- Mount Marathon is the superbowl of Alaskan mountain running, the ultimate 4th of July celebration, one of my first experiences with competitive running, and a race that is near and dear to my heart. I had so much fun reliving my race experience and giving some insights on this beast of a 5k.

Coach: the course this week will have one or two small hills
The course:
This Course has just one hill.
E
@@pennypackmtb2542 well yes, but the point is the difficulty of said course
It’s a lot funnier if you imagine it’s flat and they bear crawl a 5k
Yes please, more voice over races. It is very insightful to listen to what you elite athletes are thinking during these awesome efforts.
Seconded!
沒
Your respect for and kind words toward your competitors is a beautiful thing.
Indeed. 🐐🙌🏾 Inspirational.
You Know it’s a big deal when they have a helicopter following the elites.
Classic MUT (Mountain-Ultra-Trail) Running! This is good example to explain to the pure track and road runners what it means when one has to "power-hike" because the "trail" is not "runnable"🤣...and as you know that definition of what a "technical trail" shifts in degrees with mountain running races in Europe (And in states like Alaska!).
and also in a tropical country like Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand. The Mountain race is literally technical from the start. I guess.
will you one day go to reunion island to participate to the Diagonal des fous ? (or maybe you have already done it ?)
Idk why but I feel like Allie O and Emma abrahamson would be really good friends 😂
Check out her episode of convos over cold brew, they agree!
Im a Seward local. Its been a pleasure watching and cheering for you all these years Allie. You do your state proud.
This is incredible, my legs are hurting just watching it.
Thank god for the comfortable bucket to sit on at the end!
I am 34 years old and just came from being a couch potato to running 10K and now training for half marathon. Watching this made me feel so excited about what I can try in the future! This looks brutal! Much respect to you and the other athletes!
Haha, you guys are nuts. I'm just here a mix of a powerlifter and couch potato and I just watch these types of videos because my twin brother is a trail runner/ultrarunner and I want to connect with his passion.
I hope you had a good half...now on to a marathon!
@@ddebenedictis my half marathon went great! I also did another half after the first one and last year I also ran my first full marathon. It was a great experience.
@@solidsn2011 Yay! I tried a marathon once, which is enough for me. The half is a more manageable run for my 68 year old bones.
@@ddebenedictis yeah I only ran one marathon as right after my 3rd daughter was born and I was sleeping very little with practically not enough time to train. I am currently working out at the gym 4 times a week of 45-60’. Once my girls are old enough I wanna start running again but for now some body building is my go-to solution while on limited time.
This is the very thing I wanted you to do when I heard you got a channel Allie. Thanks for listening. Alpine Allie at her best...
This is crazy... Allie get a Strava
This is fecking great. Only second to the original race coverage. Mount Marathon is just like British & Irish fell/mountain running.
Allie O, certified mountain GOAT
I’m from the mountain, trail and ultra crew and while I wish you ALL the success in the Steeple, like world medal success, I am also secretly hoping you also come back and do World Mt Champs, Sky Running series etc.
My f*cked up knees could NEVER
This is crazy I can’t even run for 20 minutes never mind 1 hour I went on a jog today and I was dead I couldn’t breathe literally this motivates me and you inspire me to push through the pin and keep going your a real legend keep doing what your doing your helping so much people you don’t know how many much respect for this women she got so much heart and respect 💪💕
I’ve never heard of this race. It was so much fun to get a personal tour from one of the winners. Great job Allie!
This looks so similar to downhill skiing in terms of the “S” movements you have to make when coming down at speed.
This seems like such a fun event. I don't think saying "steep" gives it enough credit. It looks if you stood straight up, you'd fall backwards! The gully / gut looks like a spot where you'd rock climb with how steep it looks. It reminds me of the 2020 Ranch Loop run
This makes me want to move to Alaska. This is why you are the toughest runner out there you are from Alaska.
This is insanely impressive.
I would literally die. I've never run a mile in my life so im so so impressed.
That was amazing. The long uphill stretches really showcase what an incredible athlete she is, much more than just seeing her run fast on level ground. So much power in that compact small body! What was her heartrate going up the hills, I wonder?
Hills are my friends, I love them. Not quite as quick as some people on the track but at hill running I’m pretty good. Enjoying the video so far!
Hahaha your still incredibly quick on the track!

Liked the narration: quick, informative, fun, passionate. A special example of the PR skills a professional athlete needs. Well done!
This voiceover is great I really enjoyed the commentary. When and if you get the time commenting your three NCAA Steeplechase titles would be fantastic!!!!
This video blows me away . Never new this particular race existed. One of the best narratives ever!
Love these voiceovers!
I remember watching this race! And so many others. Always so much fun!
I seriously loved this great job Allie!!!
Love, love, love this video coupled with your voice over! Watching the Mount Marathon races on RUclips was how I first came to know about you, Allie. I have since tried to watch about every race that you have run that exists on RUclips. I have a world of respect for you, and I am a true fan!
Great report on an incredible race! Well done Allie!
Awesome video... The world needs more of these races.
Really enjoyed this video. What a pleasant surprise! Thank you!
You are amazing Allie! I've been watching these youtube videos of the race, and you are awesome!👍❤
Wonderful to listen to you break down your races. Yes, please continue and perhaps have your teammates come on and interview them while watching one of their memorable races
I loved this Allie, great work and congratulations !
WOW! Amazing Allie this looks like a very tough race but I give you so much props you did amazing and the uphill looks killer but you did amazing!!!! Congrats!!!
Great video and even better narration. Very nice job. You and other runners should do more voice over videos like this one of their best performances. So interesting to hear what you were thinking during the race.
Fantastic race . The way you went down the hill was super impressive , so technical, well done 👍
I remember meeting you briefly during my short time on the track team at Boise State in 2015!
It’s crazy to see you’ve come so far since then and this voice over is great! Keep training hours and congrats!
Congratulations on your win and PR! Amazing accomplishments!
Amazing Allie, your some all round athlete. It makes the fell races l've ran in England small fry.
Keep the great videos coming, it's great being able to watch the professionals training, along with the great spirit in camp.
Great narration! First time ever watching a race like this. What a challenge. I kept going back trying to see where you fell the first two times. Watched from my cell; guess I gotta catch it on a a big screen. Kudos to you on your win!
Allie, thanks so much for voicing this over! I'm so very excited that I finally got in to Mount Marathon through the lottery, whenever it happens next
Soooooo sick! Randomly found this race in Seward on an Alaskan vacation a few years back. Such an amazing little town
Really fun, thanks for sharing! I became a fan of yours when I discovered Mount Marathon and went down a rabbit hole of watching the videos! So crazy; I could never do that. You are so impressive.
Wow, that was amazing!!! Congrats!!! 💪🏻
Wonderful, the voice-over added to the thrill of the race.
Brilliant! Loved the video and the commentary by Allie.
Excellent vid, Allie. I always love watching that race. For other races to voice over, I remember you kicking butt in a steeple where it was, like, 90 degrees.
Congrats on winning in front of a nice big crowd. Great athleticism on your part. Fun to watch you go down the hill at a breakneck speed. I'd like to see you voice over the 2016 Olympic trials.
OMG Allie you're a living legend. This vid is seriously so awesome! Such a fan of yoursss!
So superbe race !!! Just so inspiring. !!!!! thanks Allie and a long and powerful life to you 💕
Excellent job putting this together and doing the voice-over! I really enjoyed all the extra footage of you running that race. I grew up in AK, and ran the juniors (boys) race as a Freshman or Sophomore in high school, in 1978 or '79. There were 52 of us, and I finished 25th. Nearly an off-the-couch "race" for me, and I was beyond destroyed. I'm 58 and still running crazy trail runs, like R2R at the Grand Canyon. I wish it weren't so difficult to get a ticked for MM, because I'd love to do the whole course.
Great video, enjoyable to watch and hear the thoughts of the racer
Thank you so much! It took me back to my many mud runs. I did one mountain marathon in western Washington. Four laps on a rainy day and the last lap was so sloppy yet fun. But your race looked insane. I wish I could have had a shot at this when I could still run. I still get out, but at 68, have lost a lot of speed & endurance. Watching & listening got me so excited, I loved it. Again, thank you!!!
Wow power crawling up such a steep mountain looks brutal great video Allie. 👍
I stumbled upon this voice-over effort as I prepare for a series of mountain races myself. I like this format and feel it is such a terrific and interesting perspective to hear the athletes talk you through the race. This would be great for Cross Country, in particular. I saw another comment with someone suggesting Allie use a Strava. That would also add context and insight.
Allie it's incredible watching you run this 5k!! You have not "just" elite running skills, but the all-important drive and sheer determination that it takes to be the best. It's SO inspiring to see this video - thanks for posting this! I look forward to more of your great running videos.
I have only watched your content for a few weeks and did not know you did mountain/trail running. I have ran trails for 10 years and I am in love with this race. I paced in Western States 2019, can't wait to see you there. You are amazing and can't wait to see where your career goes. So much respect, you are incredible.
Love the race commentary Allie! It's great getting your perspective on such a wild race. I think it could be fantastic if you commentated some other iconic races of yours like NXN 2014, 2016 Oly trials, NCAA XC, NCAA Steeple finals, USA Finals, Doha 2019, Millrose 2020 etc. There was this one video on youtube too that has your "xc debut" as a freshman that you could react to as well and give advice for aspiring runners.
That was awesome & congrats 🙌🏼
You are so humble and kind.
What an intense, yet cool race! Congrats.
More! Loved this👍Amazing run Allie AD🐐
OMG watching you do this race and your voiceover awesome. thank you for this . you are a Beast of a Runner. love Seward. My Sister and I are volunteering this year. woo hoo.
I have a whole new respect and admiration for you.I extreme hike I know how hard this is.So impressed.Fan for life now.I will watch ads to you are worth it.
This was pretty sick. Great vid idea!
Unbelievable race. You’ve got to be fast and brave Allie and you’re both!😃
Can’t wait to see you tearing it up in the Golden Trail Series in years to come!
I loved this video. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that it was only a 5k....🤯. Thanks for sharing this with us!!
Wow that was fun to watch, brutal race, you really flew on that tough downhill....
I love running downhill in the mountains as well! Almost feels like flying ☺️
Brilliant thank you for sharing the experience
Starting at 10:03 you were actually skiing ⛷ down that hill. You had some pretty nice turns there. What a cool video! That race looks absolutely brutal!
I watched this race here on RUclips over the winter and was so inspired. You were just flying down that mountain! I’m from Alaska, but moved to ND 7 years ago. I just started running again 2 years ago. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to do this race. So inspiring. Such an amazing finish in town. Thanks for talking about this, Allie!
Hello, I met you on the Flo Track channel, it's good to know that now you have your own channel to accompany you, good training and that the competitions will come soon when all this passes Brazilian greetings 🇧🇷
This was great! Thank you.
I don’t even run, or watch running videos normally but I just watched this whole 17 minute video and I found it really entertaining lol
Nicely done. Your voice over really puts much of the leaders portion in perspective. I ran the race 19 times between 1985 and 2006 and never saw bugs like that either. Keep on, keepin' on.
RUclips is natural to gifted storytellers like you. Keep it up.
Awesome 🤩 This was extremely fun to watch and the narration was non-stop interesting and fun 😊 Thank you 🙏🏻 🥰👍🏻 for sharing your beautiful spirit and achievement. Very inspirational.
woow that looks like a awesome race with awesome result
Wow, what a run that is and what a race that is!
That was amazing! More race commentary videos, please. I just cannot picture TASpecial running this race
I have no idea how I made it into this video but wow! What an amazing race and athlete! Loved the voice over. Well done on the win!
Impressive, thx. so much for sharing your thoughts while running.
Definetly more voice over 🤩 Love this first hand insights from a Pro-perspective. Motivating and inspiring. Love Alaska and running but am definetly not a mountain runner. But why not having a dream in participating one day...
Impressive. Most impressive race I've ever seen!
Another nice commentary. Thanks!
When I saw this for the first time, I was terrified with the downhill sprint and thought she’s crazy! Now watching with the voiceover, I think Allie is SO STRONG.
I've only ever heard your voice when you're completely winded post race or a little girl who is super excited! Didnt expect this smoooth voice over. This recap was awesome! Best of luck with pro track, but i can't wait to some day see you at a trail race/ ultra! Keep being you!
Thanks for a great race recap
Super impressed with you, Allie!
Very Excellent! Appreciate the Voiceover!
omg this looks soooo hard! you are amazing!
i literally rewatched this race video last night omg
