Jody is soooooooo underrated. I've always loved her music and style. Her song "Real Love" in many ways comes off like a sequel to this song. Consider reacting to that one please! :)
Colorfully chaotic, super cute and incessantly catchy. Jody was one of my fav's (Janet) biggest contemporaries in the later 80s, both rockin' that Minneapolis funk pop sound to a tee.
Try Jody's "Don't You Want Me", "Some Kind of Lover', "Everything" and "Still a Thrill" - all huge hits as well as well as "Friends", "Real Love". Jody had an amazing 3 years in the late 80's. She was the "It" girl for me.
Iconic After dancin in soul train, after being a member of the legendary R&B post disco band Shalamar, I was so happy when she met great success in her solo carreer, even in pop chart
Jody was the it girl in the low key eighties. Even when she was with Shalamar, she shined. "Looking for a new love" was her debut solo single and it was huge at that time. It was a great dance song for her. You should check out her video performance of "Still a thrill" if you haven't already. Great video.
Her producer was Andre Cymone who was in Prince's band so that sound was very funky. Also this came out right after Janet made a huge splash so they get compared alot. Jody married Andre so her early albums always sounded funky but she was also very involved in the writing and won a Grammy for best new artist. (I guess they forgot all those years she sang with the band Shalamar.)
@@AceM-Reacts Jody's first couple of albums were very funky and didn't sound like anyone else out at the time. She worked with her husband Andre (He's also the guy in her video for the third hit single "Don't You Want Me") and Bernard Edwards from the Band Chic. While Nile Rogers was shaping Madonna his band mate was helping Jody. By Jody's third album the record label staff had all changed and they weren't really promoting anything but Mary J Blige and Jodeci. Jody still out there singing live and just got a radio gig on Sirius.
Love Ms. Jody. She’s been in the game for a long time and still going!

And Shalamar songs live on, one of the great female singers from Chicago

All on my list! 😎
"Some kind of lover" by Jody Watley is hands down the hottest in my opinion.
Will definitely add it to the list!
Great song! Jody is terribly underrated. I wish her hit streak lasted longer.

It's funny because I do get somewhat of a "Prince" vibe with Jody that's a little more smoothed out and poppier.

How on earth can you not know this song?
I definitely know it now!
Her song pre-dates Terminator 2!
Yes! Jody said it first.
