Incredible creation and quite the prototype. I believe it is well within your ability to build another 2/3 scale DC-3 that will be flight worthy and you can take to the sky onboard your own 2/3 scale DC-3 experimental aircraft. Please post videos as you build the final aircraft and do preflight tests, system checks, certifications, taxi tests, and finally take to the air! We are all waiting for you to continue your project into its final outcome. I know it will take some time indeed, but we will watch.
Just saw a fellow's video who built a 2/3 scale Mustang with a Corvette Car engine. He got in and FLEW it! As I watched this, and saw all the effort, I thought you were going to fly it...
Wait your gonna spend all that time building a large scale DC-3 and it's not even gonna look like a DC-3? Didnt you guys look at reference photos I mean geeze man it was so out of scale.
Thank you! The plane was only used for 2 events and without anywhere to store it it eventually was thrown away... It seems a shame but like most things for the event and entertainment industry they are a "once and done" fabrication. If you get a chance please check out my other build... the Polar Express ruclips.net/video/lSttg3LAZJE/видео.html... it too was a once and done.
Great effort but what the hell did you do to the nose? One of the most distinctive characteristics of the DC3 is its nose and windshield - you missed it I’m afraid and such a pity coz so much time, effort, money and energy was spent on this project - even a basic 2D drawing of which there are thousands online would have had you shaping a more scale profile
You are right... I hate the nose too... it is definitely in need of some rhinoplasty.... We tried stacking foam for the nose, then carving it but it looked bad so we bought a big chunk of foam at the last minute and didn't have enough time to carve it properly then attach it and paint it. We simply cut corners on the shape.
Sunshine TV ouch man people were super harsh in the comments - I guess it’s just hard to understand why do much effort was put in to go so horribly wrong on the front end but I hear you, sounds like it was rushed.
Sorry, but it's in "Uncanny Valley". That nose profile is just wrong. It's such a distinctive feature of the original that any error there is going to spoil the whole effect. Pity, considering the obvious effort.
According to the views, over 4000 people have seen the internal structure. Although you are correct it doesn't fly, but neither does an ostrich. Its a prop, like you would find in a movie, only this time it was used at an event and not in a film.
Not having the ladder style main gear and tires misses out on the entire look I think. I know it's got other issues but to me that one thing stands out above all others.
I feel sorry for the poor guy who commented that he “failed to see the point”... The builders of this DC-3 scale replica did something that I have only dreamed of... and now maybe I’ll finally do it ...a 1/2 scale F-86 Sabrejet
First thing I noticed was the front of the fuselage. Big bulbous cabin area that in no way looks like a DC3. Not having wheel struts & tires also takes away from the look. A for effort but a D- for final effect!
@@jjbailey01 thank you for your reply to my comment all the film set builders i feel so envious love to be a part of a team that have to use you imagination but im 55 and live in the uk just a dream
HEY ALL YOU HATERS AND CRITISIZERS. GIVE THE GUY A LITTLE LOVE FOR TRYING. OH I HAVE A GREAT IDEA. BUILD ONE BETTER AND SHOW US ALL WHAT YOU CAN DO. YEAH, JUST WHAT I THOUGHT. NEVER JUDGE SOME ONE UNTIL YOU WALK IN THEIR SHOES. THAT'S IF YOU CAN EVEN PUT THEM ON.
I agree. But a roaring FAIL for aesthetics. How on earth can you carve the nose like that and not notice? It's like drawing a moustache AND a clown nose on Mona Lisa, only much worse.
Add a couple of engines, cable control and a couple of seats and the thing will fly. I design, build and fly R/C planes, have been building planes since 1963.
A DC-3 has 7 windows...is this actually a C-47 with the wide cargo doors, or is the entire thing a "similar to as seen on TV"...? I realize you put a lot of work on this but this is not a DC-3...
That's a very deep question. What is the point of anything really?... we all need something to do to fill up our time here, otherwise our lives would be.... pointless
It has landing gear... they are just skis... It's supposed to be Santa's plane landing in the snow... I wanted to have the back cargo door open with gifts spilling out of the plane and into the snow but I ran out of time... thanks for the comment and thanks for checking out my video!
Movies use items like this all the time. I think it was a good job to achieve in two weeks. Their next attempt could very well be 75% scale airworthy item.
Very good idea, awful result. The same work would be to make a really scale model instead of such a distortion and ugly thing pretending to represent the most beautiful plane ever created!
I mean if this was a young - very young underprivileged enthusiast from some 3rd world country who wanted to model a Dakota based on some blurry magazine clipping which was all he had access to I would understand and be more supportive but for someone with access to information and tools and materials to create a worthy replica this is a poor effort.
It is not a matter of third world country. I live in Mexico, a third world country, and made a full scale 1/10 foam ultralight dc3 model that even flies scale looking. It was high tech made, computer designed and cnc machined. To make a full scale 2/3 model may be easier. It is only a matter of money and space
looks great guys .
I have made smaller planes out of logs using a chainsaw and lots of sanding. You guys did a fantastic job.
Wow! Impressive workmanship! Its great to see men pursuing their passions and not care what people think.
Thanks... I want to do an X-Wing fighter next...

It's a set prop.
@@jjbailey01 Now it makes sense!
Maybe it is a first attempt go on guys
It is pretty cool
A very commendable effort especially in two weeks ! I hope this can be presented to an air museum where it can be enjoyed by more people.

It's a caricature of a DC3.
Is it rc?
Sorry, but it's in "Uncanny Valley". That nose profile is just wrong. It's such a distinctive feature of the original that any error there is going to spoil the whole effect. Pity, considering the obvious effort.
All that internal structure that can't be seen, plus...IT Doesn't FLY!!! Again...what's the point?
According to the views, over 4000 people have seen the internal structure. Although you are correct it doesn't fly, but neither does an ostrich. Its a prop, like you would find in a movie, only this time it was used at an event and not in a film.
Guess I missed the point
Ya you and me alike
Great job,but it's the ugliest DC-3 model I've ever seen.!!
It's still good
One of the sexies and secure air planes ever built
The Body of the plane is called the 'Fuselage'
It's such a shame that this model doesn't look like a DC 3 at all.
Its a stylized version of a Dc-3. I think it looks pretty cool. Sure was a lot of work.
Not having the ladder style main gear and tires misses out on the entire look I think. I know it's got other issues but to me that one thing stands out above all others.
Awesome!! Might do this with another plane some day with my friends!!
The housings around the engines are called 'Nacelles'
Wrong, the nacelle is the leading point which in this case is the nose of the fuselage. The housing around the engines are cowlings.
Why?
Why are the propellors setup to spin 'Backwards' ? ? ?
Ahhh... I see that now... good point... lucky for me no-one at the event noticed it...
I feel sorry for the poor guy who commented that he “failed to see the point”...
The builders of this DC-3 scale replica did something that I have only dreamed of... and now maybe I’ll finally do it ...a 1/2 scale F-86 Sabrejet
In your project try having a look at some blueprints so you get the shape right - I like this attempt
The nose and windshield area is completely wrong
WHY?
First thing I noticed was the front of the fuselage. Big bulbous cabin area that in no way looks like a DC3. Not having wheel struts & tires also takes away from the look. A for effort but a D- for final effect!
Wish i could be part of a team that does this sort of thing
Get into stage crew carpentry.

This must be a stage prop for a play.
Shape of the nose cone is way off
Wow chill out everyone....... A for effort....

keith freeman I wouldn’t want to be on the maiden flight.
I just can't see doing this if it doesn't fly.
That's what I was wondering. Why make the ribs like actual ribs? The could have just been solid. I thought they were going to fly the thing.
A DC-3 has 7 windows...is this actually a C-47 with the wide cargo doors, or is the entire thing a "similar to as seen on TV"...? I realize you put a lot of work on this but this is not a DC-3...
Well....you really think the nose of a DC3 looks like that??
That looks like W.C. Fields' nose.
What was the point????
That's a very deep question. What is the point of anything really?... we all need something to do to fill up our time here, otherwise our lives would be.... pointless
If landing gear (wheel) is added it might looks more attractive. But still beautiful work... salute ur passion..

What's wrong with the nose section? Nothing like DC3.
It doesn't even look like a DC-3
How can anybody be proud of this? The nose and tail are so weird.
Why build it if it’s not going to fly? Get going and finish it.😐
Movies use items like this all the time. I think it was a good job to achieve in two weeks. Their next attempt could very well be 75% scale airworthy item.
To bad it's not RC
Oh dear......
Ummm........ never mind.
DC 1 1/2
Those dummy engines !!!

were they drunk ?
DC, WHAT?
DC-3
Jajajajajaja
It looks terrible.
Awwww.... why do you have to be so mean...
Yikes! 😩
