My "Genious Idea" on removing the broken off Heater Hose Quick Connect on 1989 Chevy

  • My 1989 Chevrolet pickup has a coolant connection between the intake manifold and the heater core, which was originally a quick connect. Unfortunately it was leaking and it broke off by just pulling on it.
How was I going to get the rest off the fitting out of the hole? Would it take removal of the entire manifold? I had a genius idea and I’m sharing it here.
This is also part 13 of the truck overhaul series.

Those pieces are soft metal, you can usually chip out the piece broken off in the manifold with a chisel pretty easily. Also you can buy those pieces , no need to spend 6 hours repairing them, when you can replace in 30 mins. including chipping out the old one.

Sounds like you're doing this every day. It honestly took me a lot longer than 30 minutes to get this out, but definitely not 6 hours. 🙂

If the desired result was to re-install a hose to the intake- and you already tapped it with a pipe thread tap- I would find a fitting that screws in to the pipe thread that has the correct size nipple on it for the water hose?

Good thought, but I really wanted to get all that cheap garbage metal from the original fitting out of there. It was more work, but the result is worth it.
