    Awesome. I knew a long time ago you were destined for greatness in the marathon and ultramarathon arena. Having run several ultras myself, I can attest to the level of commitment required. Good on you, Allie. You killed the course. I took a left turn in Albuquerque & ended up running 105K instead of 100K. Oops. Ultras have the best medals. I got a horse shoe. Your antlers are dope.

      No one as injury prone as her is destined for ultrmarathon success. I honestly don't understand why she'd do this lol

    • @Wings_nut
      @Wings_nut 11 месяцев назад +16

      @nc8186 At 61 yo, I've had my share of running injuries. That's not going to stop me from running 100 miles a week. Allie is a trooper who recovers quickly. She'll do just fine as an endurance athlete; better so than as a middle distance athlete because trails are much more forgiving to the body than are the roads.

    • @nc8186
      @nc8186 11 месяцев назад +2

      @Wings_nut I have no doubt she could have success in endurance events. Just don't understand why she's doing one a few months post stress fracture or whatever it was with ari she only running 30-40mpw with cross training which is a different world than 100mpw that you did. I know as a youtuber she needs content and to keep her Channel interesting but she didn't have to do it at such a risk to herself lol. It's just frustrating to try and support someone who has shown tons of potential and they just throw away intelligent training under the guise of having a little fun. She could've done a trail 10k or 20k instead. It's not like she filmed much during this race

    Allie O.....you are AMAZING!! Congrats on 1st place in your first ultra. Wow! Apparently 31 miles wasn't enough, and I know that running an extra 100 yards after you are near the 30 mile mark is heartbreaking, and you went about a mile beyond, and still won!! How good are you!!! I think you are just starting to find that out, as per my previous comment, I advised you change your last name such that you are "Allie Awesome"! You ran 10 miles further than your previous best......and won! Amazing.
    I knew you would be great at marathons and ultras as I shared some months back, and I know that the future will bring some really epic experiences. I liked your sharing of gratitude for being able to be where you are and running in such beautiful scenery. Really well done, and my dear you have earned your Burrito. BTW, you have far better sense of post marathon/ultra marathon dining than me, as after one marathon, lets just say Taco Bell was a really bad choice! Congratulations Allie!!!

      Wow, like no 5ks, you didn't compete in HS or college and a half marathon is the first thing you choose 😂. If you have a full time job, it is very very difficult to have enough time to train to reach your full potential in these higher distances, so just remember to try a 5K sometime - it might be a better fit (unless your body can handle 80+ mile weeks required to race a half. I could never go above 40ish). Enjoy!

    Finally. An ultra. I've run a few (in excess of 85) my first in 1997. Saw that some people thought you shouldn't run a 50k on 30 miles a week. That was my average including when I broke 24 hours in 2004 at Western States. I was not a great runner but I had some good age group times including a sub-3:40 50k (flat) and a 4:22 50k with almost 5000 feet of climbing at 52 years old. All that averaging 30 miles a week with virtually no Xtraining. I also had injuries. The old saying is that runners are the healthiest injured people around. Yup. So what. Learn what works for you and take advantage of the rare gift you have. I don't know why you were given the ability you have but the shame would be to waste it, particularly if you love doing it. Congratulations on your overall win.
    By the way, I also have a couple of horseshoes for placing in ultras, and some framed special posters for age group winners (40's and 50's). They are unique and cool. So are your antlers. Enjoy.

    • @allie_ostrander
      @allie_ostrander  11 месяцев назад +1

      It's definitely unconventional to run a 50k off of such low mileage, but people don't realize that I log my hiking separately, so for the last 1.5-2 months I've been doing 30-40 miles of running a week plus 10-20 miles of hiking, so it's actually much more!

    • @ultratodd
      @ultratodd 11 месяцев назад

      You're an extraordinary runner. You work out a lot more than I did. I did far less for two reasons: I worked 50 to 60 hours a week and sometimes more; I was injured when I tried to work out more than 4 days a week or 40 miles a week. I had to limit track workouts because speed workouts generally tore up my feet. My point is to do what's right for you. You are unique and need to regulate your training for your body and not the generic elite runner athlete (is there a generic elite athlete?). Stay special. Be good to yourself. Enjoy your success.

    Ultras are awesome. I did 36 of them before I couldn't anymore. I've been wondering when you would get around to that given recent training and the companies sponsoring you. One of these days you should give serious consideration to a fixed-time race. The one many ultrarunners like to do is 24 hours, and they aren't hard to find these days. These are low-stress and very safe races - unless you hope to do well, in which case I have personally witnessed some world record holding trail runners crash and burn. It is a much different kind of running. I hope I see you doing one of those sometime before too long. (You have plenty of time.)

    Love this. Living vicariously through your trip. Aren't running friends the best? 🥰
    I'm no pro and I don't know how well you dilute your LMNT drink, but could high sodium levels contribute to the gastro distress?
    Keep on kicking! 💛

      I dilute it so it's 1g sodium per 1L water, which is what I need for heavy sweat activities. That's what I train with, so I don't think that caused the distress. It was more likely the carbs, because I am used to taking those in on the bike, but less so on a hard run!

    Every race needs a taco truck and a hose to spray you down at the finish. Randy looked like he really enjoyed the soaking.

    Was surprised to hear you were looking at utmb thought people like yourself would be too busy. The race is amazing. Zach in the interview I did more vert less distance training he took lots of sodium. Howd they do it?? Just another level of endurance.
