My first boat was a one man boat, foot pedal steer with 50lb thrust trolling motor. Still have it got it in 2020. Just got my Dream boat yesterday. 17ft Seapro 170CC 2002 90hp Yamaha . I'm the 3rd owner of it and it was well taken care of. cant wait to get it registered and hit the Bay

My 1st boat was a 1994 Lowe L170 and bought it for 3 grand 6 years ago. Swapped the 50hp for a used 25 hp so I could fish power plant lakes here in Illinois. Still used it today and continue to upgrade electronics every couple years

We started with a 12' aluminum boat growing up. We were only 12 so we would have to beg family members that had trucks to drop us off and pick us up when we went fishing. I now have a 16 foot aluminum boat that i use in fresh and saltwater. Aluminum boats are really a great way to cheaply enter the sport.

You nailed the point perfectly. Status versus fun. Fun equals memories. Building on something gives you agency and ownership. Lower complexity is lower cost of ownership. Not to mention, these old aluminum boats need some TLC and need to be back on the water. Get out there and start making memories.

You’ve literally got one of the most down to earth channels. This video destressed me a little. I’m currently trying to budget for a boat in a couple years. I’m mainly a kayak angler but want my kids to fish and once they start walking/are able, I need a boat. I started in my grandfathers stick steer panfish bass tracker. Used to break limits

Currently rebuilding my 17ft bass tracker tournament v17 from 1987 new floor new to me motor new seats new deck and carpet all over new wood wherever it’s needed including the transom and I must say it’s been the most fun I’ve had working on a boat plan on putting electronics on it next month also extending the front deck out about a foot. It has been a journey and it has been a blast!! I’m so glad I decided not to sell it and rebuild it instead it’s the perfect boat for me and my 7 year old son to get out on the water and bass fish and panfish love your inspirational videos Brian I’m sure there has been a lot of people you have inspired with these keep it up man

My first was a 14 foot aluminum that I bought for $400 at wal mart. We would slide it in back of my truck and caught lots of fish. I bought it with money that I got for graduation. I graduated in 1993. The memories that was made with it was the best.

Growing up we were bank fishers. My dad started buying junk boats, because they are dirt cheap. He went through a dozen over the years and I fished out of most of them. As an adult, I only had kayaks, but wanted a boat. Two years ago I bought my dream boat, a Tracker Classic, when they had a good sale price on one, $14,099. I didn't pass it up. It will likely be the only boat I ever own.

My first boat was a kayak with a paddle. My next boat will be a kayak with a motor but I’d like to have a john boat/bass boat that I can put a bigger outboard on to use on bigger bodies of water. I don’t need to get across the lake in record time but some of the places I fish would take an hour or more to go from one end to the other in a kayak with an electric motor. I’ve fished from larger boats and honestly I prefer fishing from a smaller boat. I like getting back in the tough to access areas the big boats can’t get into.

I fish the Upper Chesaeake Bay rivers, I've got a 1999 Ranger R61 w/ a 1999 90-hp 2 Stroke Merc. Cost me $5k w/ a trolling motor a few years ago. In the past 3 years I've got 3 graphs, livescope, powerpoles, and customized it to fit my needs perfectly, put about 5-6k into it. There are so many options out there, just keep your eye on the used market and know what to look for to make sure you're buying something that isn't a money pit! Also know how to perform your own maintenance!

Got my first boat last year. Paid $800 for a 15’ Lowe. It’s old. Has some leaking rivets. But $800 for boat, motor, and a trailer. That’s a steal. I now use it for solo fishing or hunting. I have another boat for fishing with the family now. Point is you’re 1000% correct. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get out on the water.

I remember doing that back in the 70’s. Getting and old used aluminum boat then putting a slat floor in it. There was no trolling motor, just a paddle and anchor with a small hand operated outboard. There is always a lot places you can putt around and anchor or tie up and fish without getting into rough open water.
Catching bass will still be just as much fun as catching them out of a big boat

I made one last summer. 1976 crestliner. Replaced a lot rivets. Rivet in side supports to support an aluminum frame. Put on a deck with hatch’s. Glassed my transom with mate and resin. It’s not hard go for it. It’s so easy to use it’s cheap on gas. I use far more than I did my bass boat.

If you’re willing to put some elbow grease in and watch out for good deals, you can fix up a boat for really cheap. I found a 2015 tracker with a 75 horse four stroke for $2000. It had been caught on fire, but it was an Aluminum boat so I knew that the damage couldn’t be that bad. I ripped everything out and replaced the deck replaced the cowling put about $300 with the parts into the engine and now I’m about $3500 into a 2015 17 1/2 foot bass tracker. It’s definitely possible.

Here in South Florida… GOOD LUCK finding a decent JonBoat that isn't destroyed for under $1200. they're asking RIDICULOUS money for Jon Boats and Kayaks because of the increase in popularity in small boat fishing.
That said, like you state int he video, if you're handy AND patient, you can find amazing units at respectable price points that only need a little knowhow to restore to new with little or no money.
Personally, for the money, you can find dreamboat that rivals today's absurdly overpriced 6-figure boats for around what you'd pay for a Jon Boat, but for those you need a little more knowhow or the money to pay someone with the knowhow to restore back to almost showroom new and you can be out on the water with a state of the art rig that's 18'-21' for a couple grand give or take.
