That first little girl was so cute! I loved it when she said: "I think she's brown, brown Ariel is cute", that made my heart melt 🥰Also that one little boy was funny when he said: "She's black! YES! YES! YES! YES!" 🤣
I wasn’t upset when Disney did this, but I didn’t understand it.. after seeing this 1st time, it clicked.. THIS IS WHY!
Thank you for your honesty ❤
Couldn’t say it any better
Sadly, none of the children went to watch the movie, so it bombed.
in THIS country, it did very well.
Not so much in China/Korea…unfortunately they just couldn’t get past her race
@@starscream6478Black panther was a huge success in both of those countries. Race has got nothing to do with its box office failure. The movie just sucks
Got tears in my eyes watching their little faces light up but the sad fact is we know WHY this is such a big deal for them & THAT is what makes this so poignant.
And what about white children? Besides it is white written story
Imagine being so stupid and racist that you actually believe these coached reactions. What's actually sad here is the racists raising their kids to only ever be able to connect with characters that are the same skin color as them.
When we were little kid's we had much the same reaction when we seen an Irish themed film or even an Irish character.
Great to see the little kids so happy but it's ashame that seeing black people as princessses in their own country is so rare that it's a novelty.
@@Minime163
Maybe because America has never had any real princesses and the European ones - real or imaginary - were obviously... white?
What a shame most of their parents couldn't name an actual African princess either.
What this means to these beautiful children is worth all of the backlash in the world! Fuck these wypipo. She was PERFECT
This is why representation matters! That kids of color are so used to NOT seeing themselves in the media, that simply seeing someone who looks like them brings such joy. In an ideal world it wouldn’t have to be like this and it shouldn’t have to be.
Yes exactly now make tiana from the princess frog ukrainian and make the black panther cast asian and everything will be fair
@@xxxzachyd960 seeing as though princess and the frog was about a real black women during segregation & mulan was about a Chinese girl in CHINA & the black panther was in AFRICA ..I don’t see why they would be any other race lol..the litter mermaid is a fish and the original story she was green not white .learn ya facts

Gotcha
Yes, as a 66 year old white man this shows why representation matters. From my understanding Nicole Nichols had the same sort of effect when Star Trek came out in the 1960's. If one can watch this and not feel it in their heart there is something seriously wrong with that person.
fr
Nicole had her own original character that set a staple for good representation. This is recycled trash by comparison and they easily could have given the audience someone new and unique while filling the same shoes better.

I'm a 63 yr old black male, extremely priceless.
I remember as a child going to a Renaissance faire with my black friend and looking through the merch shops at these little fairy statues. She was picking them up and putting them down and moving and looking for a fairy and she muttered that she wished they had black fairies.
That was the first time it hit me how little black people see themselves in everything and especially see themselves as beautiful, mystical beings or women. Really special now that they will have this.
That's true. The little black girl I was, grew up hating her frizzy hair because there was no princess who had hers lone that (I was adopted at 13 months by a white couple so I didn't have a black model).

I think you guys need to get a life. I can't believe there are this many people who are arguing about what color a mermaid is. The new Ariel being black doesn't change anything about the original Disney movie. If you love the white little mermaid that you remember from childhood then guess what? Watch it again. It's still the same. Nothing has changed that. Now there's just a new version that has a black girl playing Ariel. The only thing anyone should be talking about concerning this new, slightly darker version of Ariel is how the face of those precious little babies light up when they see her. Honestly...what could possibly be wrong with something that brings so much happiness. And if you still just don't like it then don't watch it. Y'all love each other. I'd say it is, they're seeing their favorite Disney princess be represented in a way that makes them feel seen. Plus, if you want white Ariel, you can just watch the original movies.
Easy to say for you. Im not going to assume your race but as a POC myself, growing up and watching all the disney movies and princesses, i would always think about how none of them looked like me. I dont think anyone who hasnt been underrepresented before understand what it truly means to be a kid and feel like they are finally being seen. That they are prince and princesses too, just like the princesses they grow up watching.
Regarding your comment of kids focusing on race, I assure you sir, as a kid, when the white race is all i saw on TV, race became everything i ever saw everywhere. Trust me, if i had POC disney princesses growing up, i wouldn't feel how I did when i was a child.

@@diiiiapril8708 I am not a black person and I dont live in the US so It might be difficult to relate to your experience or thought, but I am also not white. As a kid I never questioned why the characters in disney animations don't have the same race as I. I just watched the story and the characters, and it never mattered what race or ethnicity they had. US is more sensitive to diverse representation, but I think the quality of story and the chatacter should be considered first than their race and ethnicity or sexual identity. I feel like making Ariel black is a rather a racist act because Disney pursued zero effort on digging out new original African or black folklores, and thinks that race swapping the original character to sacrafice the original plot is the way to make black race represented.

this is sad. children at that age shouldn’t be focusing on the color of a character’s skin. a child with no indoctrination would be happy and excited to see a gorgeous looking mermaid. they wouldn’t care if she was white, black or blue. this was taught by the parents and is not their natural reaction. y’all don’t ever see white children say “yes yes yes they’re white”. that would even be considered racist. or if you look back to your childhood, did you ever think “yes she’s black!” “yes she’s white!” “yes she’s brown!” no you did not. you didn’t care what her race was. you were excited because she was a princess or something else really cool. honestly really really sad to see. we’re all human after all. skin color shouldn’t matter, and especially not to such young kids.
Girl, it’s about representation- ever heard of that? How can you expect that someone is NOT aware of their own skin colour?! talking about representation…many black people, including my family and friends, don’t even want to be represented this way. picking old movies and changing the original character’s race? nah man, black people are deserving of their own movies too! new movies, with their own story. if i’d want to be represented, i’d want to be represented for real. picking old movies is an easy way out. they’re not even trying to make new good movies with actual black characters. these remakes are so stupid and not something to be proud of.

I really want to show this to my mum because she was going on and on about how she thought the new movie was stupid and they shouldn't have made Ariel black. I told her it doesn't affect her or her day to day life so she shouldn't have a problem with it, all that matters is that little girls of colour get to see themselves as mermaids and princesses. She told me kids don't care whether a character is black or white and I desperately want to show her she is wrong, that it means so much to these little kids, maybe she can learn from that and improve on herself. I'm tired of fighting with her over things she doesn't even understand.
To add, my mother's step-dad is black and he raised her since she was five years old, how she can have so much internalised racism is surprising to me.
Look at these gorgeous girls, so excited to see themselves in the new Ariel ❤
Disneys movie story lost their essence just for F representation

It's because of the shock and joy of these kids being represented that highlights the very reason why this is so important, needed and has been missing!
these kids are way too small to even know what it's like to be affected by racism! This is staged and their parents told them to be this happy! If anything this is actually ruining them because it teaches them they can only idolize someone if they're the same color as them.

What have you all been teaching your kids? I’m Hispanic and I never looked for someone who “looked like me” in movies. That’s outrageous 😂😂🤣🤣
I'm portuguese, and to an American sort of Hispanic looking. Since a lot of us pass as white, and even if we didn't, there's still more representation than for black people, it's hard to understand. Black kids don't usually experience this kind of representation, for big characters, so it's perfectly natural for them to be surprised at seeing it.

They’ve been teaching them narcissism.
Some of these got me all tingly and misty-eyed. Some sadly felt forced and coached.
When the kids are allowed to be themselves it shows in spades. You can't force or fake such innocence. And when you try.. it reflects poorly on the one trying.
The bad thing about this is it teaches us about colors of skin being “different”. The more we change to point things out the more it becomes a central point of discussion. Never have I once came across a black person and said “wow, your black. It must be cool to be black. I’ll make sure I treat you as equally as my white friends” no I treat everyone how they treat me regardless of how you look. If you came to me and bough race into it I would immediately attempt to avoid you or keep my interactions with you low. Not because I’m racist, but because you were

Seeing the joy in there faces made me rethink , at first you might wanna argue that they shouldn’t change Ariel , but stories change , and just look at the joy and impact it has on those children , they kept saying “ she’s like me “ three simple words that mean more than people realize . You're acting like princess Tiana don't exist 💀 and she STILL don't have her movie yet, but what's the point, she won't even be black 90% of the movie! Believe me im all for them kids feeling a connection with a character because they're same race as them but like you said, they can create new original character's that can have the same effect, so your logic is contradictory. The fact that this is not a cartoon or an animated picture already means that this is a new take on the Little Mermaid because it's live action/actors playing these roles. I guarantee if she was a white actor who was stunning and played the role well, children from all across the world would still have smiles on their faces because of the nostalgia factor and it's an updated version of something they always loved. You're right, stories change but that doesn't mean to always change the character's race/appearance because you either think they're outdated with that race/appearance or you want appeal to that race, if not create new characters for representation like I said! Remember, the internet is not raging because she is a black character, we are upset because Hollywood keeps doing this and people like you try to justify it with contradictory logic, "oh it needs to be updated" or "so what😂" but what let's take cyborg and make him white, the community will have a field day with that. Matter fact let's talk about all the races and minorities who have either yet to see a princess of them or even a story that properly represents them, but we can ignore that because these heartwarming reactions of these kids not understanding they're being manipulated to this stupidity.
wet dreads
I'm actually glad she's black in this live adaptation. But let's not focus on color. Let's just all enjoy the story.
Calling out colors only divides us more
Yah
So your comment is meant to divide?
Not all these are blind reactions. I hate when parents prep their kids. It’s just so obviously fake.
Some, not all tho
@@pregnantleggies3696 Most of them If not all. Children don't care about race.

Lots of disgusting people in this comment section. The "I don't see color" crowds sure are seeing some colors today. They only say that to try to dismiss the fact that they do see color and don't want to acknowledge it. Of course you see color. We all do. We should be appreciative of and celebrate the different colors and different peoples we have that that contribute to the collective beauty of the world. We all add something. Stop acting like that fact that she's black takes something from you.
How come we haven't seen any little black girls react the exact same way like in these TikTok videos when they see themselves being represented via Tiana (a.k.a. the first ever black Disney Princess in history, let alone an actual original black Disney character nevertheless) from Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" when it first came out in 2009? 🙄😒
Ikr, and if we made Tiana white in irl movie, they will say we are rascist 😢
Ariel’s new look? ‘Sea-sunburn chic’,because who doesn’t want to turn their undersea tan into a fashion statement?
Ariel’s been under the sea, but now she’s looking like she’s been on the beach for a year straight!
I just don’t get racism about color????????? in my eyes we all the same. We all share the same color of blood there ain’t no black or white blood

I’m just imagining how angry people would be if a black character got turned to white
black people get no representation. white people do. 🤦♀️
U know this comment don’t make me happy
Because in kinda a lot black movies there race really matters
@@lalamc3777 i’m stating my opinion, i dont care what people say because im saying that if a white character turned into a black character, people will be fine with it, but if a black character turns into a white character, people will say it’s racist, how is that fair
@@maddi_d maybe because I think the past white people would make black peoples slaves because of there skin how is that fair ?
I wonder how many flops Hollywood will go through doing this, losing money until they leave these already established movies alone and start making new movies with black actors
I’m white but I feel so happy for them. I love that they cast a black woman as Ariel.
If Ariel was white they would have had the same reactions
Ariel’s been under the sea, but now she’s looking like she’s been on the beach for a year straight!
Ariel’s sunburn was so intense, even Poseidon’s asking her for tanning tips!
I highly disrespect racism. Black Ariel is amazing as a white person I am glad!
Disney downfall has started

This is the worst decision in Disney history. Ariel is not black!
😂😂😂 I know right! Come closer let me tell you a secret…Don’t pass out but….she’s not a real person either! 😮😂😂😂

I agree with GK.
There’s literally zero black mermaids I can think of in popular culture.
Let the kids have this. We need more mermaid diversity in general.
@@linachan4912 There is only 1 mermaid in pop culture and it just so happens that she wasn't black. Instead of shamelessly blackwashing her, maybe make an original character?
@@sbonel3224 maybe look at all of the other original characters out there and let people have this one? she's literally a fictional fish lady who cares

@@ThatDragonSlayer bruh get a life. She’s just trying to be wholesome and u gotta make it seem creepy and hateful. It’s truly pitiful.
am i the only one who finds it so weird that the first thing the kids kotice is the mermaid’s race…? like they arent in awe bc of the movie itself but more just because she is black
personally it just feels like marketing to me lol
....did no one show these kids a black character before this? This is kinda dumb...
White person here, I am sorry for all the cringey and racist comments of other people. I am happy to see a black Ariel!
Narcissists.
Il not narcissisme it just that it rare that Disney put à black princess so all black perplexe happy
Where are the reactions of White young girls seeing their Ariel wasn't as original anymore?
There is still 3 mermaid movies that has an white Ariel they can always watch those!
@@deerodriguez8992yes, you're right but that doesn't change the fact that Hollywood is lazy and did the unnecessary race bending for "representation". I'm all for representation but please do it right, create some new characters don't switch an already existing character's appearance to appeal a specific race because that's racism and tokenism. Not watching the new movie also doesn't change the fact that this is an official movie whether it's a continuance or not, I don't know why alot of these oldheads try to justify this like they wouldn't be going on their rants if like pop eye the sailor man and Betty boop came on the big screen and were a different race with a different style.
They don’t give a f because if they want, there are many others good représentations of girls who looks like them in the media contrary to black girls 😉

Let them be happy all white and black ppl should enjoy Disney
Now we need Mexican mulan, white Tiana and other princesses who are from Iceland, Greenland, thailand, china, Russia, Ukraine, India, Japan, Europe , Korea and etc etc 🙄🙄😒😒
In Tiana and Mulan's stories, race was a central part. Merida's race is central to her character as well. Ariel's race isn't central to her character, you can change her race and her story will still make sense. (also Europe is a continent, not a country. You were probably thinking of the United kingdom)
