🔥🔥🔥 Thanks for this one. I was there, about 7 undistancing bodies back from front center. One of the two Nightwish shows I've been to so far and Sahara is one of my top ten NW songs. Since it is rare for them to do this song live, I was feeling almost like it was a personal gift. What a great night. Fortunate to be able to relive a little of it. ❤❤❤
I can't believe that with the hundreds of Nightwish reactions I've watched I'd never seen anyone react to this song before. This is awesome. I'd never heard it until today but am definitely going to check out the studio version.
Just discovered you after going through a lot of Nightwish reactors. Some for the joy on their faces, some are too full of themselves. As a non-musician, it grew too much with the singers who let us know every note, pointing out palate lifts etc., after a while it's deadening. And then the composers who have to play along, delineating every key change...like most of us would be so fixated on a note by note commentary or music theory! You on the other hand share our enthusiasm with your well-punctuated comments and insights, and of course we are just looking to see someone as delighted as we are! I'm old & ears are shot; can't hear some of it; but I still learn to enjoy my favorite band more through you.
Shara is a very overlooked song of theirs and one I love very much. Very happy that you did it. Great reaction as always. And the customary week 5 of me requesting Nightwish - Beauty OF the beast studio version.
Came back to this reaction/analysis after many months. It reminds me just what I am missing in the majority of reaction channels. Chase you are on a different level. So glad you are coming back after all your troubles.
Another gem from the Anette era. Something about Dark Passion Play & Imaginaerum is so one of a kind. They are really special albums sound wise. My favorite off Dark Passion Play is Cadence of Her Last Breath. criminally underrated
for me these were their two best albums before Human Nature, they were very consistent and a lot more mature song writing wise and sound wise. All their earlier albums were very hit and miss for me whereas these two I could listen completely through without needing to skip.
@@mnewm21 couldn’t agree more, very mature and refined work. And I think Anette’s voice fit perfectly with the sound they went with. it’s some good stuff!
@@mnewm21 could it be that in the case of those 2 albums, Tuomas wrote how he would without thinking on a type of voice in specific? And the ones where he had to write thinking on how better to utilize Floor and Tarja's voice as well kind of get in his way?
Yeah those two albums made Nightwish go from a band I liked to one of my favourites. I think the music is a bit more accessible than previous albums without losing depth. I'd love to hear Floors take on more of those songs, not that I always prefer her (although I usually do) but I'd certainly enjoy seeing what she does with them.
man i love this song. the version on dark passion play with anette is killer and i'd definitely recommend checking it out when you have time, but of course floor makes it her own and absolutely slays it in the process
Love that you finally got to this one. It's criminally underrated. Just never get tired of getting all the juicy tidbits you seem to unearth and allow us to have a bit more insight into the "build" of the songs. Super fun as usual sir!
Thanks for reacting to this often overlooked song. This song always reminds me of when I was a young boy. I was born and grew up in Gibraltar until I was 9. Morocco is only 13km (8 miles) away across the Straits and I have memories of sometimes picking up Moroccan radio and hearing these types of rhythms and vocal styles. Stay safe 🤘✌

OMG WHAT i literally replied to a comment in your previous nightwish video saying that this is my favorite dark passion play song and that i'd love to see you react to it because it's so overlooked I LOVE YOU SM, I CAN'T WAIT ❤ also, you should do "fantasmic". it's one of my favorite nightwish songs, but not that many people like it as much. would love to see what you think of it!
I adore your reactions normally! I have to say, regarding this song, the studio version is so much deeper with different instruments, choir lines, Anette's vocals and that ending, god!
FYI that cymbal Kai is hitting on those syncopated off beats at the end is a China cymbal. (The Splash is the tiny, gentler crash cymbal with a higher pitch and very short decay.)
Sahara's opening tones immediately bring me into Northern Africa and Arabian oriental atmospheres which are repeated further down in the song, especially Kai with the percussion, but also by Troy, Emppu and Floor's vocal style. It’s as of I hear an Moroccan women’s vibe and synchronized with that she dances that North African bellydance moves. The strophe "1001 nights unseen" seems to reminds us of the Shereazade fairytales. Is she talking about Ali Baba? Or more in general about the curse of a disturbed Egyptian graveyard in case of archaeological research in the Valley of the Kings. But who were the philosopher and the queen?
This song is inspired by the book “The One Thousand And One Nights” so you are probably right! if Shereazade fairytales are from there :))) edit: I just looked up the fairytale and i’m pretty sure you are correct! thank you for sharing!!
They used Phrygian AKA Arabian scale in composing the music , and that's the secret behind the ancient Arabian vibe , a lot of Metal bands use this scale because it sounds evil as well ..... and historically speaking , North African countries including Egypt aren't of Arabian origins and that goes for their people as well , the Arabs emerged from Yemen and then to the Arabian gulf and the levant ( Syria , Jordan , Iraq and Palestine )
@@alaaobaid3363 thanks for your comments. I did talk about the Sheherazade vibe not particularly an ethnically correct analyse. It seems that the queen even could direct towards Cleopatra and the philosopher towards Julius Caesar or/and the Roman general Marcus Aurelius. So if that will be the correct case, the vibe is still Middle East/North African in general but ethnically not quite historical correct. The largest ethnic groups in North Africa are Arabs, Berbers are considered the second largest ethnicity in north africa and West Africans are the largest ethnicity in the west and the Arabs are a majority also in the east approaching the Middle East.
@@papaverweg Like I said they aren't Arabs bro , they are the descendants of Hexus tribes more than 2000 years ago , and they are called Amazighes except in Egypt which they are the descendants of Pharaohs and their people , but that's just talking ethnically , if you go really deep into it , you might find the people in Syria , Lebanon , Jordan and Palestine are descendants from Greek or Roman people !!!
An urgent note referring the drummer: Kai fits perfectly in and always gives his best. He is well worth more attention as he bears bis part of every song in perfection :)
Annette's voice was absolutely killer on this song. Lots of folks saying it, and they right. This is a very underrated song. Annette is just too sadly overlooked.
Although I listened to Nightwish with Tarja and had the albums it was the albums with Annette that really got them into being one of my favorite bands. I wish there was a good quality live concert with her like the other singers, preferably from later on as the early live stuff I have heard with her was rough in places. That said for me I prefer Floor's Storytime but Annette does my favorite version of Scaretale. I won't say better since its a matter of preference.
@@101Mant I did watch 2 shows with good quality on youtube last year. One in a festival in France and the other in Serbia. I'll see if I can get the links 😉 I am a huge Tarja fan and Floor is amazing, but I just love Anette as well. Great person, great singer.
Fantastic reaction Chase. Love it. You have the most phenomenal reaction videos and the most detailed musical info of all the reactors I've seen so far (and I've seen quite a few); and I'm loving it. Just a quick injection of info: that Cymbal you were wondering about - the one that Kai hits on the off-beat - is a China cymbal; more specifically a Meinl 18″ Byzance Traditional China (he has 2 of them on his kit)... might be more of a TankTheTech kind of thing but I figured I'd throw it in there just for fun. ;) Again, great reaction. Keep up the amazing work.
Many moons ago, Chase, you said Floor could sing the phone book and you would listen. Here's Floor singing the phone book: ruclips.net/video/CLUr1DLwEQg/видео.html
Just watching their Decades concert in Buenos Aires, and it is so worth the watch! Maybe you could pick a song to review, or do a live chat with the whole concert. Keep on keeping on: the Ginger Snap crew is along for the ride!
I like the fact that it’s a kind of ‘dress-down’ Friday gig and Floor is just wearing what she might wear out to a wine bar, rather than the ‘Mistress of Pain’ corset ensemble she wears at Wembley 2016, or the Decades gig in Buenos Aries. Of course, she probably enjoys all the costumes, but this is a nice contrast.
Thank you for reacting to this gem!! Not sure if you have already done it, but for some reason this song (for me) always walks hand in hand with their other song called "Siren", it would be awesome if you could give a listen to it also!
Thumbs up for Chase! Hey, it's the shirt she wears for her Friday fan questions bit... maybe... Love this song, I haven't heard this version before. Exciting! I think Troy was using his ebow for this, taking the place of some of the orchestral parts from the original recording. Really cool sound.
I believe this is the video where someone commented on Floor's dancing, subsequent to which she said she couldn't dance, following which eight gazillion people complimented on her on her dancing. But I could be wrong. (Then there's always "I Want My Tears Back" from Buenos Aires 2018, so....)
Imagine that Nightwish would surprise you yet again with their musical direction within a song! :-) Great stuff! One of these days I hope you take a look at their song 'Creek Mary's Blood' from their End Of An Era tour! Cheers!
I love these reactions! Btw my suggestions are “Meadows of Heaven” (song with Annette but also a lot of backing vocals and progression) and then maybe something by Rhapsody of fire (they even worked with sir Christopher Lee, the guitarist Luca Turilli is a beast and the singer has a very peculiar voice, I think you would like them)
Troy's guitar was sadly quite low in the mix here, because he actually does a really nice guitar harmony with Emppu in the repeat of the opening riff (starting at 1:08 in this video). If you listen to other live versions of Sahara it really comes through. It's a real shame it wasn't as apparent in this video as I think it's something you would've picked up on and really appreciated, Chase. Harmonising guitars are a great part of the band's sound! He does some lovely melodic EBow work doubling Floor's vocal melody on the later choruses too, and replicates the outro melody under Floor at 15:15 then on his own at 15:37. He really adds a ton of good stuff to this song!
The initial keyboard effects reminded me of a circus calliope or tubular bells. A middle-Eastern power ballad. This song is becoming a favorite of mine.
I really love this song Chase! I am a big fan of songs that have an Arabian grove and allow you to play in the harmonic minor scales. I am not sure where Sahara falls in the set. I think the middle somewhere. Loved it Chase! Peace.
As a guitatist i say that Tuomas is smiling to Emppu for his "error"😂 in the opening cord (D# instead D. Cos opening is D F G# D# you can ear him switch from D# to D😂😂)
So, there's a song I'd love to see you react to. Unfortunately it's only a studio version as I don't think they ever played it live. "Feel for You" from Century Child. The way I put it in a comment once was: Listen to Poet and the Pendulum for unique song structure, deep and powerful lyrics, amazing bass playing, perfectly timed vocals from Marko, and goose bump raising moments. Listen to "Feel for You" for the same things if you only have 4 minutes instead of 20. As a plus, it's also one of the best 'Vampire' songs I've ever heard.
Ever hoping for a double reaction to Gethsemane - both Helsinki 1999 and Decades, Buenos Aires. So much to compare and contrast between the two performances. Good choice for Easter :)
Chase, you should do much more tran RUclips, RUclips and Tank( I online follow RUclips maybe are others too) are owesome, you really know how to present and Aldo hale that camera glue... It fitz you both....Best of luck în your good work. Keep it safe!!!
I've now been through 41 of your nightwish reactions and I've noticed that you haven't reacted any of the Century Child album. You've done at least 1 from all of the other albums and I feel you're missing out. There are great songs such as, bless the child, end of all hope, dead to the world, slaying the dreamer, feel for you, phantom of the opera and bueaty of the beast. Any version you like and any order you like. But don't miss out! Great reactions again Chase! 👏
No Chase...NO! Stop apologizing the pauses... pause more, teach me more about the music and structure of it. If people want to hear the music without the pauses they can go watch the original videos by their own. LOVE IT
Beautiful song, wonderful vibe this song has does it not? Musical genius is it not? As you say, NW doing NW things. Thanks for the reaction to this lovely song.
If there’s somebody on RUclips that has done MORE for Nightwish and their fans in their reactions than you (both in quantity and quality), then show them to me, PLEASE. Because I cannot think of one. One of my dark horse favorites; I implore you to check out Annette’s version now (if you haven’t already), I actually prefer it to Floor’s. Keep doing YOU, my friend. Absolutely. I love the live versions for the vocals and the embellishments they develop as the songs evolve. But I love the studio versions for how forward the symphonic elements are, and the orchestral tracks in Sahara are just phenomenal.

That "what was that?" look that Tuomas had at 4:05 was in response to Emppu's botched note at 3:45.
I've noticed his expression before but didn't think much of it. Now it makes sense, lol. Thanks.
@@eevee2512 That's why I love live performances.
Haha we all did!
Awsome, Loved this 😍👍
Ever hoping for a double reaction to Gethsemane - both Helsinki 1999 and Decades, Buenos Aires.
Would buy fan shirt : I go back to the beginning, you know how it works! Or maybe "wait a second"
However, lots of love to you.
One of their undrerrated ones! Definitely belongs into my top 30 Nightwish songs.😀
I don’t know if it’s just me but when I first heard song of myself it took me straight back to this song, like it reminded me of the melody.
I love Troy using E-Bow. it add such a cool sound
That moment when Chase says ,,i should have let it play out ..THEN DOESNT !!! ....LMAO
Emppu is possibly the most underrated guitarist in metal. The guys a little genius!
Versatile music and busy playing ... so awesome again and a bit different though. So sad that Marco leaves the band.
An amazing vocal cover of this song made by Yannis Papadopoulos, the lead singer of Beast in Black. It will blow your mind away.
Oh yeah! Another hidden gem. May I recommend Dead Gardens next?
Eeee, loved that one. Had not heard Floor doing this one, was one of my favourite Annette songs. Show me something Floor cannot do :D
We’re on this journey together, but it’s ultimately YOUR journey. Let it lead where you need and want it to, when you’re able, willing, and ready to. And those that are fans of Chase Carneson will follow. 🙏🏼🤘🏼
1:53 you nailed the pronounciation of Tuomas :D
A reaction to Eva and The Escapist would be awesome!
Troy puts plectrum under strings by neck and picks up E-bow for his lead part.
somebody asking where the emotions come about nightwish music? no not singer or anybody single effort. it´s coming about nightwish band. thanx to great reaction chase and have great day there.
Can’t wait for this gem! 💕🤘
What a great reaction again! I thought I subscribed to your channel when you did the reaction to yourself when you first did ghost love score. I saw the original as well. You're way way past my minimal requirement of 5 likes to subscribe. So here I am :D
Made it to the last Reaction Video ! Thank You ! Enjoyed all of them and looking forward to more . This was last March ? Busy eh ? Questions...what are the Headphones you use ? You seem to hear much more in the Music than I get through mine . Second , any chance of pursuing Interviews with the Band Members especially Tuomas ? Thanks again ./SRK
Regular headphones, nothing special l. Also you’re very kind and I’m grateful for your support
Chase I think for these classics you should react to both versions Album and Live! Just a suggestion I personally prefer album version
Absolutely. I love the live versions for the vocals and the embellishments they develop as the songs evolve. But I love the studio versions for how forward the symphonic elements are, and the orchestral tracks in Sahara are just phenomenal.
Couldn't agree more😍
I have no idea what the effect is called but the key effect Tuomas uses in older songs just does something for me. Not sure what it is but it’s good
