      Seed is the Refined Blueprint of Making Media to sell Merchandise. Constant face off of the most powerful Gundams to win by mostly having the best Gundam who will wipe everyone and some of those defeated magically get new Gundams in the next 1 or 2 episodes and they slap down last week's King of the hill. But most gundams are ugly and ridiculous in design...so they try to remake the most popular ones to the point they're overplayed....Yes looking at you ASH-TRAY...but hey...2 decades later we get the Eclipse...literally the best kit to come from that timeline.

    Something interesting to note about seed is that there is a way its supposed to be watched. You see when seed was being aired it actually had a companion manga we never got. Basically you were supposed to watch that weeks episode then read that weeks chapter of the astray manga. The problem is we never got this until year's later. A lot of important shit was happening in the background. Especially with orb in particular.

    For better or for worse, it was unironically my first ever anime introduction to the franchise when i was a kid. Technically it was Gundam wing via the SNES fighting game Endless Duel, but technicality aside, SEED was my first look into the overall plot and themes surrounding Gundam in general.
    As a kid i basically had no clue what was going on and the only thing that kinda stuck with me are "those mono-eyed lookin robots be lookin badass" and "wait, they allow this little clothing on a cartoon network aired show!?" Lol
    It did however introduce me to the idea that there are other mecha beyond just Voltes 5 and the super robot genre that may have at least even a bit more grounded a take on Mecha anime in general, and because of that and the impression it left on me, i finally got to marathon the entire original classic Mobile Suit Gundam compilation movies and have zero regrets. I'll get around watching SEED again after i finish watchin the mainline UC timeline animes and movies, but if it wasnt for SEED getting me curious about what the originals were about, i dont think i would've been able to enjoy the classics and the franchise as a whole.

      well, that's what Gundam 00 is for. That's basically what Destiny should've been and the next series after that but Morosawa got sick by the later half of SEED and Fukuda and her were just screwing around and wasting everyone's time using up the budget for private concerts that they call OST research. TBH, I feel like it was all Morosawa that screwed around and her husband just ended up along for the ride. Much like how she accused Cagali's VA for seducing her husband just so people backed off her case of screwing around (because she couldn't use her illness as an excuse anymore).

    A week ago I went to watch Gundam Seed Freedom in cinemas (Latvia was kind of late to the party, I know) and I really felt that the bet of "let's up the personal stakes and melodrama" payed off: half of the public was female and they were gushing about the characters, the mobile suits and the choice of music and references. I got really happy about it, since every other gundam movie I've watched in cinemas (Thunderbolt for example) has been a male dominated movie.
    SEED was my first Gundam, got me into the series and while it's not great I still very much appreciate it.

    Note: Kira Yamato had reprogrammed the Gundam to where only he could pilot it, and making it impossible for a natural human to pilot it when it was only really difficult for a Natural to do so. He basically gave the Alliance no choice but to draft him, because he's the only coordinator who isn't going to shoot them in the face.

    • @draketheduelist
      @draketheduelist Год назад +5

      And what's more is that Kira wound up reprogramming the Strike later when he got to Orb anyway, after which Mu was able to use it more or less just as well as Kira ever could, implying Kira could've done that the whole time. Or at least if he couldn't, there was never a satisfactory explanation why. So Kira basically screwed himself with that one. (And it's arguable that it wouldn't be the only time Kira would make life harder for himself for no reason... Flay isn't, nor has otherwise ever been implied to have been _that_ smart.) We don't even see him _try_ to reprogram the Strike again, nor make the offer to do so only to be denied for some reason. Kira is only put upon because Seed had to follow the formula for Amuro in spite of significantly differing circumstances.
      For one thing, Amuro hadn't awakened as a newtype yet. He was just the only one Bright had access to who could parse the RX-78-2's instruction manual, what with how his dad wrote it. Plus, Char was actively chasing the RX-78-2 down personally and trading fire with it far more often than Rau ever did. Yes, Athrun had the Aegis, but Athrun _never_ had the clout of being a one-man fleet killer like Char was after the Battle of Loum.
      There's even an early scene where Mu, Ramius and Badgiruel are discussing how Kira complicated the situation by reprogramming the Strike. Badgiruel briefly floats the idea of telling Kira to change it back, but gives up on the idea for no real reason other than there wouldn't be a show otherwise, which I always find a stupid reason for anything. No story > bad story.

      The reason given was that the default OS was still in Beta and hadn't been properly tested, it wasnt even finished. They were waiting for the first round of test flights to make sure even the concept was sound. Nobody on the Archangel was even trained in how to use the test OS either.
      So Kira's kitbashed system was the only thing they had to keep the Strike active.
      Once they're on Earth, Kira has to keep modifying the OS to cope with regular gravity and the desperate terrain of the planet. Once they arrived on ORB, they basically took Kira's calibrations and fiddled with them until they created a system that a normal person could handle.
      In short: The reason Kira couldn't mod the OS for anyone else was because it wasn't finished and he was the only one able to modify it on the fly, or make sense of it.

    • @eight-cloudspurple5871
      @eight-cloudspurple5871 Год назад +2

      @@draketheduelist ughhhh.... watch the show again. Kira took the result of Orb's work so far(which is already alot), and added more to it to make it work better. He did not programmed the OS all by himself. No way he can make a natural OS in limited time. Could Kira have done it by himself? Perhaps, but it would take alot longer than the time it took the Archangel to get from Heliopolis to Orb.
      That is, not even mentioning Kira had to pretty much learn on the flight as to how to caliberate a giant robot for gravity, terrain differences, heat convection etc. No way he could have create anything remotely usable for naturals without these practical experiences.
      And really dude? Restore the Strike back to the original configuration??? Sre you nuts? Mu explicitly said the original pilots could barely walk with the original OS, and they were trained to use mobile suits. Mu using the original OS would be a disaster. "No real reason...", well here is one reason; you do not send a machine that could barely walk into the battlefield because the result would be catastrophic.

    I keep putting it off but part of me really feels like I need to give SEED a chance, especially since the character drama in UC is a huge part of why I Iike Gundam at all. So I doubt the shift to more meleodrama will bother me. But I think the core reason I've avoided it is less the reputation and more just the premise and worries it'll go into full blown eugenics apologia whether intentionally or not. Should maybe put aside a week end for the movies of something and give it the benefit of the doubt.

    • @ZorakGoesOn
      @ZorakGoesOn  2 года назад +9

      I wouldn't worry too much about the eugenics angle - it has very little to say in either direction, honestly. "Coordinators hate normals for being their lessers" and "Normal people hate coordinators for not being 'pure' humans" are views both portrayed with a negative light. Kira being a messianic figure due to all his enhancements is definitely a thing, but they don't really call attention too much attention to that fact.
      You should give it a shot. A whole bunch of folks love it, even if I don't much care for it personally.

    • @bearminator7441
      @bearminator7441 2 года назад +13

      It's also worth noting that the show doesn't seem to really understand what co-ordinators actually are. The majority of them are never introduced doing anything "better" than "regular" people. Their non-named pilots are just as big of schmucks as the human ones, and other than the cast members, they never really seem to use this alleged superiority in any efficient or neat ways. It really would have been handled better if only select characters were actually co-ordinators, as they are a very messy grouping of people.

    • @bzoner16
      @bzoner16 2 года назад +15

      @@bearminator7441 At the beginning of SEED, only coordinators are able to effectively pilot mobile suits at all, as naturals don't have the reflexes or information processing power required (this comes up a few times with Sai and the Astray girls). Kira reprograms the Strike OS (Athrun does it later to the Aegis) and survives the heat of the reentry battle because of his coordinator traits. Most of the rest of the coordinator's abilities come up in flashbacks to before the war, since the series doesn't have a lot of time to dwell on non-combat applications.
      Fundamentally though, the series also highlights the limitations of this genetic ability. Coordinators are only better until naturals figure out how to make technology to bridge the gap (through the Natural OS) at which point is becomes obvious that Coordinators aren't really that special. The whole point is that they're not real evolution, and they're the result of arrogant people thinking they could buy themselves into being a new species.

    • @bzoner16
      @bzoner16 2 года назад +9

      The characters who go into eugenics apologia are universally regarded as villains, and much ado is made about how genetic engineering isn't real evolution, and humanity hasn't fundamentally changed.

    GSEED is an amazing storyline that Fukuda and Morosawa created but then shat on because the production team called them out on their horrible work ethic. So Morosawa decided to just throw it in the trash by the time for Destiny.
    If you want the real storyline for Destiny, watch Gundam 00. That's the true continuation of the SEED story. Shinn is Setsuna working with the 3 Jesuses of TSA, making up the Celestial Beings.
    EDIT: just to note, they later changed what the ultimate coordinator is about. Being a coordinator is much like being the people of the Superman universe. The Destiny Plan is like that of the Codex. Coordinators are designed to do a specific job and they do it extremely well. Kira on the otherhand is like Superman. He can CHOOSE which one he can be/do, which means the Destiny Plan does not work on him. He is the only one that can pick while the rest are kind of screwed. This is the focus on Athrun for the Destiny season. The entire development is him changing himself to be more than just a super soldier pilot. But Kira being the ultimate coordinator does not make him THE ONE.
    For one, Athrun can never be beaten in terms of piloting and anything combat related. So that proves that Kira isn't the end all be all character that we take him as, a Gary Stu (Mary Sue).
    As for the Jesus resurrection, all 3 of the ace pilots of the Three Ships Alliance have come back to life: Athrun being "killed" by Shinn. Kira being "killed" by Athrun. Mu being killed the Dominion.

But if there's one thing shinn was a potential character i mean lets get new characters for once and shinn could've been a great character the only thing i hate about him is his hate for orb literally the only thing i hate about him i even went all my way to rewrite the plot for destiny and seed (there some things i didn't like about the original and some changes are going to needed for a destiny reboot) for like one shinn gets drifted back to orb after he was trying to get the minerva to escape and meets with kira there kira and shinn talk and kira decide's to join the war and kira was in fact part if the zaft military as well because lacus is the vice-chairman of zaft and she is not a pop-star i repeat she is not a pop-star she is zaft's equavilent to cagalli execpet she hasen't seen war until she is onboard the archangel and kira also cuts off one of his legs to escape during the fight between the aegis and strike then one arms with rau then his eye during his fight with rey and patrick zala's are the antagonists along with rey who has second personality called raulas who orchaestrated the whole war to continue rau's work exepect leave some survivors and make himself god than shinn fights raulas after he told kira to help the allies (aka pro-randal zaft forces as well as pro-randal EA forces and neutral nations and pro-cagalli orb forces) to destroy the seed equavilant of the colony laser and during the fight rey gets back control of his body after shinn encouraged rey to take back control of his body also i made cagalli much more better here as well by making the whole assassination on lacus never happen the archangel goes to join up with the minerva when they got word they were being attacked by orb and EA combined forces and when they did cagalli contacted orb forces to join her against the seirans this works with half of the fleet joining there side alonf with that captain who comforted shinn when his family died and i'm not have the freedom 2 here just a big no i had the liberty of making a weaker version of the freedom combined with strike scehmatics called the liberty and give athrun like the same exepect it's the justice and aegis i even have a 3 and 4 sequel ready and this how my idea for a seed reboot

      @@zemo5218 that's quite a nice rewrite but the foundations are bad, not because your writing is bad, but because Destiny was thrown in the trash at the very start.
      So there's quite a lot of problems behind the scenes. Morosawa being the epicenter of it all.
      Back in SEED, she already was quite an awful person to work with. Being one of the position in power, as well as her husband being the lead, they abused their positions quite often.
      The production team DID tolerate it because she did get sick halfway through and she did do work, albeit late and often past her deadline,. Making everyone's job bad because they would often barely make the deadline (if they don't reuse things and that's why you get so many reused scenes).
      When it comes to Destiny, she tries to use her illness as a crutch and people called her out on it because she was awful to begin with and she already recovered.
      So to make people back off of her, she created drama and accused Cagali's VA of seducing her husband (Fukuda). Shinn's VA backed his coworker and so she just made it so that everyone suffers.
      She literally threw the entire Destiny plotline to spite the entire production team for calling her BS out.
      That's why you only ever get to see 2 episodes of Cagali and Shinn being who they truly are. Then they do a whole 180 character.
      Shinn goes batshit crazy and becomes the villain. Cagali becomes a pathetic sobbing mess. Kira replaces Shinn as the full time protagonist. This is why during the revamp, Athrun ends up being the main protagonist of Destiny instead of Shinn (even though his character had always been meant as a supportive character).
      This is why Gundam 00 is the TRUEST Destiny plotline that we would ever have.
      Even your rewrite suffers from it because you only ever get 2 episodes of the TRUE Desinty plotline.

      Other than that i did make some other changes like durandel is actually a good guy and was actually a good friend of lacus's father, stellar isn't dead because her death seemed pretty pointless and for the entirety of destiny she isn't important nor is in the 3rd sequel concept i have but in the 4th sequel she has a major role of being a motherly type of person to the MC, muu is still dead and neo will still exist because i planned on having kira and cagalli having a secret older brother and for him to be neo he will be a major in the 3rd sequel as the captain of the ship we will be viewing and this time it will be the AF with a new friendly government but militaristic due to them having to limit military power after destiny as for cagalli she will be like what she was in the begining of destiny but after kira bridenaps cagalli (hey that was pretty good not gonna lie so i'm keeping it) she starts to return to her old self

      @@zemo5218 well, when Morosawa and Fukuda actually worked, they really did create an amazing story. The reason why I keep saying Gundam 00 is because that is the outline that the VAs got when they were casted for their roles. They knew the general heading on how the story will progress and such.
      You even have accounts of Shinn's VA saying that the games have the true Shinn because the cast knew the story.
      As for the foundations, If it hadn't been rewritten as a spite story, all these characters may not have been what we know them as. So your rewrite is based off of the wrong notion.
      Basing everything on SEED, Morosawa's story and why it is so captivating is because it was meant to be grey. There is no side that that is good. Only that the other side is a bigger offender/violater.
      Destiny was suppose to bring TSA into the light of their hypocrisy.That Kira's idealism is the biggest chaotic force in that universe (similar to the Celestial Being's presence in the world and how they will go to war against war).
      I do agree that CE has a lot of potential but I was merely saying that the foundations that you OUGHT to use is Gundam 00 rather than the broken story that we know as Destiny as the 00 is a truer (if not the real one) plot for Destiny.

      Thats true but for some kira's pacifism is really bad in a way i mean sure they could reveal they're hypocrisy but thats not it i feel like kira could've been something more than a pacifist ultimate coordinator he could've become a veteran pilot who experienced losing a lot of his friends and comrades during the war and try's to minimize caaualties in the second war shinn could've gone from arrogant to a calm pilot athrun could've become the commander of the orb forces and trys to enforce orb's armed neutrality so that it could never become a battlefield ever again lacus as a trustworthy and a strong politician same with cagalli seriously they could've been something different and better than what they were that is why i believe that seed needs a reboot with all the characters having different developments i want to see kira, shinn and athrun take a different turn rather than the shithole we got
      00 was ok but there was something that never appealed to me it felt like something was missing "was it the setting or the world building" thats what i asked myself there were some good elements but it didn't appeal to me as much as seed, wing, ibo, gundam x and the original there was some sort of element that was missing in 00 it could be there weren't enough people that didn't die i mean seriously there were two characters of the first ship they had, that i didn't even have any background on died and i was like "ok" then lockon dies and thats the end of the death tolls in 00 the thing the 00 needed was to kill of some characters not random characters. Sergei does not count as he only had a connection to that white haired girl (forgot her name) that is why 00 needed more time to build up characters and setting it could've done more and aliens don't count

Seed Destiny is what I don't like apart from the mobile suits though I also didn't like how some of the mobile suits are kinda skinny compared to Seed. The bio CPUs in Seed Destiny are total like Intel Pentium
    But if you really want best Cosmic Era content, it's on Stargazer and Astray mangas.
    The biggest flaw of Cosmic Era though is the ending of Seed Destiny. ZAFT and ORB are ran by teenagers

      This. A lot of people seem to think he's some kind of invincible or messiah character, but I never really agreed with that view. Kira obviously wasn't on the level of the Red Coats early on in the series, even though he was almost holding his own 1 vs 4. Which in my opinion you could argue was more like 2 vs 3 because Mu did help Kira and Asuran wasn't really trying early on in the series. And in regard to him being viewed as some messiah. The only people that seem to think so are Rau Le Creuset and Rey Za Burrel. Most of his friends or acquaintances just respect Kira for his intelligence, skill and loyalty (Him trying to protect his friends). Kira never seems to think of himself as a messiah character, he's just doing what he thinks is right. Which, in his eyes, is trying to stop conflict from occurring with minimal casualties.

    SEED is definitely the Gundam series of all time. It doesn't come close to being perfect, and in fact, many of the plot points either go nowhere or end in an unsatisfactory payoff, while the few that do work get completely manhandled in Destiny. I'm of the opinion that SEED should really have stopped at the first anime and its spin-offs, instead of rushing a beyond half-assed sequel nobody liked.
    Also, little story time. There was this japanese SEED game for the GBA that I played that served as my introduction to not only SEED, but the franchise as a whole. I didn't know shit about Gundam, and the fact I couldn't understand the dialogues also meant I didn't know what the plot was about either: For one, I thought Lacus was this alien woman due to how weird her design looked compared to everyone else. Additionally, I later learned that the first four Gundam were called Gs, which made me mistakenly assume that the game I had played was about G Gundam, because it had G in the name.

    They came so close with this one. Why is it so hard to make a series that just uses technology as the source of its power. You could explain so many of their advanced capabilities as being the result of their advanced technology, yet they always have the need to throw space magic into it. The coordinators were great! They were the perfect technology based newtype stand in and made so much more sense scientifically and thematically, but no. They just had to throw in space magic. Now maybe I'm biased as a person living on earth, but I can't wait for the day when newtypes are eradicated.

    Gundam Seed is 1 and a half seasons of pretty good anime. The issue with it is that last half a season. There's a reason so much fanfiction works to fix that part, and so much has been done in SRW games with the last half of Destiny. Heck, even Dynasty Warriors Gundam, multiple times, has done interesting things with the mess of Destiny and it's characters. The term 'hyperreality' absolutely applies to it, and the 'more is more' definitely needed to be reigned in somewhat to improve it. That being said, it's one of 2 Gundam series that has Alien life be a thing at all. The quiet question of 'Wait, we have evidence of alien life, what does that mean?' being ignored for current world issues (in the setting) reads as believable and set the stage for 00's long plot fulfilled in the film.

    > is divided by Orwellian superstates now forming the Earth Alliance
    > the tech devised to repair genetic damages caused by radiation in ww3 are used to create "coordinator" superhumans, which later declares themselves the master race
    > Ethics, religions and rules of war are completely eradicated due to surge of hate against coordinators globally
    > War of racial extermination between coordinators and naturals, which almost escalates into complete annihilation of humanity
    The plot even describes the Americans supplying the Russians with vessels with Aegis Weapon System and such to form Earth Alliance. That's the state of fucked-up world of CE.

    Hey great video. I feel your assessment is fair, more so than so many older fans who mostly just hate on Seed and can't see its merits.
    I am a little biased tho. Seed was the first Gundam I watched as a teenager (13-15) who hadn't seen anything like it before. It's mind blowing, heart wrenching with cool action scenes, mechas, plus OP MC... Everything I would enjoy back then. It's practically more like space opera rather than anything else. Overly dramatized, full of emotions, kind of over the top. So much that binge watching it gave me depression. Contrasting it with more grounded predecessors (I heard, haven't watched), I can see why the older fans didn't like it.
    Seed Destiny is like the forced sequel the company makes just because Seed was popular. All over the place. I barely enjoyed it even though I really like Seed.
    Looking back, while I didn't like the visuals, I greatly enjoy the songs and story, as flawed as it was. Some of the songs remain my favorite till this day. And it's its own thing, unlike the UC timeline which was and is harder to get into due to its sheer size and how dated it is.

      I gave it some thoughts and here are my changes that I think would make the whole set up and the whole setting make sense:
      Earth government largely failed to address or neglected racism against Coordinators, causing mass migration and Coordinator dominance in space. PLANT municipal government starts to emerge.
      "Bloody Valentines" happened as a gene purists' terrorist act against Junius 7, causing massive casualties, the unification of PLANT government, formation of a new Council, and ZAFT, emerged largely using modified Coordinator civilian mobile suit. PLANT government started to massively expel naturals from its own sphere of influence due to distrust after terrorism attack.
      Neutron jammer and canceller was developed at the same time. ZAFT launched a massive amount of neutron jammers onto earth, stopping nuclear fission reactions and causing earth crust to have less activity, so the earth was somewhat colder. Factions inside Orb had some trade with ZAFT to have some neutron jammer cancellers launched into its land, preventing energy crisis within its own land. Orb's government suppressed the truth and claim it is caused by anomaly in canceller density and geothermal energy. Orb's land territory is located not in real world Japan but in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and other SA and SEA countries and some colonies in space. It works as an apprehended society reminiscent of South Africa and co.
      *Here's the important ones:*
      *The laser fusion reactor that the spaceships in this timeline uses cannot be cost effectively ignited without massive energy and 0 gravity environment. PLANT has Dyson matrices that can ignite the reactors in their 0 gravity environment, earth does not. This caused a massive drop in energy production level on earth, and they can only ignite new reactors and build new ships using the outer space they control. Even on the moon igniting a reactor will be pretty expensive energy cost wise. Apart from Orb, most population centers on earth had to rely on reactors on existing spaceships to power them, and this creates an ultra militarized society.*
      *After the initial calculation, the earth joint military hastily formed decided to use the numbers advantage they currently still have to invade PLANT in order to get the access to either the canceller they suspect PLANT already had, or some PLANTS to create fusion reactors since it is logistically very expensive to build your own PLANT. Their calculation was massively off and the battle turned into a stalemate. PLANT still require some mineral resources they get by trading with Orb (that's how Orb can survive as a "neutral" country, by trading smuggled technologies from space to earth and earth resources to space), and the earth alliance has a massive energy deficit, so both sides hates the idea of a prolonged conflict which they currently have and want the war to end as soon as possible, but there was so little to give in because the grievance was so huge.*

    I am now a Gundam oldhead that bullies zoomers into watching Original Mobile Suit Gundam+ Zeta Gundam.

      Well yeah, of course they are normies, it’s a country, not some place with just nerds. Nerds are a lot more looked down upon in Japan as well, called Otaku

    My favorite gundam era. Love the caracters and the MS designs. Story isn't always perfect, but it's better then most. hate the fact that destiny reversed to old updated mono-eye ms designs from uc.

    We're watching an anime romanticization of war written by Japanese artists who were probably born when WW2 ended. Half of the modern masses in Japan don't even know the true story of what Japan did in WW2. And then we get into the modern rise of the Nippon Kaigi movement which is a Right Wing militarization campaign of Japan based on traditional "warrior culture"...... We're here for the cool gundam colours and toy collections.....

    I think Seed is a great show. And I think that simple, emotional people will like it. The more unemotional and logical you are the more flaws you will see. It's a show to be felt, not analysed. It's not meant to be a immensely deep real life drama. It's meant to be a dramatic and romantic sci-fi, feel-good fantasy with giant robots.
