I love Jody Watley! She was also a dancer on Soul Train and she sang with the group Shalamar.
I think the contrast of two male singers made her voice stand out more in Shalamar.
@@saturnnet1627 Yes I agree!
@@saturnnet1627 I thought Shalamar was all female singers.
@@Deezz1212 Howard Hewitt, Jeffrey Daniels, and Jody Watley are the members of Shalamar.
Shalamar was my group back in the day when Howard Hewitt came on board!
I was 25 or 26 when this came out😍 I love me some Jody Watley. She is still beautiful today and stylish as she was in the 80s.
You guys are killing it with the 80's women today! This is another great one!
It's a miracle !!
Agreed! If they do "Again" by Janet Jackson for the 3rd one, it would be a SUPER amazing "Female Friday"!
Another one during Jodi’s day… Karyn White!
@@bigsteve9279 Oh indeed! Karyn White is an absolute MUST REACT for the next Female Friday! "Super Woman", and "Secret Rendezvous" are fire for starters!!! 🔥🔥
Jody won a Grammy in 1988 for Best New Artist of the Year with this album which spun three top 10 hits on Billboard Hot 100.
Jody watley “don’t you want me” is a must
This song actually made the phrase "Hasta la vista, baby" popular way before Terminator 2. I love this song!! And how she is dressed. I miss the 80's. Excellent choice, Amber!!!
Alright my babies.... I love the ladies of the 80s ‼️ ♥️💯🔥🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
DONT YOU WANT ME , THE BEST JODY WHATLEY SONG
Oh yeah! We all liked Jody back in the day :-))
"Real Love" is another great Jody dance track.
Yaaassss, Jody Watley! One of the best break up songs, ever, along with the GAP Band’s Early in the Morning!
Jody is legendary she started as a Soul Train dancer then joined Shalamar and on to her own big singing career.
Her and Rosie Perez.
my girl can MOVE.
JODY is awesome!
Jodi's so beautiful and talented.
You should make “Real Love” your next Jody Watley song.
Real Love was a banger! Also video director progressed to be a big Film director too.
I came on here to say the same thing. The beat, the fashion...! JW looks and sounds phenomenal in that video.
That video is over 30 years old and does not show its age. At all. Masterpiece visually and musically.
Four #1 hits on the club charts with “Looking For A New Love”, “Don't You Want Me”, “Some Kind of Lover” and “Real Love” and Grammy winner for Best New Artist in 1988.
Edit: Three additional #1 club hits with “Off The Hook”, a 2005 version of “Looking For A New Love” and “I Want Your Love”.
“Don’t you want me” is my favorite by Jody Watley. Definitely would love to see a reaction on that one!
@@Jen-in-Texas Mine too.
Still a Thrill is also a classic by Jody
And her slow jam "Everything".
I had “don’t you want me” on my mix tape 😀
Jody Watley was so great. No one like her.
Jody Watley's "Friends" and "Don't You Want Me"
Jody was all over the air waves in the late 80's, along with Janet, Paula, Madonna, etc. Dance grooves, Pop & Hip Hop all represented. She could do it all and do it elegantly with the most amazing eyes!!! She also help set fashion for young women at the time. Best songs from her are Some Kind of Lover and Don't You Want Me. Other hits include: Real Love, Friends (with Eric B & Rakim), Most of All, Still a Thrill, I Want You, Dance To The Music, and the ballads If I'm Not in Love and Everything.
So glad you got to JW! One of my favorite 80's artists.
FRIENDS by Jody Watley is FIRE!
Jody is hero of mine.
Incredibly talented lady.
Phenomenal dancer and member of Shalamar during its high peak as group.
Soul Train Dancer , member of Shalamar, fashionista , recording diva and best new artist Grammy winner
Back in the day when we ALL loved the same music. It was a good time.
I have not thought about Jody in years. This was her best.
Jody Watley is from Chicago and got her start as a Soul Train Dancer in the early to mid 70's. She then joined Howard Hewitt and Jeffrey Daniel to create the R&B group Shalamar. In the mid 80's Jody and Howard had creative differences so the band split up and Jody went on to have success as a solo artist in the late 80's and throughout the 90's.
Other hits by Jody Watley include:
1. Some Kind Of Lover
2. Don't You Want Me
3. Friends
4. Real Love
5. Precious Love
6. Still A Thrill
7. Everything
8. Most Of All
Jodi Watley 😍
Yeah!! Finally!! I love Jody Watley!! This is a big favorite, but she has others!!
FINALLY!!!! Love her so much! Real Love is another must listen!!
This song made me get up and dance, so many memories associated with this song.
Jody Watley had the looks and that beautiful voice. She has some great songs.
I LOVE me some Jody Watley!!!! LOVE LOVE Watley!!!!
Jody was the Queen of the 80,s with Shalmar @ Solo! ❤️❤️❤️
Love Jody Whatley. I use to play her on my Walkman while I rode my bus to high school. Man that brings back memories. Badass.
Jody Watley the queen of cool and 'Looking for a new love' is just one of the countless great songs she has. I strongly recommend her 90's music.
Jody is definitely a favorite of mine. I highly recommend the following from Ms. Watley: Still A Thrill (!!!!!!!), Real Love, Friends, Don't You Want Me, Everything
I was 16 and my sister was 14 when this song came out! This reminds me of coming home from school and hearing my sister jamming late 80’s songs in her bedroom lol Great memories!!
Finally! I've been waiting for a Jody Watley reaction. My favorite song by her is " Don't You Want Me"
Same here! 🤘
Jody Watley IMHO is a very underappreciated singer from the 80's and early 90's. I have her greatest hits album on CD. Yes, I am older. My personal favorite song of Jody's is " Some Kind Of Lover". That is a jam!
WOW!! ... I don't remember what I made for dinner last monday but I am singin' right along to this like I'm 18 again!!! ... 😊❤
Jody Watley's "Don't You Want Me" Is a Banger
Had forgotten all about Jody Watley. Great singer and love this song. Was big in the clubs back in the day…..”hasta la vista, baby” 😊
This is a special one that you have come into from the late 80’s. Jody’s career started out as a popular Soul Train dancer in the 70’s. Then, Don Cornelius, the host and creator of the show, decided to create his own record label. He decided to create a group with Jody, another popular dancer, Jeffrey Daniel, and a singer called Gary Mumford and created the group Shalamar. The group had a few hiccups after going through two singers in two albums. They got Howard Hewitt as their singer and the group exploded in 1979. Please do Shalamar’s “Second Time Around” or “Real Love” next. Jody left the group in the early 80’s and had an equally successful solo career. Check out her other songs “Still a Thrill” and “Real Love”.
So Proud of her .. from a Soul Train Dancer to being a member of Shalamar which had the hits ... Check Out: "Don't You Want Me" ..." Most Of All" ...."Everything" ... "Friends" .. Her Shalamar Big Hits: "The Second Time Around" ... "A Night to Remember" .... "This Is For The Lover In You"
Other gems from Jody, AKA Best New Artist 1988, are "Don't You Want Me?", "Some Kind Of Lover”, "Everything", and "Real Love". Jody was also in the late 70s/early 80 disco funk band Shalimar, which had hits like "Make That Move" and "A Night To Remember". Jody also recorded a really good, slowed-down cover of Madonna's early hit, "Borderline".
I ❤ Jody Whatley!
Jody Watley solo hits are "Real Love" "Don't you want me" Jay you love falsetto voices you'll hear that with Howard Hewett (Shalamar) "Full of Fire" and more of the fabulous Jody Watley.
Yes ,so glad you're playing this, this is one of the ones I had requested!!! ♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
Fun fact... this where "hasta la vista baby" got it's fame!
Actually she got it from Arnold Schwarzenegger from The Terminator movie in 84, 3 years before this.
@@dalee72 No, he didn't say it in the first one. This came first.
Nope, I'm right. Arnold said it in T2, released in 1991, as a reference to Jody's song released in 1987.
I always wondered about this.
She invented that slang she was so cool her and Janet Pebbles Samantha fox Karyn White Abdul
A later single, "Some Kind of Lover" expressly refers back to this song with the same "yeah, yeah, yeah" in its intro and a line: "I found my new love."
And _that's_ where Arnold Schwarzenegger lifted, _"Hasta la vista, baby"!_
Jody Watley was awesome! Love this song! 🥰
You guys have to remember that there was no Internet in the 80's. It was all about going out. So dancing, or roller skating, or just hanging with friends was so much of our lives. People need to get out more!!!!
Great 80s song.
Jody Watley! ♥
Ahh i love Jody Whatley ! Her music and fashion sense was 🔥❤
Thank you thank you!! Finally ! Y’all just have to give her song “Still A Thrill” a try. Jody started out in the 70s as a regular dancer on Soul Train , then was a member of the group Shalamar with Howard Hewitt and Jeffrey Daniels before going solo.
I was just going to mention "Still A Thrill."
I also love "Friends" and "Everything."
Yes! One of my first concerts was Shalamar in early 80s! Love Soul Train especially in the 70s!
Jody Watley had several hits back in the late 80's. My favorites were:
"Don't You Want Me" & "Some Kind Of Lover".
She also had a few hits with a band called 'Shalamr'...
Another great Jody Watley song: "Real Love" - and don´t miss her ballad "It all begins with you", you HAVE to watch that video.
"Everything" beautiful BALLAD and cool video.
Damn! We tore up the dance floor with this song!
This one and What Have You Done For Me Lately we’re awesome to dance to.
Wayyyy before Rihanna and Beyoncé her dancing was the shit and the big beats were way better in the 80s then now
She was in the group Shalamar before going solo. They had hits such as "A Night To Remember" and "Make That Move".
Don't forget Second Time Around.
Or my favorite Dead Giveaway!
For the lover and you is my favorite
Howard Hewett still tours. He has such a beautiful falsetto. Jay would love him.
Shalamar "Dancing in the Sheets" from Footloose

And beyond -- jodywatley.net/discography/
Jody is amazing. She has so many hits.
That moment when Jay heard “did she turn you out?” Lol Loved the face!!! This song is why Hasta La Vista Baby became so popular around that time and was used in terminator 2 a few years later.
Love, love Jody - check out more of her you guys!! Friends / real love / everything / don’t you want me / most of all and the list just goes on she actually started singing in the 70s and has made albums in the 2000s as well

Man! My dad loved Jody Watley when I was growing up. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard this song in my life. Still a banger.

I saw Jody Watley play with Grace Jones years ago and it was fire
This song was a club favorite! As others have said "Real Love", also a great song, was another one of her very successful hits.
Jody Watley was my favorite back in the day! My favorite song by her is "FRIENDS". It has great rap in it by Rakim.
"Real love" another great one by her!
Jodi's style is classic. She could walk out of that video and fit right in today. She was known for the huge hoop earrings. Beautiful lady, gorgeous voice.
Yes, we love Jody! Give Friends by her with Eric B and Rakim a listen….one of the first singer and rapper collaborations. And it’s also just awesome.
She was amazing at the time. We all had our Busters on...fishnet skirts with bike shorts. It was a whole thing.
I've always LOVED this song!
Aw man.. me and my best friend blasted this from our cars quite a few times back in the day! 😏😉Love the good ole’ 80’s, when I was a teen- 🙂💝💙
