    I met Tommy at the British Open at Carnoustie and my son who was 4 he got a photo with him. Such a gentleman and Tommy said he loved my son red and blue jumper which made his day. My son is now in the Junior programme at Carnoustie and loves his golf. I put that down to Tommy ⛳👍👍

    I didn’t know that the main brands of clubs were putting so much effort in monitoring the top players game with such great detail and work on suggesting literally tailored adjustments and improvements for each of them. That must indeed be a great bonus for these players.

    For anyone who doesn't know, it doesn't get covered on TV coverage, the brands have trucks in the car park at tournaments on hand to help their players with clubs over a 4 day tournament. I'd love to see Sky Sports Golf or you Rick record the process over the 4 days and indeed week (practice rounds) leading up to a big tournament. Love the videos 💕

    Having that team available is certainly helpful, but let's be honest. The size of the endorsement deal has got to be enormous if you sign for a full bag, especially if you're a top 10 or so in the world.

    • @golfhound
      @golfhound Год назад +13

      I have no irons in my bag except for wedges. I play Driver, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 woods, 7, 8, 9, hybrid, PW, SW, LW, putter. As fairway woods were/are the strongest part of my game and irons the weakest, I got rid of my irons and now play fairway woods and hybrids. Yes, I can chip just fine with the 7-9 hybrid. I use them like a putter. my 3 wedge lofts are 48, 53, 58 degrees - exactly 5 degrees difference per club. I've used this setup ever since 2003. I am perhaps the first mini tour pro ever to use hybrids instead of irons in America (when they were first made 4 hybrid - 9).

It especially erks me when theyre hitting a true players iron and complain about distance and them not being long 😂 its like dude what are you saying? I hit my srixon z785 7 iron 180 and I hit my current 7 iron Cobra MB 160 yards but my gapping with cobras are 10 yards apart instead of 15 yards and I added my 4 iron this time to fill my gapping. Having a "club mechanic" who's constantly checking your speed, lies, angles, etc. is a golfer's wet dream. Curious how often Tommy finds his equipment being tweaked...i.e. how often is the TaylorMade pit crew saying "Tommy, we're gonna change this or that on this club because we think it's gonna make a difference." Be curious to know how often they're changing things up a little bit. Marginal gains are important gains for pro golfers I imagine.

    Do you think there will be a time when a pro might employ their own specialist to manage and monitor their equipment, in the same way they employ a coach to manage and monitor their swing or a psychologist to manage the mental side of their game, or have the manufacturers cornered this aspect of the market? I.e. are all the equipment specialists already employed by the manufacturers.

    • @timkinley1779
      @timkinley1779 2 года назад

      I would think it is a selling point to the pros. "If you sign with us, this service is provided." I know two high level college players who were offered similar 'specialist/analyst' positions by a manufacturer. As usual, the benefits were excellent but pay was crap. However, it looks good on a resume.

      Sounds like there could be a new career opportunity for aspiring players who don't make it to the pros. Serve a number of pros with analytics so they don't have to commit to one brand. Like Rick said, it's very unlikely one brand will be able to provide the right clubs to suit a pro across the whole bag
