    Good to know:
    1. you can leave the sensor/lens cap on
    2. tape your paper to your desk, where you write your sections and put your screws
    3. make sure you use the right screwdriver: not too big and not too small, you need a snug fit so that you don t strip the screw

Canon made these cameras on a way so you'd better take them to the super expensive repair service. The funny thing is, that my wheel was already replaced by the licensed service when I had the shutter curtain replaced and since they were there, they replaced the wheel for an extra $150 (while the plastic/rubber wheel is only $8 on Aliexpress and whole wheel unit with the electronics included is only $39) but apparently they did not do a good job since the rubber on the new one was worse than my original one. What a marketing driven "for sure it will break soon" design. Great video, thanks a lot for taking your time and making it!

@@moksavideo2238 glad to have you here. At least they made the cameras well enough to be serviced a little bit. It could of been some plastic junk, open it 1 time and all the plastics break and it will not be like before like some laptops I opened

I got a 6D with missing rubber doors, rubber separating from the grip, loose rubber on the aperture wheel, missing rubber and icons on the mode wheel, etc. And it's full of scratches and marks. But it works perfectly fine and i got it for real cheap, like near nothing because was bundled with more equipment. So I'm watching videos, learning and preparing myself to solve all the problems in one big camera surgery. I have two questions if you can help me:
    - Which wheel did you buy? I researched and find with rubber and fully plastic. I prefer fully plastic for long term reliability.
    - Do your camera shutter button feel spongy and mushy? I only had entry level Canon cameras before and i was said that in most pro Canon cameras shutter is softer by design, without that differentiated "click" between focus and shutter release. I evaluate to change the shutter button assembly if needed

hey, thanks for stopping by I hope you get it nicely prepped up.
The wheel I bought was completely out of plastic, the link to it on aliexpress is in the video description.
As for the shutter button, it is indeed on the softer side without a strong click on the button when you press the shutter button.
Also, if you manage to glue the rubbers back on maybe you can let me know what adhesive you used 😄

    Q. Why did you take out the screws for the bottom?… I haven't done this yet, but it seems you could get away with just removing the left side, the back, and then the top. 🤔

      A. Made a mistake, then I realized I did not have to unscrew them to access that area :) I also think you can leave the battery cable rubber cover on as well, also the 6D logo.

This is how I felt as well when I first saw someone do this. I really wanted a nice aperture wheel and I gave in andbtried following along what another guy did on RUclips and ended up with a camera that did not start, and 3 extra screws that I did not find where to screw in. I had to take the camera apart again to try and fix it, and managed to do it but I still have 3 screws which I don t know where they belong 😅
If you apply the same method with the paper and pen, writing the sections and arranging the screws the way you found them on your camera you should be fine. This was my second time ever doing this and every screw went back in its place.
Thank you for stopping by ❤

Just spent a bit of time looking for replacement parts (found some). Then I got to thinking about the root cause of the problem. The rubber 'tire' slips on the plastic wheel. Two toothpicks and superglue. Gently pried on the tire with a plastic toothpick so I could judiciously place a tiny drop of superglue with another plastic toothpick. Did this on several locations around the wheel. Done, works like new again.

hey, thanks for you feedback. Unfortunately I did the exact same thing, even with the toothpick as well. I used superglue and was very cautious not to superglue everything together as I read on some forums. The problem was that I did not have that "Gorilla Glue" or whatever those guys probably from the U.S. were using on that forum. So I used just normal Chinese superglue I had around.
OK all said and done, everything was glued but it was not long before it started to get undone, the wheel started gliding around again and I got kind of frustrated and went for the wheel dial exchange and made this video. The new, also Chinese, plastic wheel has no flaws, the rubber will never go bad or the glue will never go undone because... it's a plastic wheel. It turns nice, precise and feels great.
Now, if gluing worked out fine for you, I hope it lasts you a lot so that you can enjoy taking cool photos ;)

Is this for 6Dmkii as well?

this specific wheel no, you have to buy another wheel to fit the 6mk ii: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dc6WtUr
the process should be very similar to this one. Just make sure you document your screws so that you can assemble it back :)

VERY much appreciate the video. My aperture wheel is giving me problems, I have a lot of experience with other Canon camera modifications so was just looking for some more info on the particulars. I -think- the entire aperture wheel / shutter release module is available and will likely go that route instead of just the wheel replacement. Those little springs like to fly away to freedom. I know how tough it is to do the work while also recording it - some of your sequence provides excellent detail of your knuckles along with an out of focus view of the component being worked on.

Sorry for the out of focus bits, I tried to pull focus on the important parts 😁. As for the replacement procedure, if you find the whole shutter release module for a good price, go for it. But if you say you've already got some experience, you should definitely do fine with just the wheel replacement.
In this video, this was my second time ever opening a photo camera, and managed to put all screws back in place where they were :D. The same cannot be said about my first attempt. Lessons learned :)
