerometer. I clap my hands or flick my wrist and the light come on.
Patrick, the light works fine, maybe yours was defective? I'd consider a Casio GShock if there was one available that didn't look like it fell out of a Xmas cracker. I've seen better looking watches free with a cheese burger than any Casio They're all look like cheap kids watches If you have any suggestions please post them?
It sure does. I can’t think of a g-shock that takes the feel of a dive watch and functionality of the diver bezel and modernizes it the way this watch does. This is the watch that replaced my g-shock and still stays relevant to someone who mostly just owns automatic divers.
Well I think tapping the screen to light the display is absolutely brilliant! I really love that concept. I often wear gloves so that would be much easier than trying to press a little button. (also if you're not wearing gloves) But off course only if it works.........
After watching the review I'll wait for the second or third generation.... i still love the watch but they need to fix the light and possible they need to make it from steel like they do they regular tuna watch. Plus waiting for them to get rid of the negative display.
Not to mention that your fingers is directly over the thing you're trying to look at when you're activating the backlight, thus eating up some of the lighting time. And frankly, putting a traditional dive bezel on a digital watch is like having a tach on a car equipped with an automatic transmission with no manual shifting. Thanks for the great review!
Of course and *thank you...* Look, if any Seiko rep watches this, I’d rather they hear an honest summation of this model and make appropriate changes, then continue making this gar... watch.
This review has actually sold me on the watch. I think the negatives for some viewers will be huge wins for others. E.g., I spent some years in the military and a watch that remains dark and illuminates only enough to read the time is a benefit, especially when working in the pre-dawn hours. I also keep a watch by my bed and like to check the time if I get up in the middle of the night. I don't keep my iPhone next to me and most other watches are too bright. And while, yes, a lumed analog display works too, that doesn't take away from the practical benefits of this one.
I just picked up an alternative to this, Seiko movement, negative display, exact same functions: $39.99 shipped. It’s made out of Stainless Steel as well. I acquired it as a follow up to this review as I felt I should provide a solid alternative... If you’re sold on this, go for it! Otherwise, hang tight. I’m glad this model is appealing to you though. My biggest grief is the cost. They’re selling “the Tuna case.” That’s the only reason the price is so high. I could look past some issues if it weren’t so expensive.
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett makes sense. I think, however, that is not a fashion watch as you claimed, but rather a missed execution of what it could be. So all the critiques you had seemed to me like good ideas, and maybe they just dropped the ball after the design phase. Which, if true, warrants criticism, but of a different kind. Thanks for the review.
I had a GA-2100 "casioak" which I have swapped with this for 2 reason, one the main face on the G-Shock didn't have numbers which I'm normally fine with but when I'm under stress it annoys me and 2 I like the tap function, it works every time and if it's -10°c, pitch black and I can't feel my fingers or have gloves on pressing the tiny recessed button on the G-Shock feels like trying to shoot a basketball hoop blind and with arthritis while now I can just slap the hockey puck on my wrist and oh look it's the time in massive number, complete lifesaver and I'm really enjoying it.
steven uk1 I’m not sure how 300 bucks for a digital solar watch the equivalent of which G Shock sells with radio control to boot for 92 bucks :O this is even more than an SKX, which should be Seiko’s lower end price standard :/
As a g-shock owner and former fan who only wore a G-shock exclusively for years I view the SBEP001 as one of Seiko’s best watches. Why? It’s user interface, durability and overall design. G-shock makes nothing that can compare with it at the same price point. I am not a big fan anymore of any quartz or quartz solar watches but my SBEP or Digi-tuna watches are the only quartz watches that still occasionally (rarely) find their way on my wrist. Automatic watches provide for me much more joy of ownership but this design is unique enough to keep and hold my attention and affection. Could it be better? Yeah sure. The design has more than just a few areas of opportunity and improvement but for what it is I find it to be highly underrated.
Thanks for the review. Man I really wanted a good watch to replace my g-shock (been using it for 6 years, still working fine but got bored of it). I just want a monochrome digital watch with same functionality as g-shock but with simpler and more luxurious looks. I had smartwatches before (Samsung Gear S2 Classic) but never used it now since it's too troublesome to charge it everyday, but it does looks awesome and what I want is a watch with Samsung Gear S2 Classic's look but with monochrome display.
Why exactly do you say the case is "unnecessary "? When would that particular case be necessary? Also my light function works awesome. Not sure if yours is defective or you're not tapping hard enough for your setting
Great video, totally agree with the disappointing backlight, it's so frustrating. You can't adjust the time of illumination! Who cares about the tap sensitivity, it's not a smart watch where you are at risk of running out of battery. And, the bezel action, it's so hard to turn. I'll probably still keep it in my collection, only because it's a Seiko, and because I managed to snag the sbep007.
it is a very handsome watch, I was picturing a soldier wearing it in a modern war film or something. Unfortunately it is, by a long shot, not up to military standards.
9:12 They did that to appease the large wrist market since most Japanese are small and like a smaller watch. It is a removable case shell. This made it easy to increase case size without manufacturing a brand new case.
Mine cost me £193 (Yes i'm a Brit) so not $300, I dont like the negative display although I am getting used to it, Not to happy about the light function, bit of advice, it seems its acelerometer controlled, so you can turn the light on with a flick of the wrist as well as a tap, the tap works every time if you use your finger nail. I like the day and date being displayed and it also knows the number of days in a month including leap years. Although its made of some sort of tough industrial plastic, it seems very strong. I have over a 8 inch wrist, so it wears quite nicely. I will never have to wind this watch up or replace the battery(I'm 70 so it might be different for you) Do I regret buying it? No, but if I lose it I wont go chasing after another. I am now going to be looking for a similar watch with a positive digital display and a stainless steel body, is there one?
The tap will probably work like a fitbit or LG phones. It's picks up the vibration from a firm tap. They usually use a quick double tap to register and need to be on something firm otherwise very little vibration to detect. The system works very good on new fitbits and LG phones(Double tap for screen on)
Good to know that the watch shroud is plastic and not stainless steel. I believe Seiko produced some other shrouded analog Prospex solar field and dive watches with Lowercase. I also second that SeiyaJapan has great customer service. I’ve bought a few watches from them and had a great experience every time. Definitely recommend them as well as Long Island Watch.
I'm really not understanding the point of any kind of dive bezel on an LCD digital display watch. While we're at it. Why hasn't it got a manual wind crown with crown guards?
*Yet another,* huge design miss. Haha, I’m all about adopting forms, but if the functions of those previous forms see *no real use or actual implementation* in the new design? It’s pointless. This design is a shame... I can think of a hundred better concepts for a digital Tuna. This was a major cash grab for them... They were so much more innovative with their digital pieces in the past. Just look at the Seiko A829, with a bezel that actually interacts with the movement by adjusting modes. There’s no reason to make a Tuna out of this movement.
You're so right! They have made some genuinely interesting Digital watches in the past. As you say a bit of desperation to churn out a poorly thought out piece. I could even have accepted it if the display changed from a Digital numeral read out to analog hands. So that when you rotated the bezel to the minute hand it started a timer to that number of minutes. Maybe something like an OLED display that had analog hands in the shape of a Seiko diver with a butter smooth animation of the seconds hand sweeping around. That would have been cool. I know that might have impacted on price and battery life but I'd rather pay a bit more for something interesting and unique.
Thanks for the review. It's a pretty cool digital Seiko in a Tuna-style case. You forgot to scramble or make your "deep throat" voice when the lights went out and you went into the shadows... and perhaps a caption in the lower corner... "PAT" seikoholic I don't mind the timing bezel to work with the digital minute track. I suppose it's a little faster to quickly set a timer than to cycle through the functions. But, I get how it's a bit of a redundant system, also. I commented on other channels before, but I'll say here also it's like a modern evolution of the Arnie Tuna, but now fully digital... Which perhaps Seiko should maybe have instead updated and made a new ani-digi Tuna. If you're going to go lowercase, perhaps one of their limited edition analog solar fieldmaster tunas that they release late last year (2017) might be better? They're styled nicely and I believe notably smaller at about 44-45mm? Yeah, I don't see myself selling, replacing or augmenting my digital watch, a Casio G-Shock DW5600BBN-1 blacked-out version I already own, with this digi-tuna. For about $100, 1/3rd the cost of the Digi-Tuna, it does all of what the digi-tuna can or I would ever use it for in a much smaller package, too. I'll give the digi-tuna this much, at least you do not need special adapters to switch between strap options. But, mine already has the nato strap adapter and really I would only switch between nato straps on the G-Shock anyways mostly. That being said, I also agree, Seiko may have done better to a release new digital watch in a different and original style that could and probably should have been much smaller. Might have been more compelling reason to buy a new digital Seiko watch.
*Darn it!* You're so right, haha. That would have been hilarious. I'll need you to watch these in advance, haha. Look... I didn't mention the adapter business because *really,* $20-30 for end link adapters? You're still spending way under half as much on a *Casio G-Shock w/Adapters* than this *SBEP001.* Vario sells adapters *w/straps* that pair with your G-Shock. This is hardly a positive for the watch.
Good review 👏🏽👏🏽, although as a seiko fan I know that it's worth it, especially a Prospex line plus the last Digital seiko was during the 70's period and thire was no Casio digital back then, seiko did really well and it seems thy listen to the Fans for a return.
Hey! I tried not to be so brutal here... The Tutorial will be good for those who want to keep the watch, but I couldn't commit to this one, for pretty much all the reasons stated.

I caught myself "reading" SOLAR instead of 20BAR, time for a nap...
I think you saved me $300, Patrick. I'll stick with my G-Shocks and my 'real' Seiko's. Atrocious backlight activation for a very dim backlight, crappy for a watch in this price range.
Great, honest review. I couldn't help but think the same thing as soon as I saw this, in that I don't really see a market for it other than for hardcore Seiko fanbois who really want to have an all-Seiko collection at all costs. There's just really no reason not to buy a G-Shock if you want.....a G-Shock. Casio has pretty much perfected that genre. Also, 1,000 upvotes for Seiya as well. I have no idea how they can ship from Japan to Denver faster than most domestic orders I place. Always perfect!
Hahaha, I have been waiting on a domestic item for four days now, arrives tomorrow... No idea how sad that makes me. It’ll be a nice follow up to *this* Tuna... Excited to talk on it as it’s something I have wanted a long time.
I'm not a fan of *the price,* it's not worth $300. I can afford a lot within that range, so why stick with a watch that has a poorly implemented (dim) light, unnecessarily large form factor and is grossly overpriced? Yup, stick with the G-Shock.
Ditto, this is a fail on multiple levels even without the touch screen for the backlight(such a dumb idea). A real shame too because Seiko normally does a great job on just about every watch they release.
You said unnecessary a lot in this video. I agree this watch is COMPLETELY unnecessary. Doesn’t even need to exist. Still bought one tho. Lol. I agree with your assessment that if you’re trying to choose between this watch and a g shock you should buy the g shock. But for me, I have G Shocks. Wanted something different.
I have an alternative to the Digi-Tuna for you... Review goes up soon. Stainless Steel case, different movement (exact same features), Hardlex crystal, better design *(with “Light Button”)* and all for $40.
Fair review .A shame really, it could have been so much more .My digi tuna is a Casio MDV-701 it has a ratcheting bezel, moon phase ,tide time, temperature ,all stainless steel case and auto back light ,just lift your arm up to look at the time and on it comes ,they are hard to find now but worth it .
They are discontinued ,they come in 3 bezel colours black ,blue and orange, found it sitting high on a shelf ,box covered in dust in a small watch shop last xmas. It was NOS 100 usd.
The Tap to Illuminate works just fine on my DigiTuna. Sometimes a flick of my wrist will activate the back light. The timing bezel is also useful feature and I'm not sure you know how to use a timing bezel going by the way you demonstrated it. I do agree that it is overpriced and the Negative Display is a Negative.
I should have stated... It's not a labeled feature(?), but it would occasionally "flicker" on when I went to look at it; but also frequently when I had not intended to. Again, for some reason, the tapping always took me multiple tries. Also... What? *It records up to sixty minutes from precisely where the twelve o'clock marker is placed (normally the minute hand), but here in correspondence with a digital display.* I can't tell if the explanation went over your head or you're joshing me, but that's how it works on this model.
I like the look of the Pepsi model, but it's outrageously expensive for the quality. You can get a very well made G-Shock for that price, for example a Japanese square with a screwdown case back.
Spot on Patrick! Gimmicky, money grabbing scheme! Touch screen functions seem to fail frequently I own a T-Touch that lost most of its useless touch functions and now it sits in my watch box only because it was a gift from my wife for my birthday years ago!
Late to the party on this vid but I gotta say that backlight "tap" dance crap would drive me crazier than the Joker at the DMV! Thanks brother, definitely gonna pass on this one JUST for the backlight b.s.
*$300!* Just go to Vario and buy the adapter, haha. There are a number of places doing adapters. That’s barely a positive... Thank you for noting it though. I wouldn’t want to spend another dime on this purchase.
I just purchased this Seiko and it was delivered this afternoon from Japan. Your review was spot on. I didn’t realize it would be this difficult to read the time. I’m disappointed in the design and would return it if I could. Two Thumbs down 👎👎
Hey Patrick! Thank you for this informative video. I still bought one though, it appealed to me for some reason. lol. Anyway, the reason the tap function didn't work too well is because it should be worn. I think they made it so that it pushes against your wrist before it lights up. if it's on the table or just held on your hand and tapped, even in 1 sensitivity, it is difficult to light up. just fyi :) but great videos nonetheless! :)
I feel drawn to it. I like the look and size. I sold my Suunto Core Military in 2 days because I could not read it. Went running and I had to stop and turn it into the light correctly to read it. Dusk or dim light, forget it. Even the light on the Suunto was terrible. The entire background would light a little with the digits so the contrast was not good. I was very unhappy. I like these roundish military watches. Anyway, after that I swore no more negative displays. I still have a couple special Casio G shocks that are negative only. I sold my Rangeman, had a dim digit negative display, sold my G shock King Square. If I rebuy the rangeman it would have to be traditional LCD display. I just can't see. Some negative displays have a better color for the numerals and are easier to read. Red, forget it, too dim. Now that I read you had issues reading the display on the Seiko too, I'm going to mosey on down the road on this one. Thank you!
You might have gotten a faulty one, Patrick. The illumination is much better on other reviews, and works every tap on the screen. Also, you got an email add? Would it be ok for you if I contact some watch companies to maybe ask them to send watches for review?
I would rather have the “tap” be a battery indicator, maybe put that 60 minute scale to actual use and have that illuminate showing a *percentage of battery* instead of the icon at six. Also... That’s a stretch. Haha, as much as I’d like to imagine it’s a faulty unit, it’s not. All operations are fine here. The implementation for the light is awful... Especially if you hate smudges. My work *Email* is in the about section, but don’t conduct any business for me 👌 it’s appreciated, but not necessary. If there are brands you’d like to see here, simply let me know which ones.
Aren't their two types of lighting they use on these models. The limited ones are the darker grey/green look like this one and some of the others have a bright white backlight. It's what made me ignore this. All the ones I wanted had the darker backlight.
Thank you for that kind response, haha. The civility of your remark is very much welcome. I received a compliment when I had it out as well! It's not a bad looking watch, I just don't understand *why* they needed to use the Tuna design at all here or why this is a member of the "Fieldmaster" series... It's all odd to me. Glad you're enjoying the watch though!
Meh, non me va. With my delicate 6 ½” wrist I am not about to wear a 50-some mm watch. Biggest watch I have is my 3rd gen Monster and that’s pushing it. I do have my g-shock square GWM5610 BC-1 JF (whew)- the negative display atomic solar model with the black metal bracelet. For me it’s the perfect digital watch- perfect size, tough as nails, wearable and collectible. I’d get me another, the JDM carbon fiber version for about $250 way WAY before I’d buy this cartoon watch.
Thank you. I came across your review today and it has satisfactorily turned me off buying this watch.... and that's a good thing! For close to a quarter of a century Seiko has been producing quantity over quality time pieces. Design and function has taken the backseat for way too long and this watch continues with that legacy. While Seiko were a fine watch to own a long, long time ago, Seiko has done a fine job burning its once ardent fan base. My advice to anyone buying a Seiko is to never pay more than a couple of hundred dollars. For those that would buy a Grand Seiko over an Omega watch.... all I can say is you have way too much money for your taste. Seiko does not build it's watches for you to wear in 20 years time. They guarantee that by not producing core parts such as gaskets. My post is way off track when talking about this watch, or maybe it isn't. What really got my back up in your review is the build quality. If I can't get a Seiko watch water sealed from 25 years ago, how long a life can you realistically expect from something that is predominately plastic. Thanks for the heads up Patrick.
Mmm ..... when you don’t use the watch it is going in a sort of sleep mode.... tapping will not work.... push the middle button for the gmt function.... watch wakes up and tapping to light up the watch is working perfect!!! Little bit research can be helpful before rant
I picked up 2 G-SHOCKs last week on clearance. One was a mudman for $35. THe other was a little less and will live in a gym bag. I can say that the mudman can run circles around this. I'm leaving my Gravity Master out of the fight because it would be unfair to Seiko. (I wear mostly Seiko too) Good review Sir as always.
If you don't mind my asking, where did you acquire the G-Shocks? $35 is great for a Mudman. Was this local or online? Also, *thank you,* hope this helps steer folks in the right direction.
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett a local Walmart was discontinuing the jewelry and watch counter. I got 3 Casio’s. 2 of which were G-SHOCKs. Do you have an IG? I can tag you in the 3 pics.
Oh? Yeah. My dislike is just a matter of opinion: 1. Large, 2. Dumb Battery Icon, 3. Poor Use of Tuna Case, 4. Lack of Actual Features, 5. Poor Material Choice, 6. Dim Backlighting w/Faulty Functionality, 7. Overpriced, 8... I mean, am I the only one seeing this? Hahaha, suchhh a bad a watch. Anyways, I don't care what folks wear. This one's not for me.
Although I'm a SEIKO fanboy, this is quite substandard. It looked cool at first sight (before being told what its dimensions were), but there are so many similar looking watches on peoples wrists today anyway. The only good looking and (relatively) affordably Tuna-related release from SEIKO this year is the SNE498. Review that one!
Why had I not heard of these!? *They’re gorgeous.* Perfect scale, old dial is back (like on my SBBN015)... So much to love about these. Again, thanks for bringing them to my attention (the SNE498/99).
Woo, I’m glad you found the video! No idea how upset I was with this. I felt like a complete ding dong at work tapping my watch to read the time. I’ve never felt so absurd in the work place, haha. Glad I could help 🙇♂️
Digi-Tuna with an all plastic case and no clicky bezel doesn't sound great. This is so wrong to me. Pros: Nato-compatible, illumination, 20bar wr, design, functions.
You should try it. I dive, paddle and longboard. The silicone strap is something you'll appreciate. Durable and comfortable. It's a tool watch in the truest sense. I love mine, and I'm hard on my watches, from the ocean to the job site. The whole backlighting complaint? I don't get it. No, it doesn't light up like a game console. But it's way more than adequate for my aging eyes.
The tap feature, whether it worked well or not, is NOT for me. Dirty fingers, sweaty fingers, wet fingers, muddy, greasy, etc, will go just where you want an area to look clear and nice. Just stupid designing.
Haha, it and $500 more went towards something far better... Very happy I bought this because it convinced me to buy the *Tuna* I've been wanting for years. Couldn't be happier.
what a truly horrible watch! I dislike the Tuna case shape anyway, & this just looks cheap & nasty... Not in the same league as a G-shock, which are virtually indestructible & disposably priced & have more functions. Disgusting, wouldn't accept one as a gift...Seiko should stick to what they're exceptionally good at. But I did enjoy your review! Cheers mate 😉👍
I’ve never owned a g shock and I really have no interest in them at all. I’m sure they make for great beaters but I think they’re ugly as all hell and I just hate the look of a massive piece of plastic on someone’s wrist. But this thing makes g shocks look good by comparison. Seriously, why would ANYONE spend this amount of money on this plastic hunk of garbage when they could easily get a great looking quartz chronograph for the same price? Do you really need your watch firing off alarms throughout the day? If you’re just a collector of all things tuna, sure.. fine. But if you just want a good watch, this monstrosity is not the answer for anyone.
Which is the ugliest version, hands down. #PepsiPeople, seriously, they exist: hardcore, gotta have blue & red folk. The combo here is just awful to me.
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett honestly they (especially the Pepsi) look like cheap watches you buy on eBay like the cheap Casio range that look like g-shocks but aren't. Fail.
Well, I would rather burn my balls than wear that piece of garbage! Afraid seiko have lost the plot, my vintage seiko is a million miles better than that shit! What gone wrong?
Note: the G-Shock was in a perfectly exposed setting and still managed to show off it’s luminance in direct light. *It took tweaking my camera and lighting* to help with the visibility of the Seiko... It’s the impracticality of this package that made me sell it and it sold *twenty-four hours later* cause folks’ll buy up anything this company puts out (myself included). Here’s the thing, I love Seiko and it’s up to consumers to hold them to a higher standard. Seiko, let me design the next one and fix this. Lowercase? Don’t try again. Sadly, just another cash grab.
But it's cool, right.
Other reviewers show it clearly working, you either suck at it or yours is faulty..
Come on Patrick, maybe you should learn how the watch works before telling us how confused you are by it?

This one looks better than all Casio's however.

Davitamon it's the system used by Fitbit.
A quick double tap will turn on the display.
They look fantastic. Can't wait to get one.
After watching the review I'll wait for the second or third generation.... i still love the watch but they need to fix the light and possible they need to make it from steel like they do they regular tuna watch. Plus waiting for them to get rid of the negative display.
Positive display, light button, full metal and then *maybe* $300. Niceties like that would help this watch a lot.
The only critical review from my watch subs, and that too from a diehard Seiko fanatic. Thanks for this review Patrick.
Of course and *thank you...* Look, if any Seiko rep watches this, I’d rather they hear an honest summation of this model and make appropriate changes, then continue making this gar... watch.

I just got mine and I'm enjoying it.
The light should have a button or be more sensitive and it's a little big, but I like it alot.
Glad I got it.
Glad to hear it man! I’m glad I got it as well (as I’ll explain in a future video). Be well and thanks for watching.
Love that Digituna 👍
Why didn't you change the contrast level?
I agree with getting the g shock. Very well said.
I think the bezel is a great idea on this as you probably can't you the buttons on the chronograph function under water
I quite like it... I like the battery icon. Yes make it smaller! Also at $300 you could wear it as a beater and you'll never be worried about it.
steven uk1 I’m not sure how 300 bucks for a digital solar watch the equivalent of which G Shock sells with radio control to boot for 92 bucks :O this is even more than an SKX, which should be Seiko’s lower end price standard :/
Ahhh, yeah, that seems a keeper then. I initially wanted that model, but could only find it at around (and over) $400.
it is a very handsome watch, I was picturing a soldier wearing it in a modern war film or something. Unfortunately it is, by a long shot, not up to military standards.
9:12 They did that to appease the large wrist market since most Japanese are small and like a smaller watch. It is a removable case shell. This made it easy to increase case size without manufacturing a brand new case.
Interesting idea, very much in contrast with The Time Teller's review, would like his input as well, since he had such a different experience
Theres minutes marker which actually works like an analog minute hand... so theres a reason why the bezel is there in the first place..
I am definitely buying one of these in black after watching this video, seiko should pay you lol 👍🏻
Sarcasm? I *hate* this watch, haha. Thank you(?) though. 👌
Should’ve went with the blue Mini Turtle 🐢...told ya!
Hahaha, when you're right, you're right... I wish I did man, such a disappointment here.
Wow thanks for saving me $$$ Patrick!!
Hahaha, of course.
Thanks for the review. It's a pretty cool digital Seiko in a Tuna-style case.
You forgot to scramble or make your "deep throat" voice when the lights went out and you went into the shadows... and perhaps a caption in the lower corner...
"PAT"
seikoholic
I don't mind the timing bezel to work with the digital minute track.
I was considering picking one up but maybe not! Thanks for the honest review. Well done👍👍
Of course! Yeah... Avoid this one ☝️ There are better ways to spend $300
Good review 👏🏽👏🏽, although as a seiko fan I know that it's worth it, especially a Prospex line plus the last Digital seiko was during the 70's period and thire was no Casio digital back then, seiko did really well and it seems thy listen to the Fans for a return.
Thanks for the review.
Hey! I tried not to be so brutal here... The Tutorial will be good for those who want to keep the watch, but I couldn't commit to this one, for pretty much all the reasons stated.
I caught myself "reading" SOLAR instead of 20BAR, time for a nap...
Thanks! Digi Tuna off the list.
👌 Happy to help!
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett 👀👀👀👀👀
Thanks for the review. Good job. I'm not a fan of this model. I agree, just stick with a G-shock.
That already sounds worlds better. How much was it compared to the Seiko featured here?
Do you know if the shroud is removable?
I like the look of the Pepsi model, but it's outrageously expensive for the quality. You can get a very well made G-Shock for that price, for example a Japanese square with a screwdown case back.
Spot on Patrick! Gimmicky, money grabbing scheme! Touch screen functions seem to fail frequently I own a T-Touch that lost most of its useless touch functions and now it sits in my watch box only because it was a gift from my wife for my birthday years ago!
I can’t believe there was any hype around this... You’ll see a flurry more reviews for this thing. *Just. Don’t. Buy it...*
Late to the party on this vid but I gotta say that backlight "tap" dance crap would drive me crazier than the Joker at the DMV! Thanks brother, definitely gonna pass on this one JUST for the backlight b.s.
Yeah... Button = Better
You left out the most important feature: if you take it off the strap, it is a near 1:1 replica of a regulation hockey puck.
Incredible! How could I forget!?
austin cramer hahahaha!
Seiko Digital Tuna SBEP00 best watch in world, G Shock overpriced for features but it's tough watch.
Where did you buy the watch? Thank you
I believe... eBay.
This is a nod to the arnie h558, before the g shocks. I like the old one better though.
if it were 45mm id buy 2 of them
Nice enough watch..would I take it over my stainless steel cased pro-trek...hells no!
Great informative video. It's a no for me though. If I want to wear a digital, I'll go GShock every time. Cheers.
Hmm...😥 but you can put on a nato strap easily on the Seiko. 😊 You dont need this crazy adapter, the one you need for a G-Shock 😉
Two Thumbs down 👎👎
Aye... Well, if they remain as popular as they have been, you'll likely have no trouble selling it like I did.
Hey Patrick! Thank you for this informative video. I still bought one though, it appealed to me for some reason. lol. Anyway, the reason the tap function didn't work too well is because it should be worn. I think they made it so that it pushes against your wrist before it lights up. if it's on the table or just held on your hand and tapped, even in 1 sensitivity, it is difficult to light up. just fyi :)
but great videos nonetheless!
Thank you!
saved me some money!!
🙇♂️🍾⌚️
@@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett Sorry, you not save money, you LOST a SEIKO.
Fair review. I have one, I really like it and have received many compliments but you make fair points.
Absolutely love the battery indicator at 6 o'clock. But overall this watch is rubbish. I won't spend a penny on it.
Suunto Traverse Alpha......nuff said.
Is it me or did this dude made the impossible hand gesture at 1:08?
Looks like a good $100 watch. Good thing they are sold out, otherwise I will still be tempted to buy one.
Bleh, $85 maybe? ... But *$300?* No, no good.
Mmm ..... when you don’t use the watch it is going in a sort of sleep mode.... tapping will not work.... push the middle button for the gmt function.... watch wakes up and tapping to light up the watch is working perfect!!! Little bit research can be helpful before rant
Hate negative display although they look cool. Stick with casio or timex for now
I picked up 2 G-SHOCKs last week on clearance.
I do! I think you found me. 👌
Thanks again for another honest review! Jody from the time teller is going to be crying after watching this video LOL!
Oh?
*SNE498?* I’ll look into it. 👌⌚️🍾
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett Good! It's not out yet, but next month!
Why had I not heard of these!? *They’re gorgeous.* Perfect scale, old dial is back (like on my SBBN015)... So much to love about these. Again, thanks for bringing them to my attention (the SNE498/99).
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett You're welcome! Yeah they really look terrific, I preordered one.
And to think I almost fell for the black and gold one! Thanks Patrick..
🙇♂️ You are very much welcome. Let me spend money so you don’t have to! ☠️
I was still hesitating to buy, but now i watch your video and I decided to give up. Because it really doesn't feel worth it. Nice review thanks. 👍👍
Woo, I’m glad you found the video! No idea how upset I was with this. I felt like a complete ding dong at work tapping my watch to read the time. I’ve never felt so absurd in the work place, haha. Glad I could help 🙇♂️
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett
+the case are plastic, totally no need to consider. 😂😂😂😂😂
Digi-Tuna with an all plastic case and no clicky bezel doesn't sound great. This is so wrong to me. Pros: Nato-compatible, illumination, 20bar wr, design, functions.
Cons: Everything else, to include pricing. Not worth it when you add it all up. I own a Marine Master 300 “Tuna,” which is the right way to go here 👌
Makes me love and appreciate my Casio ProTrek PRG-600YB-3 even more. I love my Seikos but hard pass on that plastic tuna can!
I have a follow up review coming soon with an *actual* Tuna... So stay tuned in for that 👌⌚️🤤
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett can’t wait to see it. The Prospex Master SBDB013 is kind of grail for me
you took that one a bit personally
Yeah, cause I made the mistake of buying the damned thing. -_- Thank goodness it sold.
I have a G-shock Frogman and am a dive instructor in Florida. This makes me curious.
Interesting. Do you feel this would fit your lifestyle well, particularly in that if features an elapsed time bezel?
Avi Ratica love the frogman. The only g shock that for me has the pedigree to face seiko
I love this watch but to be honest you can get insanely amazing performance out of an $80 g-shock
I could live with all the issues other than the weak backlighting. 😨
Thanks for the honest review man! Huge props to you. I was wondering how this watch stacked up against the G-Shock.
Not too well, haha. I still own my G-Shock, but not this one...
I will be buying one,,
I can’t help that. I do hope you enjoy it though!
Seiko = automatic and HEQ Dive watches/Casio =G-Shock and digital watches.plain and simple.
Vostok is lookin pretty good now
Hahaha, I wouldn’t go that far 😉 ... Seriously though, $300? That’s fifty Voshtoks!
The back cover on this watch makes it look so cheap.
Pretty tragic, yup... 🤦♂️
Seiko should've stick to automatic and leave the digital to Casio
The tap feature, whether it worked well or not, is NOT for me. Dirty fingers, sweaty fingers, wet fingers, muddy, greasy, etc, will go just where you want an area to look clear and nice. Just stupid designing.
*Yup*
take that $300 to Jomashop and have a blast.
Haha, it and $500 more went towards something far better... Very happy I bought this because it convinced me to buy the *Tuna* I've been wanting for years. Couldn't be happier.
All those functions I can get it on my $45 watch. So what is the point in expending $300?????
That... Is sadly the point many are missing.
I like the watch a lot but the price it to high..
*Completely agreed*
what a truly horrible watch!
Hahaha, damn, you’d even reject it as a gift? That’s harsh. I mean, I’d find a way to slyly regift it myself, but...
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett 😂👍👍
relax bro...it's just a watch
I like g shock too, but cheap and nasty sounds a whole lot like most g shock offerings.
dave g dunno you can get a decent quality G-shock for £100 😉
You didn’t own the watch long enough to fully charge it. My FL worked much better when fully charged.
Love your review on this piece of trash! Will I purchase this one? I DON'T THINK SO!!
🙇♂️
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett, not sure I understand your reply. Elaborate.
I mean to say, "Thank you," and that I completely agree... But I already made the mistake of purchasing this...
Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett Ok. Sorry to hear you purchased that piece of gah-bage!
If you’re just a collector of all things tuna, sure.. fine. But if you just want a good watch, this monstrosity is not the answer for anyone.
this watch is really making me bi-curious....
Dollars to donuts the Pepsi version sells like a mofo.
Fail.
You forgot to mention that it looks hideous
Did I? *Impossible...* Yes, it is hideous as well, thank you for pointing that out.
Can't unsee how the battery icon looks. Ulk.🤮
I'm so, so sorry... I wish I hadn't seen it either.
Too subjective review. Why do you think that this watch is bad????
They can have my G-Shock when they pry it off my cold dead wrist.
Jeeesus, that backlighting is useless.
Yup, haha... It’ll do the trick, but it’s not comparable to my G-Shock (featured here).
So much negativity on this watch I hope it gets discontinued soon. The same guys will want it in a couple of years
Hahaha, not after that first experience. Going on a digital break from Seiko for a bit...
Well, I would rather burn my balls than wear that piece of garbage! Afraid seiko have lost the plot, my vintage seiko is a million miles better than that shit! What gone wrong?
Which vintage model we talking about? I’m looking to get a vintage “Gold” Tuna, 600m Diver. Rather put the money towards that.
