Great to see you young people getting into film like I did in the late 60s. The experience was very much a trip for me, so I hope you get that feeling too. Cheers!
". . . Metropolis actually delivers a cold, crushing, Soviet kind of look." Perfect description. I need to pick up a few rolls. Some beautiful shots here, Jason. Thanks for the review.
"Living in the Matrix", "cold, crushing, Soviet look". Jason providing some visual and verbal poetry for the end of the world. tbh, Metropolis never really appealed to me, but after understanding the kind of look it's going for, I think I'm starting to warm up to it. Got some brutalist buildings around there that might look good on it
This was one of the first video I watched from Grainydays and I didn't get the joke in the beginning. Now that I have stalked all of his and bad flashes videos, I finally get it. lol
Love the look. I'm thinking I'd probably use it as if it was a black and white film and be pleasantly surprised by the colour accents in the images. Can't wait to get my hands on some.
@@TimFitzwater It retails at 12.90€ a roll, thats 3€ more than a roll of Portra 400. Its nice that they try to bring new things to the market but at that price i can get much more interesting stuff.
Love it, Jason is the kind of man who schleps around a heavy winder just to advance manually. I can relate, I have the same camera and its looks and feels too sweet with that winder
Gerardo Cueto I will post some of the pictures on my Instagram pendaimonionpictures. But since DHL got pretty slow around here, the lab will need two to three weeks because of Corona and I will need some time to actually shoot the project I guess it will be in June at best.
These are the first shots I’ve seen with this film that actually look remotely decent. Still not a fan of how washed out the colors are, but I’m sure there exists a situation where the film might shine. Appreciate the work you do!
Really dug up the photo at 9:35, I actually enjoy what the grain does in that photo. Ironically it's just after you're talking about how fine (large) the grain is at 400. Really wanna pick some of this film up now actually, too bad shooting right now is a bit rough around the edges. Maybe things will start looking better in a few weeks.
What a great video! While I already like your style, it was particularly suited to this film. Your description and commentary went along with the flavor of the images. Soviet style. I usually go for saturated colors where I can (or B&W), but I am excited about this emulsion. It is different, and that is attractive. And if you are going to shoot film, grain is yet another tool to exploit, which you did to great effect. Gotta shoot some. Been to Union Station many times, but not to the surrounding area you covered. Ideas and inspiration for the future. Thanks for the video, great work!
Dude as always sick video. I always hope go run into you in downtown sometime. Well not now cause I don't wanna give Baxter the plague. Can't wait for the next video!
"derived from the fictional city that Gandalf lives in in the hit musical, Die Hard" "Yippi Ki Yay" Gandalf shouted in C# Maj as he dropped down to Mordor holding a machine gun.
I've tried not to use up all 10 Kickstarter rolls over the miserable UK winter just past - it's Definitely a cloudy winter's day film, you get a whisper of a hint of what it can conjure up in your indoor shots - It doesn't quite complement gorgeous SoCal sun lol. Oh and it works surprisingly well w direct-flash portraiture in weak ambient light (think pre-dusk, in between freezing rain showers lol).
I watched this and now it m so pumped. Seriously dude you should think about being a motivational speaker. I shot one roll of this in 120. My scanner tried to make it look normal......I might have another go. I do like the their potsdam, and the purple if I’m feeling fruity.
If you take a picture of anything and you print it and put it on the wall, it should contain no distractions, grain is one of those distractions. Ron W4BIN
They’re one of the companies trying to develop vaccines for COVID19 does that mean if they’re the company that ends up discovering the right vaccine you wouldn’t get it?
"Its cheaper than therapy" is the golden quote of this vid.
I'm gonna disagree, and instead go with "Surprise Sausage Steve".
I like this film because it reflects the grainy, desaturated nature of my soul. Also, my soul is best rated at ISO 160. Like most Lomochrome films.
I totally agree with this comment
I hate for the same reasons. It's nasty and green as my bile, and I usually push my bile two stops. Each to their own I guess.
i died reading this 😂😂😂😂
The colors of this film give me weird “how to get a cinematic look in Lightroom cs4” vibes :/
Then we have gone some weird full circle?
Great to see you young people getting into film like I did in the late 60s. The experience was very much a trip for me, so I hope you get that feeling too. Cheers!
“Crushing soviet look”
"dystopia" would have been a way better name
Just what Im looking for.
"Surprise sausage Steve" quote of the century
This fulfills my dank meme quota and my dead inside quota and my photography video quota
i am ded inside
Grainy days amd Negative Feedback posted a video! Looks like things are getting better. Love the Bad flashes reference there.
corey and willem too^^ so much content love it
Natura 1600 needs to happen. I hate that there are no high ISO colour films anymore.
". . . Metropolis actually delivers a cold, crushing, Soviet kind of look." Perfect description. I need to pick up a few rolls. Some beautiful shots here, Jason. Thanks for the review.
Metropolis is already a very interesting film. I'll be happy to shoot it sometime.
I also want the Fuji 1600 Natura back. !
Quarantine with Grainydays videos is better than no quarantine without grainydays.

You actually take good photographs unlike many photography you tubers.
Your work and photos should live forever! Luv from Poland!

these are some of my favorites I've seen shot on metropolis
I should be studying, yet I’m literally watching every video in your channel. Great job Jason!
Same Here David, same here
I really love how you added field recorded to this video. Feels immersive AF!
Cool, now if i need a new film that looks like a heavy expired one i can buy that from lomography.
Solarfuchs that was kind of my thought - I don’t mind the expired film look - but not sure I want to over pay for it.

I'm betting the colors would be more vibrant with 30 year old C41

It’s really cool seeing you shoot the same locations I’ve shot before. Gives me new perspective on some of my favorite photography spots.
Yeah man! Three hours ago I ordered five rolls of that stuff in 135 for a project about Corona in my hometown. Perfect timing!
Sounds like a perfect combination
@@theundefinedphotographer I hope so. I've ever shot the stuff myself before...
Interested in seeing the final product.

OMG loved Gandalf in Die Hard!
bro, i've seen this film shot a bunch and idk i just cant really get behind the colors! :/
Hey now, 110 film is fun. Lots of really great cameras that suit that format.

Rumour has it that the only cure for covid-19 is intense and sustained sarcasm
The fact that the movie film market could become competitive again makes me happy
This is like the third time I've watched this video. God this film is gorgeous!

There's something with this film the reds looks greats ! and how it affects tungsten light !
The info booth was the pic that really got to me 🔥
i Mean you're a fucking great photographer but goddamn i have to pause so many times and just laugh for a good minute. Thanks.

I appreciate this level of dry humour coming from an American
Dope shiz homie, I'd be curious to see how this film looks shot at 100 iso
I'm happy that lomography is still creating films and I was excited for this film... Sadly not so much after seeing reviews of it.
The hit musical die hard got me
Im a simple man I see a grainydays video I click like

Yah... I need to try some of this film grain for sure! I'm hoping it will match the look I edit for in my digitals work when ever I shoot digital.
Really interesting choice of film if the David Fincher look/aesthetic is needed!
Takumars are my favorite vintage lenses but I had to get the flekogan for 35mm
i subscribed because you are calm and i live for that rn
I’m getting major Fuji Superia 200 vibes off this, and believe me that is a very, very good thing
youre enhancing my quarantine. Greetings from germany.
Ja! Ich auch! Thanks Duo Lingo! BERLIN
it bothers me greatly that you left the portra tag still in there
deejay bogus honestly after paying $20 for a roll of cinestill, I also never remove that paper thingy no matter what film I’m shooting.

That eatery is the best, I used to go in the days when things like that existed.
someone gave me a 120 roll of this film stock recently. Wasn't sure what it looked like, so I appreciated this vid!
4:37 yeah you got me.. I'm actually rewatching smallville right now so I fell for it extra hard

Super interesting film, love the video man
Just in time for quarantine entertainment.
Metropolis is perfect if you like that Jaundiced look. You too can replicate liver failure for less than $15/roll!
It would be really cool to see a video of what you carry in your camera bag on these film testing trips
