I recently was researching in reference to bunions. Apparently, many bunions are created by continually wearing a narrow 'toe box.' Be kind to your feet! No more narrow toe boxes! 👍🏻
I have been in enough pain in my lower back. I just tell the few people around our home..."Hi, just doing PT". I was walking with one hand up and with my homemade boyah stick in the other. I alternate the arms. I live on a dead-end street and a branch off to the schoolyard. Just started this. I was in a parking lot at a church. I was asked about my stick and showed them it was for balance exercises.
When showing how to walk with the fore foot hitting first, your camera showed from the waist up. Can you show the legs and feet please? It feels very awkward to do this and I would like to see what his legs and feet are doing. Thanks.
Great vlog and very helpful! The socks are Injinji toe socks. It would be a cool segment or short to discuss different types of socks and their benefit because all socks are not the same. Injinji's are used by runners and soldiers as a liner combined with Thorlo socks as they have cushioning. Injinji's have save my feet! ❤
One just has to keep in mind that this requires even more room in the toe box. Nothing wrong with this, but I have a special pair of shoes for these socks.
He didn’t mention the little bumps inside the Crocks naturally message your feet while you’re walking. For this reason I seldom wear socks. But then I have anhidrosis so I never sweat. I’ve been wearing wide toe minimalist shoes as well as crocks for several years. When I wear my designer shoes my sciatica returns with a vengeance!
Inflamation is a huge part of health issues including joint pain for over 50 due to bad diet. look into keto diet and carnviore diet. people are getting rid of their arthritis, joint pain, gut issues, brain fog, diabetes, rx drugs etc. worth your time to chech these out lots of good doctors with chans and library will have books.
That's definitely an all bodies will differ situation. Working with a dietician or doing an elimination diet to figure out what needs to be kept out are good ways to see what causes issues.

Since I guess I’ve gotten old enough that basically any exercise seems to cause me soreness: Do you recommend switching over to swimming? To be honest, I’m really not a very good swimmer so it’s basically impossible to swim laps and have a really high-quality workout (so I just sort of swim, then walk through the water, then swim a ways, walk some more and just try to keep moving. So I’m not sure if that really brings down the calorie-burning?) Also, when you water walk, there is actually a lot of resistance and my legs do seem to get somewhat sore-eventually. I certainly like the low "skill-level requirement" and convenience of walking, but I do seem to have more leg soreness-unfortunately. It always seems like the calorie burn isn't particularly high. I've tried to walk like you say to walk, but it's very difficult for me. I guess I'm just so used to walking with my heel touching first???
i will go around sing your song in my head .. i love yall and i think of bob when watching ...ok now problem i thought i sprined my big toe ben a very long time cant touch it not even on the top.. i ware croks tennis shoes will make me my toe hurt so bad the next day i am 55 my pedi drest said i sprained it... any suddgested
Topo Athletic shoes are great wide toe box shoes with low or zero drops shoes and cushioning. I tried xero shoes but they have almost cushion and were awful for me.
I love toe socks. My favorite brand is Injinji. I have the "liner" weight version of the low cut, and often wear them under my regular socks. My daily wear shoes have plenty of room in the toe box. They keep my toes from rubbing on each other. Well, okay, it's summer and I'm usually in sandals - but when the weather cools off I'm back in the socks. I learned about toe sox more than 10 years ago when a cousin, who was then in his 70's, started wearing them daily. He has diabetes and his doctor recommended them. I was amazed last year when visiting - he showed us his bare feet. After wearing those toe sox daily for maybe 8 years or less, all his toes are straight, and he had some toes that had become crooked as he aged. I was amazed, but seeing is believing.
I've had trouble for over10 yrs. It get so tight around top of right let. I stretch regularly, daily, using vionic shoes. I can go backwards do sideways do a kicking work out no pain. But if walk with a mile my right hip and lower back . Never wear dress shoes. Been sandals and good width. So not the problem
Hi Bob and Brad. I recently tore I believe part of my gastro and soleus muscles. I live in Vietnam and I’m unsure. I’ve been to 2 doctors, and I live in Vietnam. It’s been 3 weeks and I cannot push off or jump at all. Please HELP!!!!
We are very sorry to hear this! Here is a link that has all our videos that we have done on this. Read through the titles and just watch the one(s) that sound like what you are looking for: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=gastro%20and%20soleus
At 73, I couldn’t walk more than a couple of blocks without pain in my hips and lower back. I went to a store with computer imaging to analyze my feet and gait. I walked around in at least 6 recommendedshoes and bought the ones that felt best. Months later, I’ll never go back.
Brad, have you considered treating - curing - your Morton's neuroma with alcohol injections? The alcohol is injected directly into the painful nerve once per week over several weeks until the nerve is dead. I received the injections several years ago; the nerve has not grown back and the pain is gone. Just a thought. ~ Lisa
Wow, a lot of interesting tips. I walk a lot and I seem to be getting a lot of foot pain-particularly on the inside part of my foot in front of my heel. However, I’ve started wearing one of these little Copper Fit Arch Support bands and 90% of the pain has gone away…fortunately…. Could you recommend some specific shoe brands to try? It seems like most shoes seem to have the raised heel that causes these problems you spoke about… Also: I use the Cybex Arc Trainer a lot-this special type of elliptical machine. If I do it long enough, my toes seem to become quite painful as they seem to kind of slam against the front of the shoe all the time. Do you have any special tips in this regard? I also seem to be getting a lot more muscle soreness than I used to-even though I’ve used such elliptical machines for more than 20 years. (I’m now 58.) Perhaps you might do a video regarding elliptical machines? One thing that I have learned is that, particularly as you get older, that even walking and the elliptical machines-they may be LOW IMPACT, but they are definitely NOT NO IMPACT.
Thanks. I was not aware that you had done one on ellipticals-even though I've watched dozens and dozens of your videos. I think very few people do videos on ellipticals as many people think they are NO IMPACT. I'll check it out...
I am 57, and disagree about your walking dynamics, you are correct for running about foot placement, but walking is heel first. See race walking rules. The important thing is to lift the knee as you advance the foot, and move from heel to toe in a smooth motion. There should not be a heel strike, but a heel placement.

Would love recommendations on brands of shoes. I have Hokas and looking at them the heel is high.
Shoe recommendations with zero drop?
What do you recommend for people that are in Healthcare for shoes that are on their feet a lot
Wide toe box and cushion, the brand doesn't matter as much as the dynamics of the shoe.

Why NOT wear the wide-box all of the time?
Brad said 70 to 80% of the time which is alot, the rest of the time allowing for dressier times and maybe slippers.
It's hard to find a wide toe box in dress up shoes or if you want to let your feet breathe. But you certainly could if you wanted to.
