Thank you for this video! I’m trying to start painting en plein air and get intimidated by how to get the vastness of the scene onto a canvas. I live in SF and am familiar with GGP and Stow Lake. I know the scene and am so glad to see how each of you each handled it. I always get benefit from your videos but this one was a bonus as I saw two approaches to painting a scene I’m already familiar with but wouldn’t know how to start. 😊

Thrilled to witness a fantastic plein air artist like Pete embracing the Box N Paint STORAGE medium!
Absolutely loving Pete's innovative idea of mounting the Box N Paint storage into a handheld palette! 🎨🌟 The use of magnets with super glue on the box and palette or Velcro for a secure fit can help on that. Also, gotta mention, all your videos are fantastic, Michael! Thank you so much for sharing such a great content!

Great painting. I liked your discussion on reflections on the water, emphasizing vertical strokes, transparency of color and soft edges. I now need to get out and practice these. Thank you.

Looks good Michael. You created a colourful interesting painting out of a pretty drab looking scene.
    Nice!

Ive watched almost all your videos and find the way you sketch out your compositions really exciting. I came to know Christ in your state of California at Merced in 1982. Never tried a berito but it looks mouth watering every time you stop by to eat one. Your work really inspires me and I paint in water mixable oils.

    🎉Happy New Year!🎉
I just want to take the time to let you know how much I look forward to your videos every week. It’s about the painting, getting into the thought process with you, but it’s also the continuity it brings to follow along and see how you continue to grow and push forward as a painter. I love your departures from the seascapes. Love and miss the cityscapes. Watching your videos never ceases to inspire. I dropped off Patreon due to some credit card issue that I need to rectify so that I can add that back to my routine. Love CP and I look forward to what the next year will bring.

Fantastic video. Loved the park setting. I was curious if you had plans to do the vlog and artist talk videos that you used to do? They were always great to see the other side of artist life.

The color turned out really nice! Pretty impressive considering the pervasive gray of the scene. The grasses in the foreground look great, too; I'm glad you went with it. So fun!! The best part, though, was the wisdom from you guys: that perfection is boring, and in fact you're never finished as a painting student, but "in the trying, sometimes you create some pretty decent stuff!" Incredibly encouraging because y'all make it look so easy😏 It should be easy to try! It's the pressure we (I) put on ourselves to "get it right" every time that gets in the way.

Good morning Michael. Ah, much more elevated and colorful than the actual scene. Would love to be able to do that. Like you said, takes a lot of painting 👍🏽

Hi Chamberlain, eatched you plien air painting in a number of videos over time, and I think this may be the first time I have commented. Just want to say that I love your art style and your videos are always informative. The scenery in this painting is very tranquil and serene. I like how quickly you laid down the paint work in roughly three to four steps and chased the light with your own interpretation of what you could see before you. Brilliantly executed and many thanks for sharing your skills with us. ❤🖕💯🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧👋

Love to hear your thought process while painting and sketching. You both make something so interesting out of a relatively bland subject matter. And the philosophizing about being a painter is quite helpful and entertaining too! Happy New Year!

    Idyllic shades of green
    Pete and Michael reconvene
Michael zooms in, kind of surgical
    Pete decides to go vertical
Abstract shapes, reflections with soft edges
    Painting without glasses; both successes
    Pa-tre-on - kept it succinct
    Everybody take the link
Both paintings are beautiful! Love the video. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛

I’ve been painting figuratively for years, but with a palette that almost completely avoided green. Ultramarine, yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umbra. And now that I’m trying landscapes and plein air for the first time I REALLY get why green is so challanging. I wanted to paint a distant green field today and it was REALLY hard. I’ve ended up with a yellowish field. Too yellow. Gonna let it dry and try again next layer.
