    Thanks for keeping this very special camera alive. I’ve bought this camera 3 times and then sold it because online opinions and marketing of newer technology convinced me that this 16 year old camera couldn’t possibly give me more satisfying results than newer cameras, but then I gave newer cameras a try and was always disappointed when comparing their photos to the original 5D.
    I’m about to buy it again for the 4th and final time.

      Thank you! It deserves to be spoken about I think, it was a turning point in the early stages of digital cameras.. The simplicity of digital cameras from that time is so much more appealing than ten million technical gizmos to get lost in haha. All the best with your next 5D!

    I love my 5D Classic. Ive bought it for 150€ a few years ago and it never disappoints. For me it is the perfect snapshot camera for every occasion. I never shoot in raw. Canon pretty much nailed color science and everything else you need to take great pictures. No editing needed at all. Even with vintage m42 lenses this camera just rocks.

      Go raw, you'll never go back. Trust me. There's soo much more to be squeezed out of this camera's raw files.

    Don't understand why photographers are still in love with a sixteen year old DSLR!
    However, beginning to fathom now as I got one myself ten days ago! Have used 5DII and 5DIII extensively. But this one is special, so close to a film SLR. Just love it.

    I bought the 5D on a whim, mainly because of the price. I'd never had a Canon digital body (or fully frame) and I was curious...Well it's safe to say I fell in love and it's since become my main digital camera. I'll always have it with me. The pictures it produces feel so alive and so rich - I just love it!

    Some nice shots in there! Sold my 5d classic a while ago and got a 6d instead to get live view and better low light capabilities. Have to say that at lower ISOs there isn't much of a difference between the two. Highly recommend the 5d classic also.

  • @MegaSoundscapes

    Nice shots with this classic camera ! ... I've got mine 2 weeks ago and I am in love with the photos it takes, the colours are incredible. Most of my EF glass works great regarding focus, the EF 50 1.2 does not but the 50 1.8 is just fine.
    I took some shots with the 5D and the EOS R and the EOS R looks a bit "flat" compared to the 5D, straight out or camera. If I want to get the job done quick and reliable: EOS R, if I want to see magic happening: 5D classic. Propably one of the last bits of kit to ever leave the house again! Postproduction: if any: lift up the shadows a tiny bit, bring down the highlights a bit, add a tad of sharpening -> Done ...

  • @TheUltimateBlooper
    @TheUltimateBlooper 2 года назад

    I bought two 5D classics years ago because they're cheap bangers these days when you don't want your expensive kit around when out and about. While my 5D Mark IV is obviously technically far superior (and is still the obvious choice when on the job) - the 5D classics are a simple joy to use daily and, dare I say it, more fun! Plus the limitations in cropping and file pushing really make you a better photographer, because you have to nail it in the camera, rather than "fix it in post" for the most part. But even then, coupled with modern RAW editing advancements and AI upscaling/sharpening - the 5D can deliver insane results for its age and price. Highly recommended!

    • @KimHojbergJensen
      @KimHojbergJensen Год назад +1

      @@alwynsmit3546 I think they are both great. The benefit for me, regarding the 5d, is that I have the 24-120mm f4 lens for Canon. It is one of my favourite lenses. I have more Nikon lenses than Canon, but not the 24-120 f4. That is the disadvantage of spreading over many brands.

    The best old cameras, like the 5D, have going for them is relatively old school color science, big pixels, small files and simplicity. However for someone starting to get into the hobby it would be better to aim for early mirrorless full frame like a A7. You can learn in a more interactive way with a more powerful tool without breaking the bank. I owned a 5D when it was new, I own one again that I picked up for €130,- about a year ago. Time moves on, it is a nice camera, but a lot of nostalgia pink glasses with the old gear love stories.

    • @freemanchrisx
      @freemanchrisx Год назад

      Images out of the 5D blow away anything out of the A7, trying to convince yourself otherwise is pure delusion.

    Ok but what about the repair? I just bought a used 5D and I'm hoping it will last as long as possible ... but I'm already changing my mind about the purchase because when it breaks I won't be able to repair it because repair centers certainly don't have spare parts.

    • @negativemob5545
      @negativemob5545  2 года назад +1

      It’s a personal choice but I’d be happy to just buy another cheap second-hand one if mine failed, the body only cost me £180 so it’s not the end of the world lol

    • @TheDavveponken
      @TheDavveponken 2 года назад

      Honestly it won't be long before that'll be the case no matter what camera you chose to go with (unless you buy it new). I think you still can get then adjusted and whatnot. Getting one today, you'll probably get away cheaper with getting a new one if you have to repair it. What I'm worried about though is the supply of batteries, but for now (and with it's resurgence in popularity) there seems to be steady suppliers that make their own.
      I'm looking to the 5dsr for my next camera when my current 5d gives out. It seems the colours are quite similar, given the, in effect, none existant low pass filter. But I'll probably croke before my cameras do.

    • @freemanchrisx
      @freemanchrisx Год назад
