On top of this, I believe that the orange Kirby is instead based on his recoloured sprite from Kirby’s Adventure, whenever he gains a copy ability (excluding ice and crash, to my memory). It doesn’t make sense to me that it would reference such a deep and unimportant cut like a reskin from the Flagship-developed titles, and I think that a Kirby’s Adventure nod makes a bit more sense. On the inverse, the red, green, and yellow Kirby palettes ARE from Amazing Mirror, as well as Air Ride, though they themselves were derived from the Kiibi and Super Star ability reskins originally.
Though Nintendo probably wouldn't admit to it, I feel like Ness' black and yellow color is a reference to Charlie Brown from Peanuts which is what Earthbound drew inspiration from. Also in Captain Falcon's Blood Falcon costume, the Bloodhawk logo is on his back.

Those "random colors" had more of a history than Fire Mario did for the most part, both in terms of when they first appeared in Smash Brothers and when what they're referencing was released. I do agree that Nintendo should have gotten rid of a costume in favor of keeping Fire Mario, though. It's such an iconic look for him, and I know I'll probably get lambasted for saying this, but I don't think Mario needed both the builder and wedding outfits. Regardless, if I were in charge, I would have gave the Waluigi Mario the boot; it was a costume that isn't used much at all, and it just doesn't make sense to give Mario a costume based on Waluigi when the lanky man in purple is meant to be Luigi's doppelgänger.

Now that I think about it, Nintendo could have taken the opportunity to give Fox a proper blue color scheme by having him wear a blue uniform and giving him slightly blue fur to make him resemble Krystal (especially as a way of making up for her not becoming playable due to her being an Assist Trophy instead).

Much of DK's colors were actually present in "Donkey Kong 64", which could be found in the game's multiplayer mode, and the players can even choose the color for their character if they don't want to use the default color of that character.
Pardon me for saying this, but...I believe that Smash 4 is the best game when it came to alternate costumes. It introduced colors for most Brawl veterans as well as alternate character skins, such as the Koopalings. With Ultimate, it seems as if some characters either lost colors or had some nerfed. This isn't a deal breaker or anything, but I do feel that the previous Smash game had a better selection of skins in general...
I was so disappointed when I found out he has a Crafted World skin but not a Woolly World skin. Come on, we all know Woolly World Yoshi looks best. Maybe if this game didn't needlessly restrict costumes to 8 per character, we'd actually be able to get all the Yoshi colors, plus Woolly World Yoshi in various colors and Crafted World Yoshi in various colors.
Just something I noticed: the Jigglypuff costume with the straw hat isn't from the Bug Catcher, I believe it's from Yellow, a female core character in the Pokémon Adventures Manga. Maybe, idk I just don't think linking it to a Bug Catcher seems right. Great video tho! :D

Although not all of them are plot related, many of them are. Although, I'm actually not including the first "Metroid" game as an example, because as notable as that twist was, it didn't really mean anything for the actual plot of that game or its remake.
I'm so happy that this series is back, and greater than ever! Keep up the great work aaron!! Also, in celebration, for each video, I will be giving my personal FAVORITE costume for each fighter. So yes, this will be biased and opinionated. MARIO: I personally can't decide. The wedding outfit is really nice, but a little overrated in my opinion. For me, it's a tie between the Builder Outfit and his 3rd Alt, the Blue and Pinkish one. DONKEY KONG: Green DK. I'm a green donkey kong main so... yeah this is my favorite. LINK: I personally like his breath of the wild appearance better without his hat, and think that his 5th alt is best. I really like the dark outfit, and how the streaks of red contrast it. Additionally, I think that the shield in this outfit looks really cool. I like the inverted colors. SAMUS: Blue, red, and yellow (Color alt 2). Moving on. YOSHI: Unpopular opinion, but I think that crafted yoshi is freaking adorable. It is my favorite color alt. While on the topic, I wish that we still had black yoshi, and that they got rid of purple yoshi. Oh well... KIRBY: Kirby is already perfect as a pink puffball. His default color is my personal favorite. FOX: Fox got a major upgrade in this game visually. Honestly, all of his outfits look really crisp. I like the grey, yellow, and green one best. PIKACHU: Pikachu Libre :3 She's so cute!! LUIGI: Luigi's alts are all alright, but I personally think that his default color scheme is most appealing. NESS: I like Ness's second alt best, the white and red one. It reminds me of a fire flower. CAPTAIN FALCON: Captain Falcon has some great alternates. First off, I love that they fixed his golden falcon color. It used to be very bland, cheese colored, but it is now shiny and golden. I love that. It's very hard to say, because my top 3 falcon colors are his black, golden, and green ones. If I had to pick one, most likely his black alt. JIGGLYPUFF: I personally like bow Jigglypuff best (color alt 7).

This has probably already been pointed out, but the “Mass Produced” Samus is a Gundam reference, but not to the Gundam itself. The villain faction, Zeon, likes to paint their mass produced mobile suits green, most famously the Zaku (which is likely what Is being referenced in the Samus costume) and the Gelgoog.
It's very funny that you said a "nod" to the kirby series, because the enemies that kirby inhales to get the sleep ability is named "Noddy", a pun of "nodding off" to sleep.

12:45 I think Ness' blue outfit is suppose to represent possessed people in Earthbound. People under Gigyas' influence (it's vague if he's outright possessing them) get a blue and purple sprite flip. There is also a Blue hatted Ness reflected in the Devil Machine when it opens up before you fight it.
8:18 - Kirby had a blue palette swap for his ice copy abilities in Kirby's Adventure on the NES that appeared first and actually resembles this alt color more. I know this, because as a kid I would always get an ice copy ability just to play as blue kirby.
If you load Super Mario Land 2 on a Gameboy colour, he looks like the blue/pink alt, also. I knew this piece of trivia, would be useful one day. It only took- 18 years..

Much of DK's colors were actually present in "Donkey Kong 64", which could be found in the game's multiplayer mode, and the players can even choose the color for their character if they don't want to use the default color of that character.

Pardon me for saying this, but...I believe that Smash 4 is the best game when it came to alternate costumes.
It introduced colors for most Brawl veterans as well as alternate character skins, such as the Koopalings.
With Ultimate, it seems as if some characters either lost colors or had some nerfed. This isn't a deal breaker or anything, but I do feel that the previous Smash game had a better selection of skins in general...

I was so disappointed when I found out he has a Crafted World skin but not a Woolly World skin. Come on, we all know Woolly World Yoshi looks best.
Maybe if this game didn't needlessly restrict costumes to 8 per character, we'd actually be able to get all the Yoshi colors, plus Woolly World Yoshi in various colors and Crafted World Yoshi in various colors.

Just something I noticed: the Jigglypuff costume with the straw hat isn't from the Bug Catcher, I believe it's from Yellow, a female core character in the Pokémon Adventures Manga.
Maybe, idk I just don't think linking it to a Bug Catcher seems right.

@@jackyspearow I don't really think a character's gender can be considered a plot twist except in that one Phoenix Wright case. If you've played it then you know what I mean.
@@JaelinBezel There are numerous fictional stories where a character's gender is a notable plot twist. Look up "Gender Reveal" on TV Tropes for a lot of good examples. Although not all of them are plot related, many of them are.
Although, I'm actually not including the first "Metroid" game as an example, because as notable as that twist was, it didn't really mean anything for the actual plot of that game or its remake.

Also, in celebration, for each video, I will be giving my personal FAVORITE costume for each fighter. So yes, this will be biased and opinionated.
MARIO: I personally can't decide. The wedding outfit is really nice, but a little overrated in my opinion. For me, it's a tie between the Builder Outfit and his 3rd Alt, the Blue and Pinkish one.
DONKEY KONG: Green DK. I'm a green donkey kong main so... yeah this is my favorite.
LINK: I personally like his breath of the wild appearance better without his hat, and think that his 5th alt is best. I really like the dark outfit, and how the streaks of red contrast it. Additionally, I think that the shield in this outfit looks really cool. I like the inverted colors.
SAMUS: Blue, red, and yellow (Color alt 2). Moving on.
YOSHI: Unpopular opinion, but I think that crafted yoshi is freaking adorable. It is my favorite color alt. While on the topic, I wish that we still had black yoshi, and that they got rid of purple yoshi. Oh well...
KIRBY: Kirby is already perfect as a pink puffball. His default color is my personal favorite.
FOX: Fox got a major upgrade in this game visually. Honestly, all of his outfits look really crisp. I like the grey, yellow, and green one best.
PIKACHU: Pikachu Libre :3 She's so cute!!
LUIGI: Luigi's alts are all alright, but I personally think that his default color scheme is most appealing.
NESS: I like Ness's second alt best, the white and red one. It reminds me of a fire flower.
CAPTAIN FALCON: Captain Falcon has some great alternates. First off, I love that they fixed his golden falcon color. It used to be very bland, cheese colored, but it is now shiny and golden. I love that. It's very hard to say, because my top 3 falcon colors are his black, golden, and green ones. If I had to pick one, most likely his black alt.
JIGGLYPUFF: I personally like bow Jigglypuff best (color alt 7).
As a yoshi main, I agree with you, I also wish they had an orange alt

Green, red, blue, pink, yellow, light blue, black, and white
That would be a wonderful reference to the eight yoshis you can unlock in Yoshi Story for the Nintendo 64.

The Champion’s Tunic makes Link look too much like a generic anime swordsman. The green tunic look is just too iconic to replace.

This has probably already been pointed out, but the “Mass Produced” Samus is a Gundam reference, but not to the Gundam itself. The villain faction, Zeon, likes to paint their mass produced mobile suits green, most famously the Zaku (which is likely what Is being referenced in the Samus costume) and the Gelgoog.

People under Gigyas' influence (it's vague if he's outright possessing them) get a blue and purple sprite flip.
There is also a Blue hatted Ness reflected in the Devil Machine when it opens up before you fight it.

I think everyone's noticed. It's been that way for years. It's just normal at this point, so no one really brings it up.
People just have facial hair color different from their normal hair, just like blonde people sometimes have black eyebrows
