In my top 5 HL songs ever.I still have the 7inch from 1983 and loved, loved, loved that beautiful colourful '80s 'happy go lucky' photo cover. It matched the carefree playful mood of those times.Maxi single version is also great to me.
Absolutely LOVE this song. So addictive and impossible for me not to do the clap throughout the song and the true accomplishment to hit the two successive claps during the outro. Love the video for this song as well and the two claps at the end are prominently shown. The 2 girls are highly featured in the video and as a college student when this song came out it was a huge part of forming my musical preference and part of that also was due to the entire mood and look which was part of the early to mid 80s bands from the U.K. which were part of the New Wave, synthpop second British Invasion which exposed the U.S. to a bevy of brand new artists from the U.K. who had a completely brand new kind of pop sound, employing electronics and synths combined with slick, smooth and perfectly polished pop which was also incredibly danceable. You should react to “Mirror Man” and if you want to hear something which has a little more edge and might give you more of the earlier Human League sound you alluded to in your comments, check out their song “The Lebanon”
Matt, there are four singers on this track haha. Phil, Suzanne, Joanne and Jo Callis. Each line of the verses is a different singer and it's meant to sound like a conversation. I think the song is about that , about feeling stuck and wanting to get out of it, how talking helps with keeping that feeling of moving and staying interested in life, love, art, whatever it is, and how it can change your mind about things that you felt were true about you. Here in the UK it was released as a stand alone single in 1983. Like on some of their other tracks, that circular synth sound is quite jarring and harsh (I don't think you did the track Hard Times)but works great with the funky, bouncy bassline. Like their previous single which you will get to, it's almost like Electronic Motown.
Back in the new wave days, many artists would put out multiple versions of the same song in ep and 12" versions. Sometimes 4 or 5 versions of the same song. Bands like Human League, Heaven 17 and Duran Duran were notorious of these multiple releases. I always thought it had to do with the limited record buying population in the UK market and the need to make more money through multiple record sales. Regardless, always loved this song!
that riff is really harsh and rebellious like it wants to annoy the listener, while first hearing it I thought this is disgusting but... it works? the most surprising thing is that a lot of people in the 80s welcomed this tune (even my mom who isn't very daring musically enjoys this song for some strange reason)
That EP was damn good!Unfortunately wasn't released worldwide but was limited US thang.I recall back in the summer of 1983 my teenage tape was filled up with the 'Fascination" single ,Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet, some Bucks Fizz,Yazoo('Situation"),Bananarama,Eurythmics,Kim Wilde,Heaven17,Tears for Fears(loved 'Pale Shelter") and all that nostalgic stuff.
@@victorialira Oh ! well i was aware that it was exclusively released for the US and Canadian market (sadly),but it was also obviously imported in a limited amount into some European markets, so not as an official release i guess, though i don't really know about Portugal.Back then i couldn't find it as an import or even order it, also no internet , less and slow information etc. and all i've learned were from foreign music press i was reading like a maniac.Btw Poretuguesse people have a grrrr8 sense and taste in music. It's in their blood.cheers and thank's a lot for the info.
@@victorialira who knows, perhaps an imported item but if so yet so good for the lucky ones to catch such a fine rarity.A couple of songs in its tracklist were later included in the 'Hysteria" album but in a different version, less synthed and imo kinda 'bare' not as exciting as they were in the EP.
I literally fell asleep during the match (I had to work later in the day, so all things considered, that wasn't the worst outcome for me personally, lol). But hey, it's your club's time, no one can deny that. But all those memories I have of watching the team in red raise trophy after trophy were real, no one can tell me otherwise. And the great thing about being a multi-sport fan is you can move your attention to another team/sport in a better position. My Dodgers are juggernauts, and they just got the best player on the planet. So that's where my sports energy is now.
@@mattsnider2667 Tom Selleck in Mr Baseball is the greatest player in the world in rounders, so let's not go there. As for yesterday, it is always fun to see Chainmale getting delusional after another defeat.
Fascination and Mirror Man were both hits but they lacked a certain je ne sais quoi compared with the Dare hits, I think. Oakey was becoming increasingly paralysed by success, leading to a 2.5 year gap between albums. Not really a long time compared with some other artists, but the momentum was definitely lost, much to Virgin's chagrin.
Certainly not a track that I liked. When I listen to it more than once that certain melody in the background of the chorus just starts to irritate me somehow. Well said by @Dadgecity in the comments, I totally agree.

I feel so dumb when you use the big words LOL
Haha, cheers, though fair to say, whatever skill my brain has with vocabulary, it "makes up for" with dodgy memory, lol.

The video has a kid playing soccer. There was a soccer match yesterday. Did you enjoy it as much as I did?
