    Thank you for paying close attention to these wonderful smaller companies with unique offerings! Always special to also get your insights on design and any history of certain topologies. I ran across this amp and was very curious about how it sounded. Have you considered trying the Orchard Audio power amps? Maybe with Leo's new streamer...thanks again🙏

    Nice review Tarun, fair and balanced with some sensible suggestions. It is worth noting that ZinAmp also works very hard in supporting the DIY community, so basically if you felt adventurous and with a little help from the manufacturer you are able to build your own version which could look however you imagined….could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing with that performance but with the vintage look of a 70’s Akai?
    I have completed several ZinAmp based projects and it has been a ton of fun and I have learned a great deal along the way, no way could I have afforded to purchase an amplifier with this quite remarkable sound quality but the DIY route has delivered something very special! Thanks ZinAmp!! And keep up the great reviews Tarun!!

  • @mosfet500
    @mosfet500 2 дня назад +5

    Thanks Tarun.
    This class A/B notch distortion is a thing of the past, we just don't see it anymore. I've checked amps on 350 Meg scopes and the technology is so good now that you can't see or hear it. In fact the complaint about crossover distortion was that it fatigues the listener after listening for awhile and I'm not seeing people complain about that.
    Good luck to this company but I don't like the layout, the front cabinet design or the heavily brushed front panel. Usually that's done to mask inferior craftsmanship, the sharp edges lead me to believe I'm right on this. No remote at the price of this unit is unacceptable too.
    I'm all for boutique component producers but I'll pass this amp by.

    Capacitors are actually pronounced "Cor-nell Doo-bill-ee-er" and at 9:12 you have a couple of resistors that look quite burnt. The pair either side of the "pp" of "LV Supply" silk screening. Maker might want to up the wattage of those before they fail.

    I'm fairly sure the case is the run of the mill AliExpress aluminium case, just with a bespoke front plate (I have a clone A1 amp that looks very similar externally and costs £130 + shipping). The internals might be high-end but I agree the external design, quality and finish needs to be top notch when charging £2k+ for an amplifier.

    Thanks for the video. Hope you’re feeling better. Interesting amp. I usually like black equipment but it still looks cool to me. I’m a fan of small shops making equipment. It’s kind of like craft beer years ago. I like individual equipment so an integrated amp that’s just a preamp and amp is fine. To answer your question, a DAC and or streamer from a small company. May I suggest the Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC and the Red streamer. I have the Cyan 2 and it’s the best DAC I’ve heard in the $2K US price range. Rock on!

  • @timleelim9930
    @timleelim9930 2 дня назад +1

    I appreciate very much your having gone through the internals of the amp. Being from a generation where hifi products had service manuals available to third party techs, I faced a situation of a 'modern' amp failure made by a not all that small manufacturer who used proprietary parts. As it seemed to have severed ties with its factory (in an Asian country) and its previous distributors and don't seem interested in answering emails from its European HQ (the company scaled down and look to be still operating after a period of 'dormancy'), there was no repair support and the amp looks destined to move on to its next role as boat ballast. One wonders if it is worth taking a risk on a small manufacturer in this day and age unless there is some certainty of long term serviceability. On the other side of the equation, independent repair techs seem to be closing shop due to the natural aging out process with not enough next gen replacements filling the shortage.

  • @jimfarrell4635
    @jimfarrell4635 День назад +1

    It definitely has that hand made look, which isn't a bad thing. I agree about the ergonomics and would have liked to see some internal shielding between boards. However it would be a joy to work on and I suspect there may be some scope for upgrading components.
    A great amp for the enthusiast.
    Edit. I commend the addition of a baby loudness control. A sadly missed feature of vintage amps.

Their VM200 power amp (hybrid valve-mosfet) has similar sound characteristics to the Zinamp I guess. And their ZAX70 integrated is a real steal for the price. The saying that "You eat with your eyes" regarding dining applies equally to audio component design. To work so hard and put so much passion into your product and NOT to make it well designed is disappointing. The new Galion amps also suffer from this problem. There are plenty of good designers out there to have them run their trained eyes over your precious product.

I had excellent customer service there when purchasing their Reference DAC about 6 months ago.. Its a beautifully built and sounding piece of kit to my ear. Very well engineered, using a venerable Wolfson/Cirrus Chip - WM8741.
    I cant fault the way they run the business, the support, or response to customers, nor the look and sound of the product. Very much a tiny British venture, but with a long track record, which also appealed to me when looking for a quality UK DAC.

Frankly, if you haven't lost a finger or two on a heatsink, suffered full-thickness burns from your original A1 amp, electrocuted yourself using an artisan hifi product lacking even basic electrical safety features or burnt down your house due to an uncertified hifi power kord, you can not call yourself a true audiophile. WoW ... Sorry but .... there's NO EXCUSE for those Mega Sharp ''Slice Your Fingers Open'' Heat-Sinks ! ! .. And Naim, I am also looking at you ! ! .... Any 'exposed' heat-sinks should ( By Law ) have Safe, Rounded Off Corners ... Look at the excellent Quad Artera Pre & Power. ( No Sliced Hands / Fingers Here ) .. I wouldn't buy this Amp purely because of that heat-sink 'design' ! .... Time for the assembly line to ''Get the Files out'' ! ! ....

      A little bit of design input wouldn’t have harmed the product but this is clearly not aimed at customers that value that and features above all else. One for traditionalists. I completely missed though whether this has R/C and will re-watch that section. A must for any product these days imho (even for purists).

      💯 I have a number of other things in my apartment such as grill covers for an AC unit that had sharp edged aluminum- I had to spend quite a while, grinding down the corners of these so I could stop cutting my fingers every time I wanted to turn on or turn off the AC😡😡

    Great review, but why not just buy an old Quad current dumping amplifier and refurbish it with new capacitors ?

      I have built several DIY ZinAmp projects now and from the very first listen I knew that it was something quite special, made me retire my previously excellent Luxman! Support is also first class .
