SORRY FOR THE REPOST THE OTHER VERSION HAD NO CAPTIONS!!! This clip was taken from my Twitch stream and there's more where this one came from!! I'll try to edit them all soon into shorts, but if you're looking for the full thing I recommend my live streams, my regular videos (not shorts) and my vods channel @marikyuunvods
That's a very good and interesting advice. If i were to start drawing, I don't think i would come even close to this trick. Honestly, it's really nice to know stuff like that
I was taught shading traditionally and what I was told was that not only are shadows darker, they’re also more saturated and, in the case of skin, redder, so yeah this all checks out
I'm sorry, but it is not possible to condense 20 years of drawing every single day into a 1-min tutorial. I did not start with this art style, I stylized when I already had lots of fundamentals and experience with "more realistic styles" at 18 or 19 years old 🙏
I rarely see strong advice for art styles like this, so thank you so much!! I also really love how you sprinkle in art tips in your other videos 🥰 A lot of people downplay the level of skill and knowledge that goes into “cute” artwork
I do the same for how to shade, but not for the color. I personally go the opposite of the light source. And if that's not available, i go for purple, but i do love your art and coloring style, and it does help a lot.
The explanation to why the skin creates this more bright red shade when is close to the light line actually is because the longer lights waves literally bounces inside our skin. That's why when you put a finger over a flashlight it will glow red or even orange :) So this means that the red tone part on the skin shadows is just light bouncing towards this area
In pixelart the shading coloring you make is called "hueshift", basically you use different colors to shade a main color (like orange to red, red to purple...) idk if that helps ya to explain how you shade 😶🌫️
How is it any different for traditional artists? I'm helping you pick colors so I don't understand why these concepts don't translate to pens/pencils/paints /GenQ
@@Marikyuun I use traditonal sometimes aswell and it would work the same just for things like pencils its harder to find that correct colour following those steps as you only have a certian amount of pencils. but for paints and some markers It would work the same!
@@Marikyuun yea as cookie said, the concept is the same but it’s a bit harder because we can’t really pull up a wheel to find colors, and I specifically am sort of restricted with the colors I can use
No, not all skin has red undertones. Some have red, others green, others have blue, some even have a more neutral gray. You can look it up! Its very interesting and leveraging the spectrum of different undertones helps diversify characters. In fact, the most common skin undertone leans on the more warm, yellow side.
I was just watching a video where they rendered a bit more realistically and all they did was pick the environment's background color and used it as a multiply layer for shading and that blew my tiny brain.
At 13:07 literally almost the animation fandom in the past 😭❤ (Especially the Piggy fandom back then) Though it's crazy that most of the songs i know are Vocaloid! 😮
Idk if it’s BAD but I usually do something similar but then add a multiply layer and mess with the opacity of the shading layer to get a specific shade I like lol
So we all noticed how Nene could not do the double spin, but I would like to mention that at 1:06, she jumps a noticeably shorter height then all the others lmao
I literally couldn’t tell the difference between the two shadow colors. (The one that was “too yellow” and the red one.) Is it just me and my lack of experience? Or am I colorblind 😅 Also I love your videos 😊

Her Vtuber character drawing on the tablet is so cute.
That looks a little pretty! 💖
I've recently started shading skin with pink (or sometimes desaturated purple). I think it looks nice.
Heck yeah!
I didn't know you made a tutorial tysm for this!
then, you dissect a human body and shine it towards your real life light source to get it perfectly
i remember watching u explain this on stream! super useful

Thank you for your work,I made you fanart

I literally couldn’t tell the difference between the two shadow colors. (The one that was “too yellow” and the red one.) Is it just me and my lack of experience? Or am I colorblind 😅
Also I love your videos 😊
arigato for this
me who draws only with graphite pencil:
I mean not everyone's skin has a red undertone ;v;
Well if I actually drew people, this would be very handy. Can this be done with different colors? Like green or red dragons for example?
I was at this stream
I just use orange:0
15 MINS LES GOOOOOOOOO
How about black characters? Also go to red?
Yes?? Everyone has blood vessels 😭
@@Marikyuun I've seen people go to purple so it always made me confused XD
