I found a few pieces of laser cut 1/4" thick 304L stainless in one of my scrap buckets so I am using it for a lap joint video.
Stainless steel requires less amperage than carbon steels so even for 1/4" thickness, I only used 95-105 amps.
In fact, I was plugged in to a 115volt circuit for this video using a primeweld 325

STILL...the best on YT after all these years. Love x3mtig also.
Already been said but you’ve always had the best welding closeups!
Oh I love welding stainless. So long as everything is clean and you got your gas sorted out… butter. It’s just so satisfying.
Jody been watching your video for the past 4 years and I taught myself to Tig weld from your videos . I actually started with the fupa 12 cup out of curiosity I got the jazzy 10 it's been my go-to for 3 years now I haven't used the fupa 12 makes me feel like I wasted $70 for them to sit in a box.lol😂😂😂😂 keep up the amazing content I see in your comments the love from all the noobs....😊😊😊😊😊
I’m a professional welder in the UK and love your work. If I have a problem chances are you have a video that helps solve it. Thank you for taking the time to make your content. Keep riding the manmade lightning ⚡️ 🤘
The Professor of weld vids, best on web by far, great info and to the point
Great video Jody, keep em coming. They help a garage newb like me alot 😂
I just had to have the duel flow meter and the little flow tester . lol Thanks Jody . :)
Thank you so much in the shop today and welding stainless for the second time😂
Thanks for sharing with us Jody. Great information and technique. Fred.
Excellent tutorial as always Jody!!!
Beautiful arc shots Jody.👍👍👍
I found this at the perfect time. Thank you!
Interesting amp setting. I always thought stainless was around 25A to 35A per mm, Jody's works out at around 16A/mm with mild being +10%.
Thanks Jody
Thanks Jody 😎👍
I just noticed...congrats Jody on over 1M subscribers...another great TIG video❗
Merci pour les conseils et les réglages
Fido's butt! Too funny Jodie. Great video! #10 Jazzy cups rock. I love those things for all but aluminum.
Thanks!
2:57 I cant really speak too much on Ceriated electrodes on the whole, but I do know this.... on large diameter pipe where big amperages are required, they deteriorate very quickly. Even without dipping it accidentally in the puddle, the tip gets very raggedy, very fast.

Great video Jody, keep up the good work …..
Man, your videos have been really useful for me over the past few years, thank you! I do have one question though. By the amperage rule of thumb, you welded that really cold. How did you determine that's where you wanted to be? Sometimes I find the rule of thumb to be absolutely crazy, so any info you could slap back at me is appreciated!
Been watching for years! Mr. Jody do you have a brother named Jim that worked for GPC? Thanks!
Great content Jody, as always, for the newer welders, can you suggest a rule or metric in selecting filler wire (stainless but other metals would be appreciated).
...Sanitary for home beer brewing pots too... some day I hope. Thanks for the past few years of instructional videos!
EDIT: sorry, stupid question below 'cuz DC isn't alternating (no frequency possible), and my question wasn't about pulse. Doh!
QUESTION, please: For the 1/4" 304 SS only, is there ever a need to change frequency or wave shape? Specifically, can I get by doing home 3/16" sanitary welds with a stick welder, TIG torch, back purged 100% argon (and one of your TIG fingers, of course)??
Jady, Love your channel and after my recent ebay purchase thought of you and your expertise. Just picked up some ER2209 Duplex mig wire. Wondering if i can use it as a filler for TIG welding 300 or 400 series stainless or if it is for duplex only? It was $100 for 33lb spool, so i actually bought it to cut it up and use for blasting, but figured might want to keep few pounds as wire to use as filler for TIG. Any advice?
Old but still have a good hands 🤍
Does not purging the backside affect the strength of a weld? Like on a stainless exhaust system?
Can you do a video on 316 stainless pipe?
I've done some 316, though most of my welding has been 304. I can't say I've noticed any difference. Just use 316 filler rod and all the same practices that are good for 304. Maybe I've missed something?
I can't say I've noticed much difference. I do a fair bit of 304 tube to 316 fittings.
Fido's butt 😂
Спасибо вам из России, благодаря вашим роликам я понял как делать красивые швы mig weld❤
Jodi, can you do a video TIG welding some S32760 super duplex stainless sheet 16 gauge or or 13 gauge with an argon back purge? Thank you
Sounds very specific.
@@jacobjames1171 It is. I have an idea percolating in my brain and using this material is a big part of it. Super duplex stainless steels are significantly more corrosion resistant (PREN) than even 316L so they are well suited for inhospitable environments.
I didn't know Albert Wesker was a welder
Hey there, tryin to check out with some PDF's you have on your site but can't checkout. Keeps bringing up the CAPTCHA. Never allows me to check out.
Buy atleast a tig Finger and you’ll get them
try a different browser, each one has their quirks.
@@weeniewawa I did. Brave, Chrome, Edge. After completing the CAPTCHA and continue it comes right back up.
@@rightiousangel oh then it is on his side. I hate those captcha things.
