Chase, when you get to the 3rd track on this album, "Shoemaker", please be sure to do the research beforehand. It is about Eugene Shoemaker. You won't regret it.
If I'm remembering right, the beginning rumbles were the sounds of space, courtesy of NASA. Tuomas had asked to use it in this album. I remember reading about him doing that.
You’re correct! :) I find it such a cool detail, that they included the first ever kinds of sounds to exist - made even before earth was formed. The music of the universe
They do have a choir they work with regularly, yes - it's the London-based Metro Voices. They've worked with the band on every album since "Once" in 2004 so they're a huge part of the Nightwish history :) Edit: also, I'm fairly sure the layering in first vocal piece has three voices: Floor, Marko and Troy.
When you get to How's the Heart, they have an acoustic version with Troy accompanying Floor on acoustic guitar. I think it is a Planet Rock video. It's a great opportunity to do the lyric video followed by the acoustic stripped down version back-to-back, like the Spiritbox Rule of Nines reaction. Tribal is my favorite, very heavy!. They work with the same orchestra usually, I think it is in London. I believe those symbols are Human Nature in the oldest known language on earth, cuneiform, I think
For the symbols: Yes, Tuomas said in an interview, that the artist who did the cover art searched for the oldest known symbolds for the two words. And I think he also said the orhestra was the same, but they used only the string section for many songs, instead of the whole orchestra. Edit: Yes, same orchestra, but only strings and choir for most songs. Source, where Tuomas also explaines the concept behind the album: ruclips.net/video/ExLXzVmGCII/видео.html
Along with the Human and Nature symbols, the middle symbol on the album art :||: is a symbol that means a removal or a disconnection, implying a rift between humanity and nature.
Floor asked Tuomas, it’s beautiful but where do I catch my breath? It’s really nice but hard to sing, which she’s doing superbly again. 😍 The symbols stand for human and nature.
I think we need to keep in mind that many of us joined listening to to the Waken 2013 concert which was part of the concert tour for their 2011 "Imaginaeium" album. Tuomas wrote the music for that in 2009 and it was recorded in 2010. So as we listen to it we haveto keep in mind that that music is a decade old. Floor was not a part of the recording of it and it is phenomenal that not having been written for her that she carries it so well. The band then evolves (pardon the pun) with the "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" album which was released in 2015... and then this album "Human :||: Nature" builds on the revious one thematically but the sound has changed and grown again. This is not a band that sits on its laurels. I love the journey they take us on.
What I find really interesting is that the whole song is seen from the perspective of the music. That music has always been here and has finally become a part of us. Brave to compose such a song. But wonderful. The instrument you see at the beginning and in the middle is a lyre, one of the first man-made instruments, if not the first instrument. And the small pot next to it is the first song recorded by humans. This is how researchers found it. It was even possible to translate and play the song. A great song directly as an opener. and so much more on the rest of the album. it just gets better. Great analysis. I would like to hear from Nightwish several times a week. I'm sure there are several who would like that. Saturdays and Wednesdays maybe? But never mind. In Germany there is a saying: "Gut' Ding will Weile haben". That means as much as: "Good things take time". Keep up the good work :D
I was looking for a comment about this! It’s super ingenious and so typical Tuomas (and a very good way): Writing a song about the history and development of music isn’t enough for him - nooo, he gets the idea of writing it from music’s point of view, like it’s a living entity :) It’s brilliant, and gives the song a whole new dimension, when you know this
The lyre is by far not the oldest man made instrument. That would be flutes. The oldest ones were found in in Germany and are over 35,000 years old. They are also proof that the Homo Sapiens came to Europe before the last Ice Age was even over.
Olga Hein Yes, you’re right, ofc :) However, The Lyres Of Ur, shown in the video, *are* the world’s oldest surviving **stringed instruments.** This had been mentioned numerous times in various comment sections - OP probably just missed/forgot the “string” part of the information, after reading this information somewhere ;) Logically, flutes would of course appear as one of the earliest crafted instruments, since a primitive flute would be relatively easy to make, compared to most other instruments :)
@@michaellein2389 No problem, I think you meant to say what LilleMy wrote. Or that the lyre and harp are the oldest PORTRAYED instrument as of today (you know, on antique pottery from Greece and stuff, where the lyre was seen as the most noble instrument). This and that are completely different things though.
Lol! That moment when you accurately note that there hasn't been any guitar leads yet and then .002 seconds later there's a solo...that face like "why did I doubt, don't I know better by now" Utterly priceless, this is exactly why we wanted you to hit the new stuff, Tuomas goes full Pan on us all and teases and teases and teases this entire album. Hang in there man! Edit: so, the symbols. It's Cuneiform, one means "human" and the other means "nature." 👍
This album is the first one where they finally realized the absolute liquid GOLD that they had between Troy, Marko, and Floor, they spend a LOT of time harmonizing as a trio on this album, to brilliant effect. Also, something to be aware of when listening to this album, the name of the game here is: references. You'll see references in the videos, references in the lyrics, references in the melody. They do a TON of referring back and forth between tracks within this album, such as: the carved statue of Pan, the Greek God of creativity, tricks, and theatrics. Pan is also a track in itself. So, as you spend more time with each individual track, I STRONGLY encourage you to take some time to look back and forth, and do some research. Trust me, this album is a glorious fractal of lyrical density. When you think you've made all the connections that Tuomas and the other band members could possibly have referenced? There's not just ONE false bottom, there are three. Just like in the older songs, they WILL have references and "nods" to other musicians. Kai is a particular fan of the band Toto, and in one of the songs (I genuinely forget which) he rips a drum fill that is VERY MUCH in their style of drumming. References, man.
Great reaction! Warning: this entire album is as much a piece of art as it is a piece of music. Stunning. Also, the band talked a lot about moving away from backing tracks for their vocal layering, and instead using three part harmonies with their live vocals throughout the album. So, any voices you hear are sung live (other than the choir), and typically includes all three singers harmonizing (Floor, Marco, Troy). The talent is simply off the charts. Otherworldly.
If I could make an observation about your next song off this album, which is Noise. It's a music video this time, and frankly, it is so visually overwhelming that a lot of reactors have real trouble both looking at and understanding the messages while at the same time listening to the music and lyrics. A lot of them just end up looking dazed and confused, like they've been hit in the head with a shovel. Some reactors have done the song twice in the same video, the first time just listening to the song, and then watching the video. They are the ones who seems to get the overall experience best, so you may want to consider that. You are very astute in your observations and appreciation, and very well may be able to handle it properly in a single listening, but I'm afraid you may end up pausing every ten seconds, which may cause some of the more sensitive members of the army to go ballistic on you. Anyway, can't wait. Thanks!
I agree that seeing the video AND trying to watch the music video at the same time, might be overwhelming. I’ve seen several reactors not being able to focus on the music, because they got distracted by the visuals. Someone has already made a lyric video to Noise” here on RUclips (if it hasn’t been taken down) - perhaps Chase could use that for his analysis? It could be fun if he did a “double reaction” to the song - first to the song only (or the lyric video) and then to the music video :)
I'm kinda hoping Chase doesn't react to the music video version simply because it cuts out a section of music, but if he does then I agree with the double watch idea! It'll give Chase a chance to take everything in and let him point out all the musical intricacies
SunnyDaze Yeah, if I had to choose between just one of them, I’d definitely prefer the lyric video. But it could be fun with the “double feature”, just to see what he makes of one of their music videos, since he’s never seen one :)
Tuomas said this was the hardest track in the album for him: originally it was supposed to contain all sorts of music, metal, folk, soul... it was great in his brain, but when he heard it he called it pretentious - so as the maestro says: just because you can do something it doesn't mean it will end up being good.
Chase doing a Nightwish reaction... Chase : *Pauses and starts talking* Haters : You talk too much, bro! Stop pausing! Dude, you're killing the vibe! Chase : *Raises Have a Damn Good Day mug*
@@scottsmith4933 EXACTLY. Most of us don't mind the pausing. If they want to watch it without interruption, the official video is just one click/tap away.
"You talk to much", "You're pausing pisses me off" *triggered by haters' grammar* It just grinds my gears when people don't know the differences between Too and To and Your and You're.
👌 May be off topic but l just checked and was surprised, almost offended :) that there are almost no English reactions to hds Have you ever heard of HEROES DEL SILENCIO? They are a true Gem of a Band and the most famous Rock band from Spain and for good reason. Hardly anyone seems to know them in the English speaking world, which is such a shame! The singer, Enrique Bunbury, has a very expressive baritone voice. Great musicians all of them. Check out 'El espiritu del Vino' for starters- their best album imo. You won't regret this discovery. Quality is quality
Speaking for myself I click here to listen to your reaction/analysis so pause away if you want to explore certain pieces of the work. As much as a treat as it is to see the music performed live here you get more of a sense of what the band was trying to achieve by the atmospherics, the introduction of the choir, the flow of the composition. Really enjoy your reactions to all this music, looking forward to the next one.
I've been a Nightwish fan for almost 20 years now and so many of their live performances have made me cry during the years. But I'd never had that strong of a reaction to an album version. Until Music. This entire album is beyond beautiful and I'm so excited that you get to experience it now. It's always so fun to witness how a person falls in love with the band, there's no going back now!
Is it bad that I'm so excited for you to hear the full album that I'm wishing you would do "NW week" so we have the nw content every day lol feeling very impatient right about now, next saturday can't come soon enough! Great reaction as always, I'm so happy to see you enjoy it and appreciate the work behind all of it
The statue is Pan, the Greek God of Music. They mix up mythological references--in early Finnish mythology, it was said that the gods literally sang the universe into existence. That is what is portrayed in the song
And... Here's the link: Stargazers from Tampere 2015 (here you can hear Floor's more operatic register in this fast-paced guitarheavy song): ruclips.net/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/видео.html
Ok, I’m going to have to make another comment, since I’ve been through about 200 comments and didn’t see anybody give you this one geeky piece of information. Floor sings in this very different style on the new album, that’s very different than what we are used to hearing - and I must admit that it threw me off for a minute or two (even though I thought it was beautiful). As I’m sure you’ve noticed, she sings a lot of words in a very short time, and the sentences are often divided in an unusual way in relation to the melody. Also, as you commented on, her “vocal melody” (sorry, I’m no vocal coach) follows the “instrumental melody” much more strictly than it usually does. This way of singing is actually ancient, and is the oldest proper singing technique that we know of - and is also very hard to do (at least that’s what Floor has said, and if *she* finds it hard, it must be near impossible for us mere mortals, lol). I’m sorry to say that I can’t remember the name of the technique, and google was of no help, I’m afraid - maybe someone else can tell you it’s name.
My reaction when I first heard the album was "very different, but recognisably Nightwish". AIUI, every chorus on all the songs features all three singers - it was something Tuomas wanted as a part of expressing the meaning of the album.
Yesssss to this new Nightwish Journey!!! I have goosebumps for even imagine them performing this masterpiece album live!!!! Thank you Chase, for everything!! Looking forward to more Nightwish reactions, old or new!! just promise, you do them all ahah!!! Cheers!
Pip Williams also needs to be mentioned here, when it comes to choir and orchestra. He's producing those elements for NW and the keys for Tuomas. Pip is working with them since the album once and introduced Troy.
13:16 When the chorus starts for the second time you can see on the vid the oldest lyre that was found in Mesopotamia, The Lyre of Ur. And beside it a clay pot that contained the oldest written piece of music to be played with a harp. You can find that piese of music from yt. This is the perfect song to start the album of Human:|:Nature
🌟 Just WOW. Beautiful opening piece. Loved your breakdown. 💕 Thanks. 😎 Don't worry about all the start/stops. I did it, heaps. I watched it on my phone & I need new 🤓 glasses!! Very cool how, as with the musical content, they "layered" the lyrical lines to run across each fading previous one. I had to go over some a few times. I didn't want to miss one word. 🤗 Ahh. Talk about "feel good"!! NEXT.. 😍💖 BTW: ⚠️⚠️ REALLY LOVELY INTERVIEW MOMENT. I saw Tuomas being interviewed about how he felt when he first released the original framework of this new album to the other band members for their input. He said, with his sweet smile, that it was Very Scary & Nerve Wracking. Then, he was asked how it had felt when they all had loved it. With a huge smile, he closed his eyes & said "Beautiful." 💖 😄 💕
Remember, Tuomas IS the Devonian Sea. ALL of this comes out of his head. He understands that before we had anything, we had rhythm and percussion. Because we walked upright, to a rhythm. Our hearts beat in rhythm, we can breathe in rhythm. And under everything there is the breathing and heartbeat of that great ocean.
They've worked with the London Orchestra (and their choir) for over 17 years. On this album they only used the strings and choir, but it's still incredible. As for the harmonies with Floor, all the choruses have 3 part harmony so that's Marco and Troy you hear singing with her. When Troy and Marco lead in their songs, the other two are their backing, so all of them sound very full. It's incredible ear candy :D
ah it feels a bit like that album is made for someone like you who's able to really recognize and appreciate all those bits and pieces that album is made of, i'm so looking forward to join your exploration
I don't know why, but Music does something to me. It fills me up and just simply makes me cry everytime I hear it. If they open their liveshows with this, I'd be a very happy man.
Thoroughly enjoyed the music, two days until I have the CD and watching this only got me more excited to listen to it. I just loved every part of this. You reaction added to my understanding of the music, as always Chase, keep up the good work!
The first time I heard it, I really did not know what to make of it, it’s so different. But this album is an interactive album you have to listen and listen carefully and with focus. Then you start realizing what a masterpiece this album is.
It's so much fun to watch you react, almost like I'm listening to it for the first time all over again. Thank you for all the explaining you do. (And I actually prefer when you go back a bit after pausing. So frustrating when I know what's coming, but it loses its effect, because of the pause.)
Hi again! I know ur reacting to their newer stuff, but if you could please can you react to Dead Boy's Poem (Floor's version), you'll see a very different side of the band. Love ur content and as always hope ur having a damn good day!
@Chase Melisma (Greek: μέλισμα, melisma, song, air, melody; from μέλος, melos, song, melody, plural: melismata) is the singing of a single syllable of text while moving between several different notes in succession. Music sung in this style is referred to as melismatic, as opposed to syllabic, in which each syllable of text is matched to a single note. An informal term for melisma is a vocal run.
I am really looking forward to experiencing the complete album, that I've heard hundreds times till now, in a completely new way together with you. It's good to follow the album in the given order, as the songs reference each other as well from the lyrics and also from the music elements. You'll hear elements of "Music" in other songs again. Each song is so different and stands for its self but also they all belong to each other. It's going to be a constantly surprising journey through this album. It's also worth paying attention to the lyrics and the topics the songs are about. For each song there are small videos, in which one band member tells something about that song. Probably this will be interesting for you and maybe also a nice intro or outro to your reaction!? As you and probably as everyone I am so exited to hear and see this album live onstage. Especially the crowd while "Tribal". You'll understand that, by the time you react to the song and the video. ;-)
So, I've just spent the afternoon/evening/night watching your entire Nightiwsh playlist... and I had already watched all your Nightwish reactions before that. In fact, probably more than half of them I had watched more than once before watching the entire playlist yet again. I just love your reactions (in particular the Nightwish ones), always insightful and with great commentary. But I also love your actual reactions when you are awestruck, surprised or just the look of sheer joy at something you just heard. As long as you keep making these videos I'll keep watching... and as I've learned, there is a pretty good chance that I'll watch more than once.
When I heard the intro I instantly was transported back to my childhood, playing Diablo II. I have very happy memories associated with that game so this song makes me feel very happy. I'm grateful to the band for producing this music. Thank you Nightwish.
“Mature patience” - love how well you can put into words what I feel but can’t explain! That phrase really summed it up for me... but with smile and a sense of accomplishment. Thats how I listen to this album. 😁
I've seen almost no comments about the Celtic bagpipe-type instruments against the tribal African drumming. When I first heard it I thought that was so cool... or am I missing something... have I misinterpreted the whole thing? Another cool feature about the intro is how it ends in those few seconds of electric guitar (before the vocals start), finishing the cycle from the very first prehistorical sounds to the modern era...
Chase, one other aspect they you will probably like about this album are vocal harmonies. They said that during the previous tour ('Decades') they had a lot of fun experimenting with harmonies, and so in this album they reduced the big orchestration sound in order to give space to the voices (of all THREE of them).
I REALLY can't wait for Chase to do Noise. The way he analyzes and deconstructs everything for us will go perfectly with the visual and lyrical parts of that song!
So excited you're doing the new album! Pause as much as you want, Chase. We're here to hear what you have to say as well. I suggest you take your time to listen to this song more in your free time, there's always something new to notice. Like that Troy is singing there in the back as well. This album is certainly different - and it got a mixed reception. It's their most stripped down work in ages, but some people didn't like it because - according to them - there's not much metal in it. Well, to each their own. But if you're more open then NW is offering much more than a metal album with this release. To me it's their most "experimental", where Tuomas does things like a 7 and a half min long song with the first 3 min devoid of the band instruments and vocals. To me it feels like TGSOE (which is the last track on the previous album) matured and gave birth to 10 more songs. Oh, it's not by accident that 'Music' and 'Noise' are next to each other. Like someone suggested already, it would be better to do only the audio track first, there is A LOT going on in the MV. Take care and keep up the good work, man!
The spacy part feels oceanic to me : like bubbles emerging from the Earth's core [tribal drumming], all the way up through deep oceans, up to the surface - evoking mermaids too, as soon the choir begins. Thank you for your in-depth, never disapppointing reactions 👌
Hi Chase! Thanks for the reaction video! It was awesome! Can't wait for you to react to "Noise" in this album!! Also, I definitely think you'll like Hellscore's Nightwish medley cover: ruclips.net/video/LFvVahzlInY/видео.html I really liked the a-cappella arrangement they did there, I think it worth your react as well!
That synth part that starts at about 16:00 is so, so evocative of the band's very early material, like it could be bolted right into some song off Angels Fall First or Oceanborn. And I'm certain Tuomas did it as a deliberate throwback. It's a very nice touch.
Thankyou Chase I love this album it is a masterpiece cannot wait to see you reacting to the rest of it, it is different but at the same time so nightwish.
It is a beautiful song! Great reaction again!🌷 Oh well, none of us can wait to see this live! Let's hope soon 🙂 I believe all the vocal parts in this album are done by Floor, Marko and Troy exclusively. Correct me if I am wrong Nightwish Army
Been a member of Nightwish Army for only a few months, and am OBSESSED with them! This album is Phenominal, and its theme matches with Nightwishes evolution as a band/musical Titans. So glad I found Nightwish, their fans/army, and a few great reviewers to really blow open this journey of discovery! Thanks Chase, and the many fans who give us so much info on band dynamics/history.
It's important to keep paying attention to the theme of the album. This is about what it means to be human- in this case the very development of music. So the intro part represents music being born from tribal sounds to choir to... I think the male vocal on this one is mostly Troy, but it could be all 3 vocalists together. The album symbol is cuneiform writing for human and nature. Even in the instrumentals, Tuomas is talking to us.
Been following your experience with nightwish since Ghost love score. You look like a toddler experience candy for the first time :) Big eyes and astonished. We older fans still enjoy our candy but we know the taste by hart already. A bit more serious, its nice to see you appreciate Tuomas. Most people just get stuck on Floor.
Great reaction/review Chase! Nightwish always has been a 'thinking person's' metal band, but this album makes that point even stronger, and it's a grower, in that it grows on a person even more with every listen! I appreciate how well you understand the musical complexities on the first go, but I encourage you to spend some time with the lyrics on this whole album as well. Very interesting that this song was written from the perspective of Music, itself, and it's important to understand the role of Pan, and not just for this song! As always...enjoying the journey with you! Cheers!
Keep these lyrics in mind when listening to remainder of album. Emppu just plays what is needed in the song in regard to guitar work. Not sure if you’ve ever seen Eddie and the Cruisers II but there’s a scene where the lead guitarist goes off on this crazy good shred solo and Eddie(Joe West) says..yeah not bad. And then shows him that “you should kick it not step on it in a solo”. Make it something someone will remember. I know every note of his solos and guitar work...Ive heard a lot of great guitar solos but don’t remember each note on a lot of them but I do know his. That’s what impressed me with him.
Your smile makes me smile every time 😁 This album is a whirlwind, and the second disc is my go-to insomnia music to help me feel rested even when I can't sleep. Super excited to be taking this journey with you. Great, insightful reaction, as always. Thank you!
Thank you so much for beginning Human Nature with us. This album is my first new release with the band. The journey with fans of all NW eras in the lead up to to this moment, including getting tickets for NYC show, was and is so exciting. Seeing them live, is what we will experience some day. Until then, we have the album, the lyric videos and each other to prepare to be blown away in live version of the symphony of now. Q&A in a few. Thanks again.
Chase, you do an excellent job of discovering the structure of a song and how it is done and we love you for that. But this album is something special. Tuomas here tells us quite clearly, *why* it was composed composed this way, and they key is both in the lyrics and the visuals of the videos. Nothing is random there, and the album goes much deeper than only the music itself - as good as it is. I know it's probably impossible to do both the deep musical analysis you do so well and pay attention to the lyrics and the video on the first listen. So please do yourself a favour, watch it again, ask yourself who that "I" and "You" in the lyrics are and you will have the answer why the song was structured that way and what all the visuals mean. When I discovered that, it blew my mind. The only reactor who got it in the first try was PatrolGaming, but he doesn't go as deep into the music itself as you do.
Another great reaction. I love your technical analysis. It makes me hear bits that I hadn't noticed before. Like a lot of Nightwish songs you hear more the more you listen to a song.
Once again you bring something to the table and increase my appreciation for a wonderful song. Thank you, Chase. I wonder how the hell she'll manage to sing this one live, night after night. That melody can't be easy... and some of the other songs on the album is even more difficult, I think. Floor did say she was challenged in her singing on this album. You have something to look forward to :-)
If I finally can this experience live... I will need tissues. I mean, a lot. Because this hits all my triggerpoints. Musically as well as the lyrics, the combination will leave me as a puddle. Music is so powerful, music can lift you up, tear you down, plays with your emotions... sometimes I believe music is the only reason and excuse for the existence of mankind
Whenever they get to tour again, it should be sponsored by Kleenex. There's not going to be a dry eye in the house by the end of each show - in the crowd or on stage.
I waited with listening to the new album for this exact reason! Every time I saw a reaction, I was like, no. But today I was so happy! you are the right person to be listening this for the first time with. The spacy bit really reminds me of Bliss by Muse.
i am going to buy this when im able to the seemless effortless transitions with finland heavy metal with symphonic orchestral dual harmonizing between vocals and guitars and kai hahto drum work is just stellar floor's light singing the production with the sounds the instruments are making and then the vocals leading to the build up to the various beautiful peaks and valley highs and lows
Great insightful reaction once again Chase! Like others have said, read all the lyrics for all the songs as they are interrelated. For instance a couple of examples from this first song, just to get you started, mentions Noise and Pan two other song titles from the album but there are other Easter Eggs in there too for you to discover! As for the symbols, the top one is Sumerian Cuneform and roughly translates as Nature (in a Deity sort of way) and the bottom one is Assyrian Cuneform and translates as Human (Male, Child and Female symbol). Floor has had this tattooed on her lower leg! I was going to have it tattooed on my inner forearm but Covid came along and scuppered that for now!
All the other lovely Nightwish fans in the comment section have already told given you all the important details and bonus info, so I won’t just repeat those. I DO want to say that I can’t wait to watch this (and all the other tracks on the new album) performed live - on video, or at a concert, if the Corona gods will it. Nightwish’s music is ALWAYS better when performed live! There’s tons more energy in it, it’s often heavier and Floor’s voice is much more powerful - it will be SO epic :D
On this album, Toumas wanted to use all the vocalists so you'll hear both Troy and Marco joining in especially on the choruses so when you heard a male vocal underneath it was probably both of them.
"Very different" is kind of a theme for this record. Song to song, very different styles - musically - though still maintaining a level of connectivity. You're in for a treat.
Choir is "The Metro Voices" - arranged, orchestrated and directed by Pip Williams, London College of Music. Same name as on "Imaginaerum" and "Dark Passion Play" with many of the same people - Jenny O'Grady, Alexandra Gibson, Alice Fearn etc...
All members of the band have said in interviews that Tuomas in his composition of this album and he pushed them to the limits of themselves and their instruments , and they found out they had more ability than they though.
Ok, can we as the NightwishArmy just all agree to start calling bell instruments Mischievousness? 😂😂😂
Chase, when you get to the 3rd track on this album, "Shoemaker", please be sure to do the research beforehand. It is about Eugene Shoemaker. You won't regret it.
Ja zeker even onderzoeken waar het over gaat!!super nummer weer.
YES, please do ! Wonderful ❤️ Story behind the song ! Also, you may want to have tissues handy. Should be called " Shoemaker the Tear-jerker ".
Oh lordy I can't wait for Shoemaker and the ensuing Floorgasm
This ^ absolutly
If I'm remembering right, the beginning rumbles were the sounds of space, courtesy of NASA. Tuomas had asked to use it in this album. I remember reading about him doing that.
Interesting.
Yes, its the sound of the space!
You’re correct! :)
I find it such a cool detail, that they included the first ever kinds of sounds to exist - made even before earth was formed. The music of the universe
Interesting information, thanks :)
@@mateusxavier8805 that explains Chase's observation of it being recorded in 'a large room'... doesn't get much bigger so, well spotted that man!
They do have a choir they work with regularly, yes - it's the London-based Metro Voices. They've worked with the band on every album since "Once" in 2004 so they're a huge part of the Nightwish history :)
Edit: also, I'm fairly sure the layering in first vocal piece has three voices: Floor, Marko and Troy.
Yes!! Please, pretty please do both versions 🤩
Yeah, it's a really great, "this is exactly how we sounded at this moment on this day" performance. And it's beautiful.
Agreed! Double reaction would be awesome.
100% agreed! Chase, please do a double reaction to How's the Heart.
Troy does alot of singing on this one. One Symbol is Assyrian and means Human, the other is Sumerian and means Nature.
I totally love Troys voice. Especially on the Auri Album together with Johanna (wife of Tuomas)
@@krissypetak7832 Auri's album is really important to this one. I don't think HUMAN :||: NATURE would be what it is without the influence of Auri.
PageMonster Yes! I guess this is why some pure Metal heads dislike HN.
Along with the Human and Nature symbols, the middle symbol on the album art :||: is a symbol that means a removal or a disconnection, implying a rift between humanity and nature.
Those symbols are the oldest known marks this meaning.
Floor asked Tuomas, it’s beautiful but where do I catch my breath?
It’s really nice but hard to sing, which she’s doing superbly again. 😍
The symbols stand for human and nature.
I think in parts this album is giving the majoritiy of cover bands 'the finger'.
It’s super ingenious and so typical Tuomas (and a very good way): Writing a song about the history and development of music isn’t enough for him - nooo, he gets the idea of writing it from music’s point of view, like it’s a living entity :)
It’s brilliant, and gives the song a whole new dimension, when you know this
The lyre is by far not the oldest man made instrument. That would be flutes. The oldest ones were found in in Germany and are over 35,000 years old. They are also proof that the Homo Sapiens came to Europe before the last Ice Age was even over.
@@olgahein4384 Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the information.
Olga Hein Yes, you’re right, ofc :) However, The Lyres Of Ur, shown in the video, *are* the world’s oldest surviving **stringed instruments.**
This had been mentioned numerous times in various comment sections - OP probably just missed/forgot the “string” part of the information, after reading this information somewhere ;)
Logically, flutes would of course appear as one of the earliest crafted instruments, since a primitive flute would be relatively easy to make, compared to most other instruments :)
Lol! That moment when you accurately note that there hasn't been any guitar leads yet and then .002 seconds later there's a solo...that face like "why did I doubt, don't I know better by now"
Utterly priceless, this is exactly why we wanted you to hit the new stuff, Tuomas goes full Pan on us all and teases and teases and teases this entire album. Hang in there man!
Edit: so, the symbols. It's Cuneiform, one means "human" and the other means "nature." 👍
This is more of an at home listening cd. Where are the metal likes of romanticide and ever dream? Clever stuff but not for a live gig for me
@@davestewart5755 Did...you listen to the rest of the album?
@@TheJatonEffect yes of course.
Tuomas went totally Zimmer on this album and I think you'll love it! Can't wait for Shoemaker, Pan, Tribal, Endlessness... I'm hyped! 🤘🏻
And Noise, How's the Hart, Harvest, Procession 😂👊
@@AlvenmodFoto Literally every song is my favorite song on this album!
Spoiler alert....
The ultimate floorgasm song on this album is Shoemaker - I get full body shiver when she does the operatic part.
Tribal. Can’t win for that reaction.
Ow yes Chase beginning with Human Nature...🤘
This is going to be interesting 💪
Thnx already Mate! 👊
Thought exactly the same, I got excited when I saw this!
"Endless notes most purposeful" :D
Thanks!
Exactly my thoughts.
So I'd rather you wait for live versions from this album.
Oh ! Yessss! "Noise"....please!
Chase : *Pauses and starts talking*
Haters : You talk too much, bro! Stop pausing! Dude, you're killing the vibe!
Chase : *Raises Have a Damn Good Day mug*
Obviously the Haters don't belong to the Nightwish army!
@@scottsmith4933 EXACTLY. Most of us don't mind the pausing. If they want to watch it without interruption, the official video is just one click/tap away.

May be off topic but l just checked and was surprised, almost offended :) that there are almost no English reactions to hds
Have you ever heard of HEROES DEL SILENCIO?
Great reaction as always, I'm so happy to see you enjoy it and appreciate the work behind all of it
dreamer xx yeah, the same feeling here!
The statue is Pan, the Greek God of Music. They mix up mythological references--in early Finnish mythology, it was said that the gods literally sang the universe into existence. That is what is portrayed in the song
have you heard Stargazers?
you should definitely check Stargazers.
I think you would enjoy Stargazers.

I agree, it is an old Nightwish song, but you will really enjoy the song when Floor is singing it
Holy moly catching it 25 seconds after release! welcome to the new album! you're in for a treat and yet some more surprises!
I preorderded it! 🤣🤣 So I did the same!
Man, what a journey we're heading to with Chase discovering the new NW album, hell yeah 🤘
This is the perfect song to start the album of Human:|:Nature
they all three sings every chorus on this album - Tuomas H.
How beautiful can you describe how music came down to earth. This piece strikes me each time i feel it. ❤️
NEXT.. 😍💖
BTW: ⚠️⚠️ REALLY LOVELY INTERVIEW MOMENT.
If I would listen this like 500 times, still would not pick up the stuff you hear on the 1st go. Impressive.
Even the planets and stars have their own unique signature.
I have a big smile and happy soul everytime I listening this song 😊🎩🤗👋
ah it feels a bit like that album is made for someone like you who's able to really recognize and appreciate all those bits and pieces that album is made of, i'm so looking forward to join your exploration
I am so in love with the entire album. I got it the day it was released, and haven't stopped listening since!
When a 7 and a half minutes song feels too short, you know it's Nightwish :D Thank you for your reaction and comments, very interesting
You'll understand that, by the time you react to the song and the video. ;-)
I love that you're gettting more and more comfortable doing this. Yes for air drumming.
On this album, Tuomas decided to use the vocal of all three singers in the band Floor, Marco, and Troy, which is a blessing.
I love how this guy understands music!
For this album they practiced a lot of "back to basics" singing around a campfire. They are all so well connected vocally. Floor, Marko and Troy.
I cried listening to this song and the rest of the album. I hope you continue to enjoy listening!
Check the whole album eventually, so worth it.

@@ashleycasseus7841 Exactly.
They both have such an enthusiasm for music, it would be such a perfect Collab.
This song is the perfect beginning of the album. Not so hard, not so fast, but a perfectly balanced build up with feeling and meaning.
The spacy part feels oceanic to me : like bubbles emerging from the Earth's core [tribal drumming], all the way up through deep oceans, up to the surface - evoking mermaids too, as soon the choir begins.
Thank you for your in-depth, never disapppointing reactions 👌
I second that - that part (which reminds me a bit of Vangelis) has a certain "bubbly" quality that makes me think of deep oceans.

omg! i think you are first one that notice that heart beat... i have been waiting for this.
singing style is called Melissma i think.
this song is a set up for a whole album, that heartbeat goes trough every song. can't wait new reactions.
Great reaction again!🌷
Oh well, none of us can wait to see this live! Let's hope soon 🙂
I believe all the vocal parts in this album are done by Floor, Marko and Troy exclusively.
It’s a pleasure to hear you comment , you’re in for a hell of a ride....buckle up....
Appreciate that. Thank you
Once again you bring something to the table and increase my appreciation for a wonderful song.
YESSSSS!!!!
Whenever they get to tour again, it should be sponsored by Kleenex. There's not going to be a dry eye in the house by the end of each show - in the crowd or on stage.
The music is building upwards from nature sounds to more modern sounds and in the lyrics music itself is telling about its relationship to mankind.
This is my all time favourite song from the Human Nature album
This makes me happy. Can't wait to see all your reactions to this album! Toumas and the rest of the band really out did themselves with this one.
Great video Chase, have fun on this album journey, it's going to be faaantastic :)
I waited with listening to the new album for this exact reason! Every time I saw a reaction, I was like, no. But today I was so happy! you are the right person to be listening this for the first time with. The spacy bit really reminds me of Bliss by Muse.

@@ChrisPage68 I can't wait! But I will. 😉
i am going to buy this when im able to the seemless effortless transitions with finland heavy metal with symphonic orchestral dual harmonizing between vocals and guitars and kai hahto drum work is just stellar floor's light singing the production with the sounds the instruments are making and then the vocals leading to the build up to the various beautiful peaks and valley highs and lows
Chase: there is no guitar
The song: here we go
On this album, Toumas wanted to use all the vocalists so you'll hear both Troy and Marco joining in especially on the choruses so when you heard a male vocal underneath it was probably both of them.
Soooo Excited for Shoemaker & Endlessness
Man, I love watching people enjoy the music I love!
"Very different" is kind of a theme for this record. Song to song, very different styles - musically - though still maintaining a level of connectivity. You're in for a treat.
Fantastic reaction as usual , your break down always interesting....
Awesome. You’re going to love this. There are parts of this work that will leave you breathless. It will touch every emotion. 🤘
