I like this song a lot. When the clapping starts in the middle of the song, I can see Floor clapping and ramping up the audience. There was as noted by others a lot of dislike of this song when it first came out. I think that has a lot to do with the unexpectedness of putting Troy on lead vocals... as if for some reason he should not have been there... that he had overstepped in being in that role. He has certainly led out before (first stanzas of My Walden sung in Welsh) and provided back-up on a number of songs, but this is his first full lead. I think some of the surprise has been that many placed him in a box as an instrumentalist where he is incredibly gifted... and perhaps in some still seeing him as a guest and not a full member of a band. Troy started as a guest musician with Nightwish in 2007, but he joined full time in 2013 at the same time as Floor. (You see the same thing with some treating Kai like a guest.) Troy and Tuomas have also done a lot of work together during their hiatus (side band Auri with Johana Kurkela) and I suspect that Tuomas has a far greater handle on the depth of Troy's abilities and Tuomas is not one to let any of that go to waste.
Toumas said this about harvest in the latest Metal Hammer magazine... "It's a song about laughing at death, The lyric is pretty grim and dark, but the music is cheerful and you have this long dance section in the middle. In this song you're dancing before death; You're smiling at the scythe"

Great comment @Sandra Nelson !The entire album, “braided” the DNA of all, around the fire in our hearts. Forever grateful for Tuomas and the muse of Nightwish, NOW.

WE are living life before our harvest...ARRIVE ALIVE.....live life everyday, you never know when your harvest will come!!!!!.....listening to the song in that context changed it for me!!!love it
I love your reactions and explanations to these songs Chase. No hysterics, no shouting. Just pure emotion, many times transmitted through the shine in your eyes. I have been following Nightwish for well over twenty years, and I still find myself surprised with their music. Thank you for your work.
This song is ages like a fine wine, rly. At first is kinda "oh, ok, this is a good song, is NW, is good music." But after a while it became SOOOOO GOOD, to the point of become a masterpiece. Tuomas, you're a genius!
I am enjoying it a lot!!!! It's true, maybe that's not everyone's favourite song but you can't but appreciate the genius. This album it's a quite bit criticized because it's outside from the usual Nightwish shape. But that's a very mature album. Here you can see Tuomas creativity evolving, growing hold, mature... you can examine one more time the complexity of Tuomas mind. His mind is splitted in many different genres and universes...then you add experience, will of try and explore new worlds and what it comes out from him never disappoint me... it's always well done, he makes you live the music at 360°, and makes you imagine what he has in his mind. Keep in mind that he is always....evolving! This is not an album for everyone. I like your genuine enthusiasm in your journey through the music and your open mind to listen, understand, and appreciate new things. This song remind me Last of the Wilds (from young Nightwish... that you should listen because it has a lot of wild Celtic vibes, that could be you ringtone!!)... but "Harvest" is with singing voice and is from a wiser experienced and more evolved Nightwish... I love it despite many hold Nightwish fan are disappointed... It's a pleasure to see the progressive evolution inside an artist mind. And he is still our Tuomas Holopainen
Maybe not the usual but it's not like they haven't gone this route before. My Walden has a very similar structure, and the instrumental breakdown brings memories of Last of the Wilds.
Harvest gets me everytime in Tears when the Chorus first comes in. And then Dance around with a big Grin the Moment the Instrumental Part starts. Love your Reactions and how they explain things i did not mention.
Hi Chase, I found Nightwish for me just a few weeks ago, for some reason I never was interested in them before. I have nor Idea why. But when I heard Floor for the fist time, I was blown away, especially from her live performances. And the energy the whole band has is just amazing. And thank you for letting me take part in your journey with Nightwish and putting another deep layer too their stunning music...
This is so nice to come home to. Saw this was due to premiere, although while I was at work, so I've been going around excited to see this when the day was done. I have no friends who listen to Nightwish, so it is so awesome to watch your videos and hear what you think of these songs that I love so much. Also, love to read the comments. I am henceforth no longer a silent part of the Nightwish Army
I would love to hear you listen through imaginaerum album from start to finish sometimes. The theme of the album is very prominent and it would be amazing to hear your critics even if you already heard some of the songs. Great reaction Chase !!
So many people put hate on this song and I'm so happy you liked it. I can't wait to see them live! I've got tickets for their show here in Brazil but it was postponed to next year. I just can't wait for next saturday because you'll react tp my favorite song of this álbum. So excited! Thanks for another great reaction!
I'm an old fan. I know and love everything they have made, I thought Imaginaerum was so good that it was impossible to beat, but this new album is even better, a work of maturity and subtlety. Nothing is spectacular but everything is perfect and in its place. As for this song, it must be amazing live, the middle section will slay the audience
@@ChrisPage68 Yes, and Music or Endlessness, but all that spectaculairty seems to have been distributed in small doses. There's no a Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth (well, probably apart from the second disc, but that's another thing). In this case spectacularity appears when you listen to the whole album, because the final result is bigger than the addition of tis parts
Love this song on a lot of levels. It's something of a thank you letter to Troy, who I think has been an inspiration for Tuomas since he started working with Nightwish. His voice reminds me of Brian May's; not something that gets the lead very often but is a breath of fresh air on the right song ("'39" is the one that comes to mind as a parallel to this one). "Harvest" has a lot in common with "My Walden" from the previous album. Worth checking out.
When I first heard this song I instantly fell in love with it, yes I'm part Irish and Scottish. This takes me back to Ireland every time I hear it. ❤ I love this band!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the insight again!! I love this song. It always makes me feel alive and makes me want to dance along. I also love Troy's vocals, I'm so happy he has his own song - the beginning of My Walden made me want more Troy and I was ecstatic to hear this song. :)
Yep, love it. "Brave" is absolutely correct for this song. Not only is this on the album, this was the second single they released, so they pushed it right out front. Love that. As usual, you do not let us down. Thank you Chase!
I liked this song the first time I heard it back when it was released. Good to hear Troy on lead. Plus, I'm a sucker for Celtic-sounding music. Nice going on the meaning of the song, Chase. As always, you understand the lyrics all too well! Wishing you a great weekend! 💗🤘
Getting to this one late after a very busy day yesterday, but it gives me a Chase double feature this Sunday morning. This was one of my favorite Nightwish songs so far. I really felt inspired by the lyrics and beautiful melody. Then the more rocking instrumental section was just pure joy to listen to. Great song and reaction. On to the new video from today.
Spot-on in your analysis of the song's central premise. The chorus, harmony reminds me of all the folk rock bands getting radio play back in the 1970s. 🤘 I'm also glad you addressed the issue of fans pressuring bands to continue churning out the same old same-old. If you're a fan, you want them to do what makes them feel creatively fulfilled.
This so much. Through the music and the visuals, I think of this as the most 'Englishy folkesque' of all of their songs. I want to know if some of the images are from the Lake District - which is a short drive away from Troy's home town of Workington. Living in North Lancashire, this song feels like home to me.
I can’t wait till they play this song live. I can see Troy bust out his pipes during the instrumental and going off while Floor dances across the stage. Gonna be epic.
One thing that’s great about this song is how well it ties into the overall lyrical theme of the album (wait till Processional, lyrically it’ll blow your mind, it unlocks so much of the entire album lyrically). Musically it’s a curveball but I’ve grown to love it. Great addition to their catalogue.
I know a lot of people don't like this song but it's one of my favourites. I love the folky flavour and that guitar/pipes melody in the instrumental section is so catchy. I can picture this one live as an "I Want My Tears Back" style dance, and can't wait to see it.
I really can't wait to see them perform this live. I think it will be phenomenal. Especially that extended jam session in the middle and just the vocal harmonies. It will be fun.
I always enjoy your reactions. You are so cerebral about your analysis. I love how you are able to hear and point out the nuances within the compositions. You have a deep level understanding of the art of songwriting and a sincere appreciation for the small things that make up the whole. Tuomas always puts so much thought behind every aspect of his compositions. Nothing is done without understanding the whole song and how it slowly evolves to keep it interesting and building towards a climax or resolution both musically and lyrically. I absolutely love this about Nightwish music. I sometimes call it music for adults, because of its depth of meaning. However it helps to be a musician or at least understand the basics of music to be able to comprehend the beauty and elegance of their music. Unlike some fans who just want their dose on aggressive metal, I can appreciate the deeper more intellectual concepts within these songs. There are plenty of heavy songs from Nightwish if that is all you are looking for, but art and life is so much more than just aggression. I am also a big fan of your friend Tank the Roadie. He is so much fun to watch. So much pure enthusiasm and love of music. I look forward to the next one on the new CD. "Pan" is one of my favorites and should be amazing when performed live. See you soon my friend. Peace, and you have a damn good day as well. Out!
Thanks for a great reaction once again. Was too late for the stream, but this song is so amazing. Actually Troy told Tuomas that on the original demo he received that the pipes was too hard to play...he said to Tuomas that 'how much salt water have you been drinking'...but this song turned out to be one of the most happiest songs on the album, don't you feel so good after hearing this song?
I had seen just a few clips of this song on IG...but there was no title listed. ( my first time listening to the whole song is Dec 29 2021 ). It does have Tuomas' creative hands all over the song...and I love this song! It's one I can sing along with....which is nice, since it's been over 40 years since I last sang in a traveling choir...and I kind of miss those days traveling with my friends! Thanks for the excellent reaction..
Many people said after hearing this song "it is nothing like NW has ever done before" ... when I heard this song for the first time I was thinking... "this could be called Lapi Lap Land 5" :D
This was the first song I heard from the new album. I was certanly surprised and confused. But, I love this - Troys voice is so pleasant and I love those folk and celtic vibes. And knowing what Nightwish could have been if they would have started with completely different singer, this is after all not so big surprise. Really nice and beautiful - and uplifting. 😊
Love your reactions! About the older stuff, one of the most beautiful from Annette's era is "Meadows of Heaven"...many interesting elements, please check it out (studio version)
I finally had the time to watch this. And i get so excited knowing whats next. One of my favorite bits of this song, is around 3 minutes in, the elongated chords the guitars are playing under the keys. Those chords reach my deeply
Awesome song, awesome reaction like always. I really appreciate your reactions, because they are explaining so well, why I like this band so much (even if I didn't notice these particulars). Thank you very much and: yes - so different but so Nightwish. And I love Nightwish for being this surprising and this brave. 👌✌
Great reaction to a great song. I will admit that the first time I heard it, I thought it was very different. But after a few listens, I could hear Nightwish and now can’t wait to see it live. Unfortunately it won’t happen in Toronto as the show got cancelled 😭. Love this song. Love the entire album
New nightwish fan here. Only got into them in the last 6 weeks. I've heard 1 or 2 songs from this album but after seeing some of Chases reactions I thought I'd hear the album first with him ( yes I know this is a 10onth old recording but the joy of RUclips means it is still like watching it with him) as I'm still struggling to get people around me to listen who don't know them already.
First saturday I've missed damn work. Harvest is a metaphor for death, for human growth how we all grow in life and return to the earth at the end, its a cycle. The song is born and it grows and it dies, the whole song moves forward telling a journey, passing on its wisdom, its so cool. Full fan boy mode for this song.
These are a delight. I'm so impressed with your listening skills. You've added so much to my appreciation of Nightwish with your knowledge and the things you're able to hear that I'm not.
Nice reaction video. Yes, I think most of us agree with your interpretation of the lyrics of the song. It's about living life and our inevitable return to the earth in death. Troy's Uilleann pipes are really the finishing touch on this awesome song.
As always, the weekly Chase/Nightwish reaction is one of the highpoints of the week. I truly love your reactions to Nightwish. I didn't think it was possible, but the knowledge you impart makes me love the music even more.
I picture you just before hearing the new song: Lets open this present and see what's in the box. Just like Tuomas as he imagined the possibilities when starting to work with Floor.
Hi Chase, Thank you for a great reaction again, much appreciated! What I also like is seeing your enthousiasm :). Just lovely! Quite funny too, considering your remarks when you did your first Nightwish reaction, where you mentioned metal wasn't really your thing. And here you are now, as a great fan of Nightwish (and rightly so if I may say so :)), and the best informed and informative reaction channel I have ever found here on YT! Thanks again! Kindest regards, Wim
Awesome reaction as usual, always look forward to Nightwish Saturday. I've not listened to the full album as I'm following your videos, love the breakdown of the music, it's so insightful and gives me a better appreciation of a band I've grown to love over the last few months. Thank you.
I love this song so much. I have a feeling one of the percussion instruments at the start is a bodhran - one of the instruments I noticed Troy is credited for on the album. I think this is one that is going to look awesome being played live.
Mr. Carneson, you have very, very good ears and some kind of highway from those ears to your brain. It still amazes me how much new stuff I learn from you, in songs I've heard a dozen times. Let's go for the 100K!
And btw, to another song on Troy on the lead vocals, try The Carpenter LIVE, from Decades tour. Is a goldie oldie that they had brought to life on the Decades tour, amazing.
I loved this song from the first moment that I heard it. It wasn't until the 6th or 7th listen driving around in the car that I realized, "Oh my God. It's about people. It's about harvesting _people_ ." 😂
The music "forces me" to enjoy life hahahaha ... I always ends dancing in the part where it's only music. I truly love the Celtic vibes this song has 😍
A wonderful song. It’s a Nightwish typically one... I can’t wait to have this live!!! There will be no one in audience who will not start to dance... Awesome 😎
In the ending of the first chorus, at the "water the field surrender to the earth" part, I would say that Marko is doing the higher harmony. It´s around 3:40 in your video. Also, now would be a great time for you to listen to Alpenglow and/or My walden. Both of them have the some folk music style in them and Troy does some fantastic singing and piping. :)
Just got back home from a weekend trip with friends. First thing I did - turned on my laptop, put on headphones and watched THIS. There, now it is time for everything else, but this comes FIRST. Never boring, never fake, always worth it
When I heard this on the release, I felt it was very much in the Auri wheelhouse with Troy on lead, Floor instead of Johanna, and Tuomas added bits for Kai, Emppu, and Marko to play, as well as Marko's vocals for backing . . . then it hit that breakdown and it felt more Nightwishy (totally a word), I liked it from first listen, though some when listening to the video release pre-album were a bit skeptical. After the full album, to me it fit even better, but I liked it from the get go.
This is my favorite song from the new album, and I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of it. The guitar riff during the bridge gets me jacked every time
I love Nightwish Saturday! Perfectly said on the brave part. Nightwish is always going to do their thing and not going to worry about conforming to any sort of expected standard. That’s what makes them so great and different that most other bands out there. People might not like it at first because it not he “normal”, but I think they eventually realize how good it is.
Love the way Thomas puts his lil’ “cheeky” pieces into songs. He’s a Genius...piano/ keyboard/ Synth’ so cool. This song is good for them ( love That Troy gets to sing). Great break down Chase...as usual!
Still going down this road with you Chase. I love it when you get so excited about something just kind of bursting out of nowhere. As always your breakdown helps me to hear everything differently. I was not quite sure if I really liked this or not, so I went back and listened again. I really like Troys voice very calming, will it make my play list, probably not...but if you figure out how to make it your ring tone I'm on board for that.
On Android phone (sorry but no experience with iPhones) the most expedient way I've found is to download music only of this vid to your phone using Tubemate App and use MP3 Cutter app to snip out the section you want as the ringtone and set as Ringtone in the same App.
This is my Fav song off the album. The first time I heard it fell in love with the music and massege. Lots of people the first time they hear it dont like it but this is pure Nightwish also keeps surprising the listener. This song is inspired by tuomas and Troy side project with Tuomas's wife Auri I think that's what it called. Lots of Tin whistle and ulian pipes all in the middle section.
Great analysis! I like this Celtic anthem a lot, because there are surprise factor (Troy), beautiful harmonies, energetic instrumentals and a nod to Jethro Tull. Thank you!
I had a hard time with this song when I first heard it, but after listening to it over and over I started appreciating the genius behind it. Loved your reaction and analysis.

Every single time I listen to their music I find new angles/details/joy.... Long may it continue!!!
At first is kinda "oh, ok, this is a good song, is NW, is good music."
But after a while it became SOOOOO GOOD, to the point of become a masterpiece.
@@SirKickz yes! It's true. I agree!
Agreed, this should happen!
I would say Shoemaker's denouement is spectacular.
I’ve only been listening since 2020, all the songs are written perfectly, but Imaginerum and HUMAN. :II: NATURE. are the most complete/ whole
I love this band!!!!!!!!
I'm also glad you addressed the issue of fans pressuring bands to continue churning out the same old same-old.
You are incredible Chase, I've watched a few of your reactions to Nightwish now and I love listening to your analysis. Keep on keeping on brother.
sounds simple. but isn´t. vocal harmonies are amazing. thanks for your reaction.
I love this song !
You know what this means? Pan is next. Can't wait.
I really can't wait to see them perform this live. I think it will be phenomenal. Especially that extended jam session in the middle and just the vocal harmonies. It will be fun.
I can just imagine him singing and them playing bagpipes like a brilliant musician he is. Very cool
And then where he switches from pipes to whistle and then back to pipes without missing a beat.
Soo in love with the lyrics in this song.
Join the harvest of hundred fields
Hearty and tame
All going back to one single grain
Many people said after hearing this song "it is nothing like NW has ever done before" ... when I heard this song for the first time I was thinking... "this could be called Lapi Lap Land 5" :D
This was the first song I heard from the new album. I was certanly surprised and confused. But, I love this - Troys voice is so pleasant and I love those folk and celtic vibes. And knowing what Nightwish could have been if they would have started with completely different singer, this is after all not so big surprise. Really nice and beautiful - and uplifting. 😊
Great reaction! This whole album, to me, shows how much Nightwish has evolved.
DARK CHEST OF WONDERS
Love your reactions! About the older stuff, one of the most beautiful from Annette's era is "Meadows of Heaven"...many interesting elements, please check it out (studio version)
Hey! Hi from Brazil 🇧🇷☺️
I'm glad for your reaction. Thank you! This song is absolutely amazing and i'm in love since the First time that I Heard.
Thank you Chase for another excellent reaction. I already loved this song but as per usual you gave me a few more reasons to love it even more.
Great video - I love watching them, they give me a rare chance to sit and just appreciate music. It's a gift that I'm very grateful for.
This sparks joy.
This song, for me, is to Troy what The Islander is to Marco. Lovely!
One can tell that Nightwish never cuts and pastes for each iteration of a chorus.
My personal favorite in the album. I just want to do the jiggle when this song goes on. And the song fits nicely to the whole album!
Glad you're enjoying them. Thanks for watching and supporting.
I have listened to entire CD already, but watching your reactions only adds to my enjoyment of the music. Great reaction and looking forward to more.
I picture you just before hearing the new song: Lets open this present and see what's in the box. Just like Tuomas as he imagined the possibilities when starting to work with Floor.
Wonderful reaction!!! Thank you for the insightfulness breakdown of mixing vocals. You always cause me to appreciate music more and more.
Hi Chase,
Thank you for a great reaction again, much appreciated!
I appreciate you and I'm all for team 100k
This one and Music grabbed me on first listen.
I bet this song will be fun to experience live.
And btw, to another song on Troy on the lead vocals, try The Carpenter LIVE, from Decades tour.
Is a goldie oldie that they had brought to life on the Decades tour, amazing.
I think Harvest is my favorite of their new songs and its certainly one I look forward to hearing live someday
I truly love the Celtic vibes this song has 😍
Thanks Chase, again!
Seeing you so enjoyfull and happy made me happy....now I know where to come when needing a happy moment.
Nice one. Glad it made you smile.
It's so good to see Nightwish can still bring that look of amazement on your face! Most reactors get a little jaded after a while.
This album is exactly what you would expect. Awesome and completely unexpected.
the Nightwish tree ... many branches .. i like that ..
Just got back home from a weekend trip with friends. First thing I did - turned on my laptop, put on headphones and watched THIS.
There, now it is time for everything else, but this comes FIRST. Never boring, never fake, always worth it
I appreciate it Paula.
The more you listen to Auri, the more you realise this album - and the progression of Nightwish - was inevitable. 🤘
It was same for me, loved it from the first listen.
This is my favorite song from the new album, and I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of it. The guitar riff during the bridge gets me jacked every time
I love the way it started almost tribal like but then evolved into a Celtic sound. I love the journey and the education
Thank you!
mr. grim reaper just keeps on harvesting his fields. make the best of it. it's endlesness.
I had a hard time with this song when I first heard it, but after listening to it over and over I started appreciating the genius behind it. Loved your reaction and analysis.
I like this song. And what a nice way to wait for the storm to pass.
That interesting compressed vocal of Troy's on the hundred fields bit COULD be singing into the pickup on the pipes?
