More info about Hagrid's: -The preshow with Hagrid and Arthur Weasley actually has 2 projections; one on the transparent screen and another on the back wall for added depth -the vehicles do not keep track of which RFID tag is used to dispatch a vehicle. The platform is monitored by HD cameras and if an incident were to occur, those cameras would be used to determine who dispatched a vehicle. -The speed of the moving walkway and the vehicles in the station can be slowed to allow guests with limited mobility to board safely. This does not affect the rest of the ride unless the platform is kept at the slower speed for an extended period of time, at which point vehicles will back up to the final launch. -In addition to the bus bars in the station, there is also a short section on each drop track to charge the vehicles while they're parked there. -The blast ended skrewt and Hagrid figures were built by a company called Animax Designs. The unicorns were made by Life Formations -The drop tracks are hydraulic, not pneumatic, and do not need to actively home into position at the bottom of the drop. They are slowed at the bottom of their descent by induction currents between permanent magnets and copper plates on the track and its supports. There are pneumatic shock absorbers that slow the track down the last few feet, and when these shocks bottom out, the track is already lined up and ready to dispatch. -If a vehicle is approaching the end of its block and the next block is not clear yet, the vehicle will actually slow down to give the next block more time to clear. It will only stop if it gets to the very end of its current block and the next block still hasn't cleared yet. Source: I worked at Hagrid's during construction and opening
Awesome to hear from someone that worked on this. Never been to any of the disney parks, but I'm so curious about the engineering side of things there.
@@dadjake Disney definitely likes to do a blend of tried and true engineering and experimental. Universal tends to put thrills first and experimenting second.
When I went to universal for the first time over the summer we went on Hagrid’s. We didn’t really know anything about it, we just knew that it was a Harry Potter ride so we went on it. We were all blown away. My favorite ride at Universal
Not a Harry Potter fan, but this coaster is jaw dropping. The intricate nature, and all it's moving parts running in perfect harmony is nothing short of an engineering marvel.
Disney mistakenly anchored the yeti to the show building instead of anchoring it into the ground and building the show building around it. So instead of two distinct structures, it counts as one complete structure. After first opening the ride, the yeti operated in A mode for so long, that it was starting to break the foundations apart. If they activated the yeti in anything other than "D mode (disco yeti)," in which it currently operates, the yeti animatronic would literally collapse the entire ride. If they were to "fix the yeti," they would have to totally demolish the entire show building, completely redo the yeti and build everything back up from scratch. And that would be so costly to do that it would be the current year dollar amount equivalent on what they spent to build it in the first place.

I'm up to 5 times, I love it though the wait is still crazy even with fast passes and handicapped passes, Parts of the queue can be really claustrophobic, but if you give yourself a space of a couple feet from the people in front of you its usually ok for me. This was interesting.
I got to ride it 3 times on the day I went due to a handicap pass. It was still slow with the pass but unbelievably worth it. Hands down the best ride I have ever ridden. I also felt like sections of the ride queue were worryingly claustrophobic. It would be difficult to get out during an emergency as the tunnel sections without emergency exits was long. The only other thing I didn't like was the sound in the preshow room being insanely loud. May gusts had their hands over their ears. After a long time in that room, it can get a bit redundant hearing the same preshow over and over. This was during the 3rd week after it opened so, I would like to say they were still working some stuff out. People were watching entire 2hr movies on their phones in the regular queue which is insane.
this ride was amazing and it blue my mind. any wait time was completely worth it. we went into this not knowing about the drop track and all you could hear from us was "ah! what the ***!?!? what the ***?!?! omg omg that was awesome oh god what the ***!!??" then it launched again and when we got off it was just the biggest happiest smiles id ever seen on all of us haha it was great
I know. It's just a common misconception amongst the GP to say "that's unsafe" if it does have an inversion and only a lapbar. Somehow it hasn't clicked that coasters aren't in the 80s anymore and that restraint design has improved massively.
Coaster Labs - they think rides in general are unsafe, rides that go upside down even more, and if they know anything about restraints at all it’s amazing
@@TS_Mind_Swept the problem with gp is that they don't even raise how basic physics work. You don't need a harness on inversions, as you as literally pushed into your seat, only ejector hills and extreme banks give the feeling of being "launched" from a coaster. I love the open-ness of the new restraints on inverting rides.
Great video, I really enjoyed it. Just an FYI, even if the ride did go upside down it could still use that restraint system. Many coasters that offer multiple inversions use just a lap bar.
Oh I'm aware it could. I'm just clarifying for the common misconception that if a ride has an inversion it _must_ have a shoulder harness which is hardly the case anymore.
i dont think it could. i really dont feel that secure when im on the ride. on the other hand though rip ride rockit goes more over my stomach rather than my lap. i would not be okay using the hagrids lap bar to do an inversion
We have 14 trains total. 1 as a standby, 1 in mx and on paper 12 running the course.... 1 Right now the sweet spot seems to sit at 8 SOMETIMES 9 trains.
This was extremely informative and I personally knew how this ride worked but I think you explained it very well. Now I need to show/send it to my “GP” friends. I’m such a nerd when it comes to amusement parks, roller coasters, thrill rides etc. etc.
Thank you. Yeah, that's kinda who these videos are for, for the general public who aren't coaster enthusiasts. So they can get a better understanding of how it work and not say there's a battery and the train moves on its own, etc.
You sound like me. I could obsess over rides coasters, amusement parks and how they work all day. Haha. Hit me up on ig if you ever want to talk coasters. Thesocaleskimo.
this was a really cool video, i never knew this was the most expensive coaster built now and i never even knew it had the drop track section, that thing is insane, coaster technology has gotten so advanced over the years its insane
This was my favorite ride! The attention to detail of the decaying buildings made you feel like you were exploring the unknown! It started a light rain when we made it through the line and the rain hitting your face lightly made it even better making the motorcycles feel more real!
many people can't fit the now thing I with universal ddi was make every ride it every person like Disney does not not even a very large man and I don't fit on any Harry Potter ride except for gringots barley and in the last row of the mummy and not even close on the velocoster
The MOST BRILLIANT addition these parks EVER made was to include ADDITIONAL forms of 'entertainment' for the customers while they wait in line! Just the simple inclusion of a few video monitors showing actors performing cheap skits related to the attraction can make the wait in line an enjoyable event itself ;)
I love the detail of this video. Thank you very much. Would love to learn more about show control systems and how they've been given the ability to extend their scenes based on feedback from the ride control systems. You're awesome, thanks for the hard work!
This was so cool! I’ve always loved coasters and learned some things! That transfer blows my mind with how fast it is from the forwards to backwards section. Expedition Everest takes forever! Thank you! I love intamin rides! I still have to say I love Cheetah hunt at Busch gardens the best!
I had to watch this video because I was so confused and intrigued on how the drop worked. I literally was not expecting that at all and I was so confused how a piece of track could drop to another track! It was phenomenal!!
I’ve severely underestimated this ride. I thought it was it more on the mild side but that drop has me shook. The technology is downright amazing to run 7 trains at once. 😮
I enjoyed this ride. I was not blown away by it. And maybe it was because I was sour for the fact that it took more than two hours to get through the line. I love how the narrator of this video talks about how many trains they are running but they were doing that on my day.
Great video! I’m a big fan of intamin rides and would love to visit universal. I’ve been on 13 at Alton Towers many times, and if the reverse of travel direction and drop work as well on this then riders are in for a treat!
IT HAS A DROP??!?!!?! I knew about the rest of it, but OMG you definitely have my attention now lol. I really hope I can get on this during my trip to Orlando late next year. Thanks for this video! It was very informative and educational.
It has a 17 feet drop and I wasn’t expecting it I thought there was something wrong on the system and we will fall to our death or get injury, really fun
Block sections can be freaky. I've never been a huge coaster person since I'm never great with higher G-forces. But I tried the Mummy ride at Universal and was white-knuckling it most of the time. At the scene with the fire, we stayed there a rather long time, enough so that the scene completely reset for the next car. We could hear the screaming and track noise of the car behind us, and it sounded super close. I was in the back of the car, and I had that feeling of adrenaline so hard that your hearing is weaker and you feel lighter. We made it out, but for the next hour or so I was still crazy on edge
10:48 yoooo I never noticed that I got the front row with my cousin today and I didn’t realize that it changed that’s sick! 11:15 is what I came for though I always wondered what and how did they do the drop track
THIS VIDEO WAS F****** AMAZING!!! This is my favorite ride at islands of adventures and learning about how ride work only give me more appreciation for it! Great job in the video!
I'd imagine its a very fun coaster as you're not locked into a big seat like most coasters. It feel more open and like your riding and actual crazy bike.
Wow! That's all I can say😮😃I have a son who is studying electrical engineering, he would love to watch this. The ride is one I'll have to get on for sure. It gives you an appreciation for the building of the ride. Thanks so much for this explanation.
This video was VERY WELL done! First time watching your channel, but I definitely enjoyed this video and so I subscribed. The quality of the video, the excellent narration explaining all the parts of the ride, the editing and the use of music/audio is done very well! So glad I watched this video - I will be back for more!
I love this ride. The launches are really cool, (Even though the ride makes unsettling noises during the longer launches)and I liked the unique ride cars. The drop track at the cave part is my favorite.
The first time I rode this, I was with a group of people and we were celebrating my friend’s aunt who was visiting for her birthday. One of the people in our group had an assistance pass (like Disney’s DAS) and booked it for us, then after we rode it he decided we definitely needed to ride again and booked it a second time. While we were in line the second time, my friend’s aunt was chatting with some of the team members and generally charming the pants off of them, and they noticed her birthday button and said we could ride twice if we wanted. So we got off the second time and were brought back around to ride a third time. Basically, I went from never having ridden this ride to riding it three times in one day. And it has the potential to be very different each time depending on where you sit (front or back, bike or sidecar). It was so fun. I get why it pulls such insane wait times!
huh... I swear I thought it was a vekoma bike-coaster like the "boosterbikes" at a dutch theme park called "Toverland" -damn do I wanna ride this holy crap- -too bad I'm not in america-
I haven't had the chance to ride this ride yet as the last time I visited Universal, Orlando was in 2015 (RIP Dragon Challenge). But, the Motorbike Adventure reminds me a lot of Zierer's Verbolten at Busch Gardens, VA. A lot of the same (or similar) track elements are used in both rides, ie. multiple launches and drop sections. I adore Verbolten and now really want to go back to Universal to ride HMA.
Estimating from my personal useless knowledge of roller coasters and how much they cost, I would estimate between 80 and a 100 million. Which is astronomical for solely a coaster in comparison with most parks budgets for an un-themed coaster.
Very nice video! I always wondered what all the stuff that you described was that is placed on modern roller coaster tracks. Keep up the good work. Hard to fathom the brainiacs that are able to design these types of things
With all those requirements for track sections to be perfectly aligned and all the possible issues that could go wrong, it was no wonder why the ride time was 3 hours long and why it kept being shut down due to issues.
I'd be very interested in learning more about science behind the design and safety of these rides. I'm very tall and was unable to ride any rollercoaster at Universal save for flight of the Hippogriff
I would love it if you can find some details about the ride's maintenance issues. I have only heard that the ride is rougher than intended and that track(?) wear is much greater than expected.
•Wendsi but it’s totally worth the wait time, I had no problem with the wait time since I had already experienced the rest of the park. If you are a fan of Harry Potter you have to experience this ride!
What you refer to as the "Ride Computer" is called a Ride PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) made by Allen Bradley or Siemens and is able communicate with the show scenes and the trains. Btw, Intamin uses Control Logix PLC line for ride control.
@@shawnspencer8766 Agreed. They also use AS-Interface Modules en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS-Interface for moditoring and controlling the lab bars. Also they maybe using magnets verify that the lab bars in the down position.
First and only time ever at Universal and this ride was closed the whole time i was in the harry potter world. The castle ride was good and the atmosphere was really cool but i did want this ride so it was disappointing when we first tried to go that it was closed. On our way out of the harry potter section we noticed a employee telling people the ride is open and we were able to walk all the way to the front without waiting in line just enjoying the walk there. Waited about 5 minutes to get on and the ride was one of the best rides i got to do that day. I know it's probably rare to not wait for a ride like that but it was defiantly worth it and made my day.

This comment ages well since we have to social distance now lol
Yes I felt so claustrophobic at times during the inside cave
I hope they retain the 1m safe distance even after COVID is over...
I rode 3 times in 2 days thanks to handicap pass & child swap! It was sooo awesome!
Honestly.. no matter what the wait time is.. this ride is completely worth it!
this ride was amazing and it blue my mind. any wait time was completely worth it. we went into this not knowing about the drop track and all you could hear from us was "ah! what the ***!?!? what the ***?!?! omg omg that was awesome oh god what the ***!!??" then it launched again and when we got off it was just the biggest happiest smiles id ever seen on all of us haha it was great

Schwarzkopf has entered the chat
@@zuzelino5889 they might if they were still around...
@@Teeter11 RMC models are some of the most intense coasters with only lap bars. Its truly a thrilling experience
Teeter11 rip rocket has no inversion it doesn’t go upside down

We have 14 trains total. 1 as a standby, 1 in mx and on paper 12 running the course.... 1
Right now the sweet spot seems to sit at 8 SOMETIMES 9 trains.
Yeah, I found out about the extra trains after making the video, but man FOURTEEN TRAINS?!?! That's insane.
@@AmusementLabs yeah 12 trains is... yeah.... lol Your videos rock btw and this video is badass!
@@caflybois thanks. 😁
Thanks so much for making this! I've been trying to google how this ride works for the past few days after riding it but couldn't find anything!
Great! Glad you liked it! 😁
Hands down best ride i've ever been on. Tried the new Velocicoaster ride which was wicked too as a roller coaster but this ride had magic!
This was my favorite ride! The attention to detail of the decaying buildings made you feel like you were exploring the unknown! It started a light rain when we made it through the line and the rain hitting your face lightly made it even better making the motorcycles feel more real!
It's rather ironic that passengers of larger build can't ride the bike, look at Haggrid
So, they built the bikes in a smaller scale so that humans can use them... plot twist, along comes a giant.
many people can't fit the now thing I with universal ddi was make every ride it every person like Disney does not not even a very large man and I don't fit on any Harry Potter ride except for gringots barley and in the last row of the mummy and not even close on the velocoster
Thank you! I'm glad you.liked the video. It'd probably be very difficult to find out how something like that works as that's usually a trade secret.
This was so cool! I’ve always loved coasters and learned some things! That transfer blows my mind with how fast it is from the forwards to backwards section. Expedition Everest takes forever! Thank you! I love intamin rides! I still have to say I love Cheetah hunt at Busch gardens the best!
I rode this right just recently and it was awesome! I just want to do it again! One of the best rides ever
I had to watch this video because I was so confused and intrigued on how the drop worked. I literally was not expecting that at all and I was so confused how a piece of track could drop to another track! It was phenomenal!!
"Oh hey, cool, this sounds so cool, I wanna go on this thing--"
*AL describes the drop track*
NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE!
same!!!
It’s epic. Highly recommend
it was so unexpected when i rode it but totally worth it
I was really scared for it bc I hate free fall drops but it’s like .2 seconds and you know when it’s coming so it’s not a surprise
I’m sooo glad I went in blind..has no idea what to expect. Blown away
It has a 17 feet drop and I wasn’t expecting it I thought there was something wrong on the system and we will fall to our death or get injury, really fun
i hope i can ride this one day. Excellent job providing all the details on the workings of this ride
Thanks. It's a one man show here so comments like your's mean a lot. 🙂
Wow. Will certainly have to ride this when I go out there. Thanks
A masterpiece of a ride! We rode it for the first time at night! Highly recommended
i always struggled to understand the drop floor part of this ride! you explained it well, thank you!
I'd imagine its a very fun coaster as you're not locked into a big seat like most coasters. It feel more open and like your riding and actual crazy bike.
Wow. That drop track looks amazing! I can feel the butterflies in my stomach from home.
And the whole assembly is super heavy so you really feel it.
Nice to see you showed the drop in the ride Thirteen at Alton Towers UK. Awesome ride when it runs properly.
I rode thinking it was gonna be an upgraded flight of the hippogriff, and MAN was I wrong. Amazing ride
Wow! That's all I can say😮😃I have a son who is studying electrical engineering, he would love to watch this. The ride is one I'll have to get on for sure. It gives you an appreciation for the building of the ride. Thanks so much for this explanation.
Happy to entertain future engineers! 🙂
(If he's really into EE then maybe an Arduino kit would be a great fit for him, I know they were for me)
Literally my favorite ride in all of the Universal Studio parks
great video! (waited until after I rode it before I watched)
wow, i didnt know technology like this existed yet!
very nice ride, and very nice video presentation
pog.
I rode this for the first time on grad venture last week and i luckily got first row single rider!! It was awesome and i felt like i was flying!!
Wow what a comprehensive video! Thank you for such an interesting and informational look into this crazy ride
This is one of the best coasters I have ever been on honestly wish I had done it again
This video was VERY WELL done! First time watching your channel, but I definitely enjoyed this video and so I subscribed. The quality of the video, the excellent narration explaining all the parts of the ride, the editing and the use of music/audio is done very well! So glad I watched this video - I will be back for more!
Definitely one of my favorite roller coasters. It has a great mix of everything.
This is some of the best video content on the whole interwebs!
This is such a fun, fast and yet beautiful ride! So so nice.
the landscaping and design is incredible. Don't overlook the amount of effort time and money that went into that. Insanely beautiful
That drop was a new trill and awesome !
I love this ride. The launches are really cool, (Even though the ride makes unsettling noises during the longer launches)and I liked the unique ride cars. The drop track at the cave part is my favorite.
This is the best ride I’ve ever been on and I still go on about it months later
Best ride I have ever risen, thanks for the cool video!
Great video! I’d love to ride this, it looks great! It’s like Th13teen on steroids.
Rode Hagrids back in August and Th13teen today....I agree with you ha
I get why it pulls such insane wait times!
huh... I swear I thought it was a vekoma bike-coaster like the "boosterbikes" at a dutch theme park called "Toverland"
-damn do I wanna ride this holy crap-
-too bad I'm not in america-
TRON in Shanghai Disneyland is from Vekoma. its the same boosterbike type. just newly designed ride vehicles.
@@OfficialRuben187 - I am aware, yet I have nog been there, so I used an example that I know more about.
There’s a Vekoma bike coaster at flamingo land in the uk called Velocity
nah its intamin lol
I wasn't expecting the drop in the forest part and it was great.
Is there any information on how much of the cost was for the physical coaster itself versus how much was spent on the theming aspects?
Estimating from my personal useless knowledge of roller coasters and how much they cost, I would estimate between 80 and a 100 million. Which is astronomical for solely a coaster in comparison with most parks budgets for an un-themed coaster.
the left bussbar(?) is used to track the trains to the millimeter and the right one in the station is to charge the car
Very nice video! I always wondered what all the stuff that you described was that is placed on modern roller coaster tracks. Keep up the good work. Hard to fathom the brainiacs that are able to design these types of things
I just rode this today and I that 17 foot drop was scary as hell but the ride was awesome!!!!
the drop on this one drew a real life-fearing-scream from me, i'll never forget it
With all those requirements for track sections to be perfectly aligned and all the possible issues that could go wrong, it was no wonder why the ride time was 3 hours long and why it kept being shut down due to issues.
Man..i went on a field trip here 2 weeks before this opened...😔✊
Weaverr never ride this ride during field trips, the wait time is like 2 hours, you can ride like 3 rides in that time
•Wendsi but it’s totally worth the wait time, I had no problem with the wait time since I had already experienced the rest of the park. If you are a fan of Harry Potter you have to experience this ride!
I was on line for 90+ minutes in rain and beating sun but it was so worth it
What you refer to as the "Ride Computer" is called a Ride PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) made by Allen Bradley or Siemens and is able communicate with the show scenes and the trains. Btw, Intamin uses Control Logix PLC line for ride control.
Thank you for the info! I'll put it in for corrections.
Usually controllogix or compactlogix. I've been seeing a change to point IO recently for newer rides.
