  • This is the step by step process for removing and repairing the rusted frame-rail of the AMMO Porsche 964. J&B Bodyworks in Mt. Vernon, NY performed the work in early 2017. (if you don't like rust...look away! LOL)

    Extensive surgery is an understatement here! Wow, I remember having some simple fender work done on a car a few years ago and it wasn't until they opened it up to reveal a much larger mess. So heart braking! I'm thoroughly impressed by their work here. Seems like you guys are two peas from the same pod. Attention to detail and skill here is unbelievable!

      Tehgziz Lauw a Porsche replacement roof is probably a fortune by itself. Porsche parts are not cheap. And most places charge 100 an hour now in labor. Which backed in this location and the high money cars there I bet it's about that much. He said he had well over 750 man hours in this car so what's that add up to in labor by itself excluding parts and materials used? 75,000 ish

    It is so pleasant to see this kind of craftmanship. An it ALWAYS happens Larry that you see a tiny spot outside but when you work your way into more intrincate places... it´s all rusted past the point of salvation. Keep improving that 964, it is worth it.

  • @joshbudhoo6102
    @joshbudhoo6102 5 лет назад

    Love the fact you have a 964 and willing to go this far with it. We have 2 930s we had to do the exact thing with. One of them not so bad, cut out rusted and rotted part and made our own patches to replace it. The other one we had to replace the roof because some put one in from a 993 and cracked the glass and rebuild the front end due to a crash. Replacing the roof is terrifying. It worked though and it is much more rigid. Glad you went this far for such a beautiful car.

    Two thoughts. These days we treat most cars as disposable. Secondly, there are very few craftsmen left that could do this kind of work. Cheap crappy cars, get crappy work most of the time.
    Keep up the interesting videos Larry!

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts 6 лет назад +7

      People treated cars as disposable in the 50s too, don't kid yourself; not all cars in the 40s even had oil filters. You tend to only see the best cars at car shows because people took care of those specific ones; they're not representative of all the cars that rusted out.

    lol this is exactly how i do it, nice work guys! i mostly use some damaged quarter panels or front fenders that i took of the car in the past to repair some older cars since it saves money for the owner of the car and also by weldig it with copper (if it's not a part of the car thats carrying any weight) it won't start rusting again (also using some tin lead replacer filler.) it's a bit of a tacky job (joke) but the end result is great and you'll be very proud of yourself when it get's out of the paintshop all nice n shiny! ( don't forget to thank the painter if you're not painting it yourself ;D)
