Keanu may not be the greatest actor, but he pulled a little girl named Drew Barrymore from a toxic situation. He saw her in crisis, pulled her away from it, and told her in so many words that she didn't have to live that way. So to me, compassion is Keanu's greatest trait.

Keanu may not be Hollywoid's greatest actor, but he strikes me as a truly compassionate, kind, thoughtful human being, whose good deeds towards others (total strangers) have been well-documented. He seems like one of the more genuine, approachable celebrities, the club to which I don't believe folks would automatically vote Mr. Perry into. I'm glad that Mr. Perry has finally gotten his life together, but to trash a fellow actor in his " tell-all" is truly unnecessary...especially a "good fellow" like Keanu...

Keanu used to be kind of a punchline in Hollywood back in the Bram Stoker Dracula days (unfairly so) and Matthew has pretty much been in a foggy mental state from addiction since then so probably isn't tapped in to how much goodwill and praise Keanu has received over the past few decades.

I was a big fan of Friends and Matthew Perry's Chandler was beyond hilarious. But, I must say, I've been disappointed in some of his distasteful remarks since he's been promoting his new book.
On some topics, he comes off quite arrogant and, frankly, full of himself. On other topics, I would have thought better of him if he kept certain things to himself about other people that had crossed his path in life instead of his classless kiss and tell's.
Also, the Keanu Reeves comment turned my stomach. He deserved the huge backlash he received about that. He should have kept this book to his sobriety struggles and leave it at that.

I've lost complete and total respect for Matthew Perry after hearing about his adulterous one- night stand with Valerie Bertinelli (not that she's any better!). None of us is perfect, but his story is truly "above and beyond the pale". He should've kept that secret to himself and taken it to his grave.
I understand why he wrote the book. I'm a recovering addict. In my opinion it's a way of actually seeing the wreckage of your past on paper. The premise is, once it's on paper you can't hide it. He forgot that is good to admit the wrong you did, but it's not ok when, by your admittance of your wrong's harms someone else. He should've given the other people he wrote about a heads up

I agree. That was a very stupid self centered thing to do. The woman has a son by Eddie. What about him? That's his mother who was being unfaithful to his dad who was sick, now both depending on their level of relationship to each other have to scramble a bit to save face publicly.

Eddie did cheat on Vallerie too,my main point is Perry didnt care about her son, Eddie's legacy and family members when he shared this, he showed no remorse or symphathy for other people and too prove it he took swipes a swipe at Keanu several times. Matthew Perry is very lucky to have gotten the part of Chandler Bing - and to keep the job with all his troubles of addiction throughout the series. This memoir does not paint him in a good light whatsoever, and he’s the one that included all these stories.

They stuck it out a hell of a lot longer than most people manage to. Their love story was still beautiful. Ed had his problems. If she had left him for Matthew, the situation clearly wouldn't have been much better. We do the best we canwith what weve got in this life, and nobody always gets it 100% right.

What is the point of writing a Memoir if you're not going to be HONEST? I am sure that all the people involved know full well what they did or didn't do in the past and have moved on. It never ceases to amaze me how the general public forms opinions about celebrities that are usually wrong, they judge them and make assumptions. They are human beings who make mistakes, say the wrong things and screw up just like everyone else does. I'm sure for Matthew, writing his memoir was both painful and cathartic. It takes great courage to be honest on paper. Even more so when you're famous...
Pfft. Perry just seems to try to elevate himself by making his decades of addiction a mountain he's claiming he climbed, but as someone who spent decades trying to swim out from under the weight of deluded , self grandiosing junkies - this is exactly what he still sounds like
Julia I agree be honest but be realistic and compassionate for others while you are at it. That was wrong and self centered of him to drag people who moved on with their lives and suck them back in with his past dirty deeds with them. Here's why I believe he went the wrong way about this.
Valerie has a son by Eddie. Now that their son is older and he's mature enough of a solid person, how about his feelings towards his mom now? What if he released this when he was a teen? What about her extended family? Society has improved a lot for women's well being but they are still harder on cheating women than the men they cheat with and she's no exception even with a deteriorating marriage.
Now depending on the level of their relationship which we do not know of, this could be a set back for the two of them (Valerie and son). Both might publicly have to scramble to save face for themselves and Eddie's legacy. If you are going to do a confessional do it with compassion for others and admit you had a hand in being a prick if you are the guy. Those other sarcastic jabs in his memoir about Keanu and Phoenix were stupid and conceited as well. Perry was being a conceited spoiled and malicious prick in my opinion.
He should have asked other people involved if it is okay to use it in his book as honorable person who respects other people's own rights to privacy from public acknowledgement first. It is disrespectful and dishonorable to do so without shared agreement on private matters involving two people's private moments to be shared to public. I have loss huge respect towards Matthew Perry. It is not just his own life being exposed in the book but also Valerie who should have say on the matter since it did involved herself too.

He wrote the memoir to help those struggling, also. Of course there will always be cynics though. The "oh there's no way this main could have any genuine emotion for those who are out there in the depths of despair, who see no light at the end of the tunnel". Let's just say I bet his memoir helped alot more people than your comments taking shots.

I used to enjoy Perry's work. Honestly, he looks as cringy now as he apparently is on the inside. Honestly, saying this about Valerie tells me everything I need to know. Intentional hurt to her, while masking it as his "unrequited crush". As to Keanu Reeves, Mr. Perry took an unnecessary "dig", in jest or otherwise, to a seemingly kind man. He tends to equate, in his Hollywood vapidness and shallowness, greatness as a "talent" with being a great human. Neither his friend, River, nor Heath Ledger, were ever described as great humans...they cared about drugs more than their health and future (much like Perry) and we saw the results. Yeah... I'm NOT sure he was as sober as he claimed to be, in his book. He's been slurring his speech & appears to not be taking care of himself. Also, I really am not trying to be mean, but his comments just remind me of things people say when they've had too much to drink. I hope I am wrong, b/c I used to really like his work.❤

I could care less about Valerie hooking up with Matthew Perry--that doesn't bother me, who am I to judge. I was no angel in my 20's or 30's and the 62-year-old me is mortified and genuinely regretful for all the people I hurt. What bothers me is that I thought Valerie was smart, that she wasn't the kind of person to take someone else's word for what is true or false and what is right or wrong. Her recent tweets regarding the democratic candidates have me disappointed in her.

Oh please, life is too short to get embarrassed or be mortified by something someone reveals about you years later. Enjoy the free publicity. Remember, if you don’t want something negative revealed in the future don’t do it in the first place. That’s your only insurance to protect your dignity.
Perry still has some issues. I just watched him on Colbert and it was an awkward interview. Plus Perry just doesn't look healthy. I wish him a continued life of sobriety.
