Just a shame he swam in the same era as Phelps because Phelps was a little bit better. But both have said competing against the other pushed them to do better. They both brought out the best in each other, so maybe it’s a good thing Lochte was born when he was. It was a heck of a rivalry, from the same country too.

It signified both the rise of Lochte, it justified the hype that Lochte might be the only one who could beat Phelps and it also asserted Phelps' dominance in the end. It also shows most clearly the Lochte brings out the best in Phelps. All of his other races (except the 200 IM) were good not great. but the races where he faced Lochte he broke the WRs.

Park Tae Hwan went from Korean hero to a disgrace. You can see by the Korean commentators just how much Park meant for Korean swimming until he blew it.

His underwaters are really strong, his turns are fast, and his free and fly are amazing, Lochte is a really good breastroker, and a lot like me, he catches up to people ahead of him with his breastroke and he stays there, even pulling ahead with it. Either way they're both really good but Phelps just has the upper hand.

Phelps was depressed and out of focus during 2011 and 2012 and offcourse Lochte continued to train hard,, that's why he beat him. By 2016 Mike was back again killing everyone.

The better man wins as a respectable man, and that’s why Michael Phelps is still relevant and Lochte is just about forgotten and forever thought of as that guy who lied and destroyed property in another country while representing America.
