There are other recordings of her singing this Aria at her best.

Well, I won't judge. I love them all but as an Italian, Renata Tebaldi always holds a special place in my hearts. In the '50s, Callas and Tebaldi each had those proclaiming that their favorite was the best. I don't see that type of fervor anymore. Unfortunate.

her control was absolute perfection. that first high note often becomes shrill or goes a little flat in others, even for Renee Fleming for example. but Madam Caballe....never!
She was great, but being objective there were many other singers who were superior: Adelina Patti, Nellie Melba, Tetrazzini, Callas, Destinn, Emma Calvè, Rosa Raisa.
All these sopranos are top grade. Have to say though, that at 77 years of age I cannot hold an opinion on Dame Nellie Melba. However, Dame Joan Sutherland was without doubt the greatest of the twentieth century. Callas was up and down in her performances. Got several of her CDs lots of good pieces. But. Dame Joan consistent. Great pity that Kathleen Ferrier died so young.
Montserrat Caballé owns this aria even in this recording. Fiatto amazing. Callas changed opera world and She deserved and deserves all our respect and admiration. 😍 this video

Not a huge Callas fan, but this does a great disservice to her because it is really at the very end of her career during a “comeback” that never took flight-after vocal and physical ailments had done damage to her voice. Ten Aldo is great but also later in her career when the bloom was almost off the rose. Same situation with Caballe. At their best, Netrebko is not even the same universe. She will be forgotten next week.

C'est un opera buffa très proche de la commedia dell'arte, la scène n'est ni dramatique (on sait, comme le personnage lui-même, que le père se laissera attendrir), ni ultra-romantique (c'est un peu un caprice de jeunesse, dans son charme, sa vérité, mais aussi son ingénuité et son côté superficiel et joué). Et tout cela transparaît chez Callas (enregistrement sonore et vidéo de 1965!). L'équilibre des sentiments et des intentions dans le genre buffa est délicat! "Mon papounet chéri..." : ce n'est pas un "air romantique", mais un air de comédie tendre et délicatement romantique, mais un peu drôle aussi : on doit sentir la fille qui sait comment manipuler son père! Tebaldi est bien trop peu comédienne. Les tempi trop lents son insupportables et déplacés, quelques soient les beautés des voix ou l'exceptionnelle technique (Caballe). Le miracle, c'est que c'est dans son contexte dramatique réel et sa légèreté que cet air est le plus émouvant (un paradoxe du genre buffa et de la commedia que j'apprécie particulièrement). For me, Monserrat Caballe was one of the best opera singers of all time! Not only did she have a powerful voice, she was a class act: beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful presence on stage!❤ Rest In Peace, you are missed by many!🌹
You need to research before you comment , Montserrat had a very overactive thyroid and it caused severe weight problems , she lost a considerable amount weight later on
The three great singer Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi and Montserrat Caballe are not at their best here. Callas in 73/74 had a very worn voice, Tebaldi had lost her softness (her voice is hardened) and Caballe has problems with breathing which makes her take liberties with prosody, but she is doing better than her predecessors? Netrebko is physically closest to the character of Lauretta who is 21 years old, her voice is good, although for this role it's necessary to lighten the voice. Fleming listens too much her voice and suddenly comes back to the interpretation and returns to listening her voice .... In my opinion, if we listen Callas in other recordings (either in studio in September 1954 or tv video May 18, 1965 in Paris) his interpretation is as always very right. Tebaldi in the years 1946-1954 was angelic. The great Montserrat Caballe undoubtedly had an exceptional voice between 1965 and 1975. His pianissimi are exceptional and unique! It would have been better to offer the best recordings of each artist in order to give a right opinion. Les trois grandes cantatrices que sont Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi et Montserrat Caballe ne sont pas à leur meilleur ici. Todas son estupendas cantantes. Creo que si la comparación tiene como objetivo elegir la mejor interpretación, resulta algo muy subjetivo. Además, creo que debió elegirse a las cantantes en sus mejores momentos. Callas era una magnifica interprete, con una técnica extraordinaria, y ni que decir de Monserrat con sus bellísimos fiatos que nos transportan al cielo. En fin cada una tiene lo suyo.
I find the voice of Callas a bit grating. It sounds to me sometimes like a metal instrument, at times it is like a wood instrument, according to where she is in the scale. Her timbre changes from one instrument to another.

In my opinion, if we listen Callas in other recordings (either in studio in September 1954 or tv video May 18, 1965 in Paris) his interpretation is as always very right. Tebaldi in the years 1946-1954 was angelic. The great Montserrat Caballe undoubtedly had an exceptional voice between 1965 and 1975. His pianissimi are exceptional and unique!
It would have been better to offer the best recordings of each artist in order to give a right opinion.
Les trois grandes cantatrices que sont Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi et Montserrat Caballe ne sont pas à leur meilleur ici. Callas en 73/74 avait la voix très abimée, Tebaldi avait perdu sa douceur (sa voix s'est durcie) et Caballe a des problèmes de souffle qui lui fait prendre des libertés avec la prosodie, mais elle s'en sort mieux que ses devancières? Netrebko est physiquement la plus proche du personnage de Lauretta qui a 21 ans, vocalement elle est correcte, bien que pour ce rôle il faut alléger la voix. Fleming écoute trop sa voix et tout à coup revient à l'interprétation et retourne à l'écoute de sa voix….
À mon avis, si on écoute Callas dans d'autres enregistrements (soit en studio en septembre 1954 ou vidéo tv 18 mai 1965 à Paris) son interprétation est comme toujours très juste. I will always give this one to Montserrat, her rendition is divine and it makes me feel like this is what composer envisioned when he was creating.

Todas son estupendas cantantes. Creo que si la comparación tiene como objetivo elegir la mejor interpretación, resulta algo muy subjetivo. Además, creo que debió elegirse a las cantantes en sus mejores momentos. Callas era una magnifica interprete, con una técnica extraordinaria, y ni que decir de Monserrat con sus bellísimos fiatos que nos transportan al cielo. En fin cada una tiene lo suyo.

I find the voice of Callas a bit grating. It sounds to me sometimes like a metal instrument, at times it is like a wood instrument, according to where she is in the scale. Her timbre changes from one instrument to another.
